I was blessed with the opportunity of seeing WA 3 times during the 70's; twice with Ted Turner, once with Laurie Wisefield. Breathtaking each time. This was the kind of band that used to be featured on FM radio, not the "classic rock" pap that we've been subjected to for the last 30 years. Mentioning Steve Upton, he played a very basic kit and the only virtually the only part of his body that actually flexed was his elbows. Fabulous drummer. Fabulous band. Thanks for featuring this.
Wishbone Ash played 28 shows during the first quarter of 1971, including five straight nights of Northern dates in late January with Mott the Hoople and Red Dirt. On February 25, they made their US debut at the Municipal Auditorium in Austin, Texas, with The Guess Who. Wishbone did a two-night stand (March 19-20) at Detroit’s Eastown Theatre with Mountain and played three nights (April 8-10) at NYC’s Filmore East supporting Elton John.
This must be about the time Martin went out and bought the 1972 Flying V. He must have got lucky with that because that was when guitar materials were layed to rest for seasoning but after that date to be no more. So when your ear hears the combined nite of the two guitars playi g together it does not simply add them _it multiplies them_ including all the harmonics of each note all the cross products...so to hear WA is to be ear bashed In a big way.
"Hard as Nails" hmmm the stuff i listen to must be hard as diamonds. This is bubble gum music compared to the hard stuff. Pleasant but certainly not hard.

I love the mantra intro. Wishbone had a lot of jazz elements in their early work such as this.
Great in depth analysis, man!
England,home of music.
That. Is absurd. Blues and jazz music came from America.
along with belew era king crimson, wishbone ash is one of the best twin guitar bands in my opinion
Thin Lizzy was pretty good too! 74-83 twin guitars.

7 beats to the measure by the way
