  • We all know how popular the current JB74 Suzuki Jimny has been since its release back in 2019. And while the 2021 Jimny is a fun and capable 4X4, it’s not exactly a large vehicle.
    Here we endeavour to see how much camping gear you can actually fit in a JB74 Jimny. We head for the hills of Lithgow to find out.

    It always makes me laugh when people say the Jimny is too small for real touring when more people overland around the world on motorbikes than they do in 4wd's. I Just completed a 4 week - 11,000km+ trip around northern Australia in my Suzuki with 2 people on board and had no issues with payload whatsoever.

    I have learnt with my Jimny to pack smart… do I need a fridge sitting by a cold river? No… a pair of old socks on a string line can cool at least a 6 pack sitting in that stream, it’s colder than any fridge :)…. I made a set of legs for my mini maxtrax,… that’s my camping table as the mini tracks have a flat base… etc

    Owned a 2008 jimny, it was small underpowered but fun, then I bought an R51 pathfinder, much bigger more power more comfort more room, if jimny came out with a vehicle able to sit at 2/2500 doing 110 on freeway and have 31/33 inch tyres I think it would be a lot better, it’s not a jeep or a bronco, but I think 1.8 petrol or absolute minimum vitara 1.6T (especially if the 5 door comes out) would be a better option. Would love to buy one, I have 2019 Ford ranger tray back, bull bar and 33’s it’s big! A little too big for Sydney.

That bloke and the fridge would probably be half the weight the car is insured to carry

    • @FourLowAdventures
      @FourLowAdventures 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We opted against a bull bar for this reason and installed a winch plate + 4500lbs winch instead (it's more than enough). 340kg is not a lot but easily manageable with 2 people. Many people travel the world on motorbikes with 40-50kg of gear, it depends how much you are willing to sacrifice. We actually enjoy the simplicity of it and using our surroundings as much as possible (i.e. water, firewood, trees to hang a tarp etc) and regular stops for supplies (socialising). Will add that we also have a campervan and understand the qualities of both types of travel. Last year we traveled up to Noosa sleeping in the Jimny with just a mattress, cooler bag and trangia stove. Was a good time.

    This littel Jimny costs 40 pus grand in Australia. You are better off spending 35k on a used 4x4 with less than 150k on it. This tiny 4x4 is too expensive for its size and limited capability off road !!!! You can get a Hi Lux or a Ranger for less than 35k that has less than 150k on its Odometer, and get teh mex off road capability of an ideal 4x4 vehicle. so why spend 4-45k on a tiny 4wd that cant even tow a small boat or caravan, and go extreme off road where the Big trucks go???? The price you pay for this tiny Jimny is better off being spent on a Big 4x4 that can go to extreme places where this tiny Jimy obviously cannot, and not to mention, tow a caravan , boat or camper trailer when touring, overlanding or camping.

    1. It's not wonderful if other road users think you have your high beams on. It's frustrating for other people and dangerous.
    2. A quick 5 second look on Carsales tells me that the car you're testing here would now set you back a mere $46,000. That's a rediculous price for such a limited use vehicle.
    3. A 6 to 12 month wait time on purchasing a new vehicle is not a good sign, or a sign that the car must be in high demand. No. It's a sign of the global semiconductor shortage is causing big issues in vehicle manufacturing.

    Bit of a miss not to mention the 3 star safety rating achieved in 2019. 73% occupant safety rating along with other on road limitations should certainly be a sobering thought for those thinking of using it as a daily.
