Superb video.
I flew into Dryden a few years ago for work. You ended up in the area where they park and hangar the firefighting aircraft if I recall correctly. It's a neat flight, one I am going to do myself.
Interesting! So the north apron is actually where I should have been. Also, do you know anything about it’s navigational aid history? Any chance they used to have another ILS?
@@PeterMatthess I don't know about the ILS. That was my first and only time in there. The airport is deceiving as the FBO is dwarfed by the aerial firefighting buildings.
@@interestingstorey interesting to know thanks. I can’t imagine anyone will ever have a proper payware scenery of such a local airport for MSFS but I’ll have a look again on flightsim.to
Hey, that's my hometown! The new CYWG addon is perfect, it's be really nice to finally be able to fly in and out of home. Great video Peter!
Nice! I have relatives in Winnipeg. I definitely enjoy the weather challenge up there, and Dryden having very little options for an RNAV aircraft, do you know anything about how the F28s used to get in and out of there in bad weather if there was only ever one ILS?
@@PeterMatthess As far as I'm able to remember from chatting to pilot friends old and new, smaller airports like Dryden, Kenora or Brandon would close during bad weather if they weren't able to offer ILS/RNAV for the runways the winds were favorable for. Airports that size around here hardly ever encounter anything beyond GA aircraft so any scheduled service would always divert to Winnipeg during extreme weather.
@@PeterMatthess As far as aircraft are concerned I've never met anyone who used to fly F28s up here but nowadays regional traffic in Winnipeg is the increasingly rare Avro RJ, lots of Metro III's, Dash-8s and ATR's.
@@Wingman_ yea sounds about right, thanks for the info!
@@PeterMatthess Any time Peter! I love your content 👍
