I use the same technique when building prototypes with Arduino. I'm routing the wires from the back of the motherboard - it looks nicer. I use SMD elements
Great design. How do you rate the quality of emulation? Are there any problems with image and sound emulation, such as: framerate or cutouts in the sound? Have you tried checking the percentage of RAM and CPU usage of the Raspberry Pico system? Do Raspberry Pico generate a lot of heat during NES emulation?
Excellent question. I've only had a few issues with Games not loading, but 99% are working fine. Sound and emulation is crisp, but I haven't checked fps, or ram etc... plus little to no heat comes off the board. Keeping the design open, helps with any heating issues.
I wonder if it will run better with the new rpi pico that uses the rp2350 Or if we can get other systems and how high it can go. With the header you could just pop out the 2040 pico and pop in a 2350 if they ever update pico nes to support new hardware features The new board uses the same form Factor and pin layout I am pretty sure so it should be possible. Also wonder if there are any better STL's for case that actually looks like a NES that were designed with this project in mind.
It would be so cool of ot could run even SNES. I'm definitely keeping an eye on it and planning on a few 2350 builds. As for the STL, I couldn't find one, and design isn't my thing haha. But keeping an eye out.
Hi! I don't have the STL, I'm afraid. I'm not much of a cad designer, haha. The only schematic i have is featured throughout the video, but all the info is over on their github
Great question, and should have covered it more. The audio is emulated flawlessly. I've had little to no issues so far, but I haven't tested every game haha. Thanks for watching!
You can certainly use an usb controller. But must be a DualShock 4 or DualSense controller. Additionally, you need an OTG-Y cable so you can connect the controller and power.
@@DReviewTing amigo digo que si se puede jugar con un mando que sea trucho no de ps4 o ps5 ??? y si en vez de adaptarle el mando de snes se podria insertar en esos pin un usb hembra???
I had a similar issue with a 16gb sd card, but used a 4gb instead. This sorted it for me. Other than that, I'd check the wiring. Let me know how it goes.
That project is a menace to 3rd. World countries like Argentina. We don't have NES or SNES controllers, all we got here in the 90's was Chinese NES clones with DB9 gamepads. That HDMI board is completely RARE and expensive here.
The HDMI board is just a breakout board, you could replace it with some female connectors that come with a solderable PCB, they are available just for a few dollars. Alternatively just use one of those "hdmi to utp" extenders, desolder the rj45 jack and solder your own wires
The latest release now supports two NES controller ports for two player games.
That's amazing! Thank you so much, this project has been amazing.
Awesome mod man! This looked like a lot of fun to put together
It was great fun and relatively quick to out together. I'm just glad it worked haha!
Great video and also music! F-Zero - Big Blue!
Thank you! I truly appreciate it! And yes, Big Blue! What a tune!!!
Thanks for watching!
Really don't know how you do it, Graeme. I just can't wrap my head around things like this, but you always manage to impress me! 🤯
I appreciate that, my man! I'm just glad there are smarter people out there who can figure all this out for me haha!
I use the same technique when building prototypes with Arduino. I'm routing the wires from the back of the motherboard - it looks nicer. I use SMD elements
That's so cool. I'm not quite there yet, but will use SMD resistors next time 👍🏻

Looks really good
Thank you! Do you think you'll give it a go?
@@DReviewTing I might, It would be cool to put it in a NES case and have 2 controllers.
Great video!
Thank you! 😄
Looks good to me, wish it could boot straight to a rom though.
Can we get vga output instead of hdmi
Very good project. Thank for sharing.
Awesome video!! Is there a way to make it with two controller ports? 🐺🐺😁😁
Thank you! 😄 I can't find anything to add a second controller, but wondering if an NES mutlitap would work?
Nice Project, what about a second player Port? The same wiring than the first Port?
Thanks 😊 I'm going to look in to a player 2 poet the next time I do the build. I'm wondering if a NES multitap would work.
hi do you have ths schematics for your build?and where we can find stl for the 3d printed case? thanks a lot!

Next level, read real cartridges!
That would be sick! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Thank you for tutorial.
No problem! I hope it all worked out for you! 😃
I wonder if theres a way to get it to read games from flash chips instead of micro sd. could make mini cartridges for it
That's an insanely cool idea!!!
Hey nice project. Tell me what is a size of Circuit Board ?? You dont say that :) ty
Hey! Do you mean thr breadboard I built it on?? It's a 60x80mm board, but can be built on any that have the space 😀
Does it output audio as well or just video?
It outputs both video and audio very clearly.
Does this output sound as well?
Great question, and should have covered it more. The audio is emulated flawlessly. I've had little to no issues so far, but I haven't tested every game haha.

this is like retroarch or MISTER FPGA?
I would say it's more like an FPGA core than retroarch, but it's very much it's own thing.
Any way to connect a USB port/controller?
Not that I can think of just now. But it's definitely worth going to the github page.

Is someone planning a gerber file so we can order a board from PCB Way?
From what I remember, there is a gerber file available, that also includes a SNES controller port. I'm sure it's on the github page somewhere
Just curious, can you say "purple burglar alarm
Yes 😉🤣
hola se puede conectar mandos con usb o podrias conectar un mando usb normal
Yes. Check pinned comment 👍🏻

those are resistors, not fuses...

@@Gzalo That was a good one! Maybe with that HDMI extender it gets more reliable.
Cuál es el chiste mejor pongo emulador en el PC, otra cosa es si le pones pi pico dentro de la misma consola Nes eso sí sería algo genial
Sí 👍🏻
Hmmm yea. A nes will work for 30years but in your pie the SD card will corrupt the moment you'll sneeze on it.
🤣 if I sneeze, I usually cover my mouth. But even then, sd cards are cheap to replace 😉 I'm more worried about the controller port.
@@DReviewTing lol,i made mine on a pi4 and a nvme ssd pcie3. a bit overkill but it still works after a year of constant use.
No thanks, would rather make a clone console, no emulation
Definitely a possibility 👍🏻
