  • We parked our car at the river bank and biked towards the foot of Mt. Bagang to get a guide from the community of katutubos living there. We left our bikes with the other katutubos and with George and Tony as our guide, we hiked up the summit of Mt. Bagang. The powdery white dirt and steepness of the slope made it hard to climb and descend the mountain. Halfway to the summit, we were surprised to see an old lady working a patch of land on the slopes of the mountain. Our katutubo guides told us that she is their grandmother and she comes up here every day to cook lunch for them so they don’t have to go down the mountain just to eat lunch. Near the summit, it was mostly grassland. Standing on top of the big boulders on the summit, we can see the Sto. Tomas river and the surrounding mountains of Santa Fe and Lake Mapanuepe in Aglao. Going up was tiring but going down was more challenging. We went back to the katutubo community to get our bikes and chatted with the katutubos before we left. The katutubos here have names in their native language and also American names but they prefer to use their American names because it’s easier for outsiders to pronounce and remember. On the way back to the bridge, we biked around the plateau before finally crossing the bridge and going back to our car.
Thanks to Sir Bullet for joining me on this adventure.
