      @@theraggededgeonboardfastes8461 This is late, but yes, he did mostly outqualify his teammate most of the time. During the BMW Sauber time, Nick Heidfield was also a underrated driver, also very quick, they were mostly equal. During 2008 and onwards Kubica was better, and in 2010 he destroyed Petrov in the Renault.

      The current Pirelli tyres are the way they are because Ecclestone asked Pirelli to make them that way... he wanted a tyre that 'couldn't last long to provide more excitement', Pirelli already stated that they can make a tyre that could last an entire race... but, if the tyres wear fast, change them...

      also Hamilton was good at McLaren but nothing special in 2008, he won because Massa and Ferrari fucked up way too much and because of Massa's engine failure in Hungary

    • @aratongor
      @aratongor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aggerktm But you have to admit that only World-Champions could beat lewis in the same car: Button, Alonso, Rosberg - and now Russell is the closest none-champion. So Kovalainen wasn't that bad. It's always that way that the second driver has disadventages because the car is mainly built for Driver One. You can see it on Verstappen / Perez too, even Schumacher and barrichello before 2007 ...

    • @julianz7450
      @julianz7450 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah but with the 2012 or actually 2009 cars onwards, it was pretty much impossible to overtake without the damn drs. Nowadays it's ridiculously bad -> cars are too heavy, to wide and generate too much of a disturbance in their wake, even with the ground effect rules in place today. Shame and for me the 2004 till 2008 season was the golden era of modern f1 -> phenomenally engineered machines that were light, compact, nimble and made for some fantastic racing action, where the driver with the biggest balls and best feel for the car reigned victorious. These cars were getting pushed all the way throughout the entire race distance, whereas today the drivers very rarely push the cars anywhere near their limits in the race, because of how fragile the tyres are. I actually switched to watching WEC - way better racing action honestly.

    Can someone explain why Heikki was good at Renault and bad at McLaren?

    • @JT-ko2ib
      @JT-ko2ib 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because Hamilton is better than Fisichella, hence making Kovalainen look worse.

    • @JT-ko2ib
      @JT-ko2ib 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @GT012345tube Kovalainen did lose points in Japan, Belgium, Spain, I believe, with mechanical problems in '08. He had another result or two gone through bad luck which could have pumped him up a couple of places in the standings.
      In the 2009 season, McLaren started incredibly badly, but their problems had relatively simple fixes - at least in F1 terms - because they came from back of the grid to win a couple with Hamilton by season's end. Being the quicker driver, Hamilton got priority updates, one in time for Hungary, which coincided with his first win.
      Whitmarsh took over from Dennis around '09, and being fond of Button, didn't want Kovalainen anymore.
      In summary, Kovalainen was a bit unlucky, but his speed was never matched with any consistency, which is why Button was brought in as a replacement.

      @@marcing2505 He's right, though. Kubica was probably running light on fuel and that's why he got past, because he had a much faster car beneath him. Not just at that specific time, but in general - the BMW was much faster than the Renault both on the straights because it had a better engine (no surprises there, the Renault was one of the most fuel-efficient) but the chassis and aerodynamics were also much better.
      It's a miracle Heikki finished ahead.

      You are kidding. F1 is boring now. Just close the 1 second gap and you can overtake. Boring. In 2007 it was way better racing. Way better Championchip. Much closer. Much more competitive, much better sounding, much more battles on 1st place. Today you know already the winner: Verstappen. Last Year: Verstappen. Last 10 Years: Hamilton. 2000 to 2010 were the best years.
