    This year, I have fell in love with the Hobonichi cousin planner, but struggled to find a way to use it to its fullest potential. Just as I was going to give up, something clicked in my mind so I decided to try it out this week. It has been one of the most productive week this year, and I can really sense a change in the way I think of time. I have also decided to memory keep in a brand new Hobonichi cousin and that has been so much fun also because I just really gravitate towards this notebook.
    I wanted to share with you how I have set up my Hobonichi cousin for both functional planning and also memory keeping and hopefully it can give you an idea or two if you are like me and also struggled with this planner.
    Floral post it note and washi tapes are from my shop linked below.

    Thanks! I love how you focused just on business - and it helps me see some ideas how to use this more without focusing so much on the decoration (which is awesome and cute - but too cluttered for my brain and make some lose track!) I love some of your ideas.

      Sterling Ink I have an EC life planner for my weekly overview, a Happy Planner setup for grad school & Reading Journaling. My goals are currently managed in the Cultivate Power Sheets, which is great tool. Your video caught my attention because I purchased the PP Weeks in 2019 and still haven't used it. I think after watching this video, I can utilize it for tracking my time and important events to help me better manage and track my time each day and see where I'm wasting time, since I have so much going on and so many goals lol.

    Hi Catherine! Great video :) I am curious with your purple things though -- maybe I missed it, but you said that your weekly is for your things that you have done during the day. Does the purple dot mean that you had started to do those things but somehow ended up not finishing it?

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi I love your question as it’s making me re-examine my system haha. It’s definitely a work in progress. What I meant was I write out my schedule with tasks that I would like to complete. Then as the hours go by I would highlight the hour mark with colors based on what I actually did. Usually I do go by the schedule so it’s just a confirmation that I worked on a certain thing in a certain category (I have two businesses where I put most of time in so I wanted to track how much time I spend on each at a glance) the purple one is just for me to highlight the tasks I didn’t complete due to procrastination lol. What I found during that first week was there was a specific task I kept on pushing back and pushing back due to procrastination lol. I also was able to see that there are certain times of the day that I am more likely to procrastinate so now I try to schedule something fun but productive during that time period. Hope that makes sense

  • @softlion3516
    @softlion3516 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    this inspired me to buy the cousin! i was wondering if you could possibly make a video for your weekly planning system explaining the colour code system, or if you could explain it

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I will be doing some plan with me videos in the future. Basically I divide my life into different areas and assign a color to each. I don’t always color code it. It’s just for me to see how much time spend on what and see if I need to readjust anything if it seems like I am wasting too much time doing something not so important.

      @softlion3516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahhh I am so jealous that you get to use it for school. I think it’s perfect for that. You can use a color per class, then for the daily pages you can either take notes if you write small or just summarize the stuff you learned that day maybe?

    I have been going back and forth for a month about whether to memory keep in a stalogy or hobonichi cousin! I went with the stalogy so I could skip days or use more pages if needed, but now I’m second guessing 🤔
    Also I recently tried to print some photos on my Epson printer for memory journaling and they came out terrible. What printer would you recommend?
    Thank you!

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi I have also done memory keeping in an a5 stalogy which is also nice, but not having the dates made it more ok to skip the days haha so I quickly fell behind. I am liking the structure that the hobonichi cousin has set out for me so I am just filling in the blanks. I am using a Canon pixma printer, I think any photo quality printer would work and just remember to save a setting for photo printing so that you can select that option when you are printing photos. Have fun!

    You gave me a great idea- why not combine the planning and memory keeping into one notebook? The weekly can be the planner and the daily can be memory keeping. xoxo

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know lol I wish I could do that. But I don’t really like mixing my messy planner with memory keeping lollll. It gives me extra pressure to make the planner portion really neat and presentable for the future whoever is looking at my book, even if it’s just me haha 😂. Is that silly?

      @@ssd1453 No. I'm using a junior size disc planner with a dashboard weekly spread. I made my own half page daily inserts. It's a bit of a hack, but I like planning my day with the week in mind, and this lets me see both.
      At the end of the week, I add thumbnails from highlights for the week.

    What is reference material in your binder? I haven't heard the term before with planning.

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh it’s just things I need to reference long term. It has a section for my business (ein number, expenses, product ideas, vendor info, etc) and personal sections (my son, family, home, finance, etc) I don’t like to keep that information in my bound notebooks/planners plus this gives me an excuse to use ring binder.

    I have been searching for the best method, for me, of keeping track of my life. I think Hobonichi is the way I want to go. However, I am afraid, since it is so popular, that come September 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the new 2021's will sell out so fast that it will be hard to acquire one. I want to get a cover for the Hobo.. but I don't like using leather. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to jump into the Hobonichi waters and be successful about it?

    • @SterlingInk
      @SterlingInk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered my hobonichi planners in November December and also in January. I ordered through jetpens and also Etsy. I think you should be fine and they restock I believe. I bought my second hobonichi cousin just recently in July too from the us amazon. I think there are a lot of cover options for hobonichi that’s not leather from hobonichi website.
