Willys Jeep Fender Notch and Custom Seat Brackets! Part 1

  • Willys Jeep fender notch and custom seat brackets part 1! A huge problem with an old Willys Jeep is the small space between the driver seat and steering wheel. In this video I modify the CJ3B by notching the inner fender to allow me to move the seat back 4 inches from its stock position. This is an excellent upgrade to open up more space in your old Willys Jeep! This modification should work in all CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ3B, and early CJ5!

    I've read about these mods forever, but you're showing us the hands on part. Great video. Nicely edited and very useful content. I'm 6'4" and have always loved the early Willys Jeeps, but knew I'd never fit. This has given me hope.

    Watching your jeep vids brings back fond memories of my childhood. Dad always kept an ole willys jeep around to go to the river on weekends and us kids would hang onto that ole jeep for dear life as we went thru the mud holes and rocks getting to the river.

    My Dad did this notch to his CJ2a in the 1960s for leg room. I was thrilled to see you do this to this 3b. My last Jeep was a CJ6 so all I had to do is modify the seat frame.

    I bought an old CJ5 from my friend - a project for sure. What almost stopped me was the seat position. It's super tight, and I am a big guy. So I am glad I found this! I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the build and seeing what other stuff I can 'steal'. I am even thinking of documenting my start-to-finish (does it ever really finish?) and putting it on a channel. This will probably start as a revival, since it's been sitting for nearly 15 years, but I'll also make it personalized. New sub here!

    Think about moving the entry flare back about 9 inches so folks don't have to raise their butts over to get into the seats. I am not sure where you put the gas tank, That was always a seat issue.
    What did you get the tilt steering out of?

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha that hump is always in the way. I put a cj5 gas tank under the bed. It’s a universal gm style column I bought new. I’ve got videos on the tank and the steering column!

    I thought I remembered you saying somewhere in another post that you could have cut less than 4 inches out for the notch? What's the least you could have taken out for it to still work? Thanks

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      2 inches would have been a better place to start, it’s easier to cut more than add back. The farther you go back the more you get into your tire clearance too. Thanks!

    Looks great. Was thinking of doing the same mod to my 47 2A. Can you show how much clearance you lost inside the wheel well. Will the tire touch anything when spring is fully compressed(full stuff). Great vids.

    • @SevenBarSalvage
      @SevenBarSalvage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah there’s plenty of clearance. There’s space I could add a little more and I’ve also got to make add my bump stops.
