The story behind the composing of this is fascinating. Handel fasted and stayed awake during the 21 days it took him to compose the entire thing, had a vision of God on His throne while composing this portion.

I grew singing this in high school. I simply love it! When I regained consciousness after a major medical. My son was playing this at my medside to prove to"medical professionals that's I was responsive and lucid. They wanted to give up on me. But hmy son knew what to do to interest me to wake up. Hallelujah!!

Handel must have been inspired by God when he wrote Messiah. Because when you listen to it, all of the songs, especially this Hallelujah Chorus, just feel like the kind of songs the hosts of heaven would sing when they raise their voices to praise their Lord and Redeemer.

I sang this with about 1500 other high school students in Germany, in 1974. Every school in the country sent one student to a massive festival, and I was honored to be part of it, as the representative from the US Air Force headquarters high school from Wiesbaden. First and only time in my life I have broken a sweat singing my guts out.

In a 65 person Church Choir, my first such experience, we were blessed to learn this from our Pastoral Minister, JM ..he put us through the paces for 4 months to sing this at Christmas Eve Mass 2018. I had never been aware of this song. After the Choir sang this, ( I was in as a Bass 1 ) for our congregation, I, we, many seniors, kindda fell back on the bench seats in the Choir Loft, just winded and near tears that we pulled it off. The Choir Pastoral Minister bid us to stand, from below in the Church, 300 fellow parishioners applauded. I looked at my feet in humility. We had put in 4 hrs a week for 4 months, I could feel Heaven and the smile of Jesus and my deceased family.
Now, if I listen to Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing this, I cry.
    God prevailed.
    Covid flees,
Maybe soon we sing in Choir again.

When I was in pre-med at the University of Utah, I also had a job at a hotel across from Temple Square…which has the “Tab” choir. Thursday mornings were full practice. So I would sit and listen….”Ordinary looking” folks would walk in, chatting and laughing. Then with one voice and the powerful pipe organ, music and voices would join as one. The Tabernacle built 150 years ago with perfect acoustics. If you ever go West, go to Temple Square, learn about the journey with handcarts through the plains and mountains, architecture of the city. Salt Lake City is a beautiful city.

The last time I sang this, was in an LDS service Christmas program. Though as difficult a song as it is, once you belt out the song, you can't help but get choked up with tender tears for the love of God, and the "Christkind". It's the close "and he shall reign forever, and ever... HALLELUJAH!" that gets me to break down.

I sang this in High School, every year for 3 years. My high school had 12,000 students (larger than some universities), and 4 choruses, 2 orchestras, and one band. The auditorium was called The Chapel and had stained glass windows, because it had once been part of a Dutch Reformed Church, built in the 1600's, across from the school. Our Christmas concerts were glorious. All the choruses surrounded the listeners, (1 on stage, and 3 in the balconies) and while they each had their own Christmas music to sing....this song, was sung by all. It filled the chapel with such glory...and was so moving, those memories still make me tear up with joy, 60 years later.

Caryl here. When I was in high school, I was in the chorus. This was standard fare in the choral programs as was God of our Fathers. I still know my parts..........I sang alto. I'm 74 now and I can't sing anything anymore. Great memories though of a less complicated time. God Bless us all.

The lyrics are, in fact, taken from the 15th chapter of Revelation, if I'm not mistaken..

Lars Smith Nope. You're thinking of "For unto Us a Child Is Born." That's a different piece from Handel's "Messiah." The lyrics to the "Hallelujah Chorus" aer taken from Revelation 11:15, Revelation 19:6, and Revelation 19:16. So I was crediting the wrong chapter, but the right book.

My apologies. I was mistaken. It is from Revelations. I was thinking of For Unto Us A Child Is Born.

Shortly after I became baptized into the Mormon faith, I had one amazing vision of heaven and my life with Jesus with all my past, present and future family members. At the time I had small children and in the dream my children were grown adults. They are now grown so my dream was correct in regards to their appearance because they are as I saw them in my amazing vision. A great gathering of my ancestors, present and future family members to perform singing for the Lord Our Savior Jesus Christ. I was to lead off with my song for the Lord and as we were waiting for the Lord to arrive, the Angels were singing this very song in harmonics I had never experienced before. It was as if every cell of my being was being energized with the sound of it. I have never shared this publically before until now. The world has become a crazy wicked place, more so than before and it is a sign of the end of times. I fear not because the Lord Our God has given us promise to fear not and trust in the Lord. I hope others that have not found the Lord in their way can at least make an honest attempt to discover the love Christ has for all of us. The world to come will be without hate, war, uncertainty, disease, fear, sexual perverseness, and death. Only through Jesus Christ can we pass into Heaven. Lose your arrogance and think like a child again in order to allow the truth to sink in that there is a Heavenly God and we are His children that He loves and misses us.

@@luizantoniokesselring6831 What makes you think you can know anything of heaven? Many have heard heavenly choirs singing. What do we know? Don't lose your faith in God because of ignorance of His reality. Man's is the failure of intellect, not our Creator.
