Dude you give me so much inspiration as a drummer it's crazy. Like i used to think it was impossible to drum breakcore and now I'm beginning to transfer fast tempo swing into break beats and I thought it sounded bad till I thought to drum to breakcore. Thank you.
Hell yeah. I consider breakcore to be sped-up funk, considering the Amen Break / other breaks are based off funk beats, but funk and jazz are pretty similar, so that makes sense! It's easier than people think.

It's been kind of a bummer being unable to record / upload videos for so long (one of my macbooks has a broken screen, and the other has water damage, so I'd have to lug a TV to my practice space just to make a video right now). But I'm glad at least a few people have dug what I've done so far (even if it's largely thanks to the material I'm covering).

Good drum heads make a world of difference (this kit is like a ~$1,500 set of Yamaha Birch Custom Absolutes, but I did my Newlove cover on a student-level Sound Percussion kit that I got used for *$45* - and thanks to the Evans EC2s I use on both kits, I get a shockingly decent sound out of the cheap kit; I literally spent more on nice heads for the cheaper kit than I did on the kit itself). It's also probably going to be worth it to get a nice snare separately from the drums (at least long-term, for now just get what you can afford - but I bought all the snare drums I use in these vids separately). And if you go electronic, my faves are Roland, but you can get comparable Alesis kits for much lower prices (either way, though, try to get a kit with the mesh heads, not the rubber ones).

Hahaha I know exactly what you mean. I was definitely that loud drummer kid. I didn't end up getting electronic drums until I started getting a habit of playing in the wee hours of the morning... BUT real quick, lemme clarify - you only need mesh heads if you get *electronic* drums (as opposed to the shittier, rubber electronic drums - which are still okay in a pinch). If you're getting acoustic drums, just get normal heads (but get good ones - again, I use Evans EC2s on my toms, Evans EMAD 2 on my kick, and I think Evans Power Center on my snare...? but pretty much any Evans, Remo, or Aquarian heads will do wonders). I don't even think they make mesh heads for acoustic drums, but I figured I'd be clear just in case.
