Excellent. My husband was an army musician and people don’t realise the amount of work and practice that goes into precision marching especially with changes in tempo. This was excellent.
It wasn’t the soldiers folks were upset about hun, it was the promised caption of” dance to thriller” they made the boo- boo not those awesome lads. I’m a military brat, married a marine. They were great, perfect, spot on, bad caption.
They were spectacular. I wonder how many hours of practice they have in order to be so flawless in their movements. The music was also great. Loved this performance a lot. Good job everyone!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

They practice about 8-12 hours daily all in all, incl strength, discipline, attitude, uniform ironing & shoeshine. They are all 18-19 y old conscripts, meaning they change the whole band and drill guard every year in October. Very hard & tough first serve - a great honor to be chosen to kp3 of The Norwegian Kings Guard.

This looks a lot like the field shows that I was a part of in my high school marching band, only we faced forward at all times, which is really difficult when you're doing pass throughs going backwards and diagonally while practically running, playing your instrument and keeping your upper body as motionless as possible. These guys did a beautiful job. If I'm ever able to visit my ancestral land of Norway, then I'd love to see these men during their maneuvers. Much love and respect for all those who serve.

Though I now live far from Norway, this brings me back to my childhood when I often walked or ran across this large area in front of the Kings Palace in “Slottsparken,” the King’s Park.
My dad was born in Bergen, Norway. He came to America, because he became very ill. Norway didn't have the knowledge to get him well, so they sent them to America. This gave me the chills & their percision was perfect.
Order, discipline, physical coordination, and musical talent are all hallmarks of European-style marching bands. A tradition which reflects what it takes to form a successful military force, but set to music. The original purpose behind this type of training/performance was to supplement and perfect military accuracy and precision.
The titling of this video doesn't do it justice. These aren't just some rank-and-file Norwegian soldiers. This is the highly trained Norwegian Royal Guard - world famous, and fierce fighters too. And they of course aren't "dancing", this is precision military drill, that takes hundreds of hours to perfect. They are frequently invited to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I streets in Washington D.C., where they compete and march alongside the U.S. Marine Corps silent drill team.

It was my privilege to train with the Norwegains as part of an exchange program in 1980, which included contact with the Konigs Gaard !! They are fine soldiers and very tough.

Try playing an instrument or handling a rifle while marching in perfect time in exactly the right spot every time. A lot of people can’t even chew gum and walk a straight line at the same time 😁 My brother used to be in a marching band so I know how much goes into a performance like this
In school I was part of our school band as a majorette so i'm a little familiar with what it takes to march so precisely and change formation all while playing an instrument and handling rifles. Kudos to all these young people and superiors!
A few days ago while visiting Oslo I followed them up Karl Johan's gate to the Palace for the Changing of the Guard. They move fast. I had a hard time catching up with them. Great show.
Its incredible how peaceful and democratic that country is. I walked up to the palace, found a side entrance to the gardens which was open, walked in a few steps and saw the garden. No guards, no tresspasing sign, no hassle.

Each year a new band of recruits is formed. These guys have all played in school bands, but have only worked together for weeks before travelling around the world performing... Same with the "rifles".
This is a show of discipline, an example of what you can do with recruits in under a year (obligatory military service). The rest of the Royal guard (HMKG) companies that you see in the background have guard duty in addition to normal field training with specializations into reconnaissance, escort, mechanized infantry, Urban Warfare/MOUT, mobile command station and comms/logistic. They are very much an active military unit, for example during the terrorist attack in Oslo of 2011, HMKG set up Machine gun-positions overlooking the same area that you see in the video.

Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, HMKG (His Majesty the King's Guard) is a battalion of the Norwegian Army. The battalion has two main roles; it serves as the Norwegian King's bodyguards, guarding the royal residences (the Royal Palace in Oslo, Bygdøy Kongsgård and Skaugum) and Akershus Fortress in Oslo, and is also the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of Oslo. This is His Majesty the Kings army. Their job is to protect the royal castle behind them and other royal residens. They have won several prices in Tatoo competitions. The most impressing is that the soldiers are in the army for only one year. Then they start over again training a new group. Sometimes they throw the guns to one another. There is a bayonet in the end of the gun.
From 13 to 17 , i was in the avon army cadets. I learned there to play a bugle, bell liar and drums. Loved it, still love listening to bands. Thanks to Lt Lewis.

My daughter and I visited Norway. You can walk right up to the palace. At least in 1983! King Olav was talking to some workmen near the palace. We did not know who he was and we were watching the workmen as well. We were talking and this elderly gentleman asked if we were from America and when we said we were he asked if we were having a good time. We said we were and it was very nice there. We then said goodbye. As we walked away someone asked if we knew who he was, we said he seemed like a nice man. They then said he was the King. Were we surprised !

This isn’t as easy as they make it look out to do. My son was in marching all thru high school and into college and I know how long they practiced. A lot long then the football guys did! So these soldiers practiced a lot to do this and with so much precision.
Brings back memories of high school halftime drills in the marching band. And I think our drills were more complex than this. Now, none of these Jackson tracks had been released by the time I got my master's, to say nothing of graduating college and high school.

My dad LOVED the Norwegians, Finnish and Swedish ... great on skis and defeating Herr Htiler when he moved on them. We often forget how STRONG THE 'Northern' countries are. Danish also!

Each year a new band of recruits is formed.
These guys have all played in school bands, but have only worked together for weeks before travelling around the world performing...
Same with the "rifles".
This is a show of discipline, an example of what you can do with recruits in under a year (obligatory military service).
The rest of the Royal guard (HMKG) companies that you see in the background have guard duty in addition to normal field training with specializations into reconnaissance, escort, mechanized infantry, Urban Warfare/MOUT, mobile command station and comms/logistic.
They are very much an active military unit, for example during the terrorist attack in Oslo of 2011, HMKG set up Machine gun-positions overlooking the same area that you see in the video.

Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, HMKG (His Majesty the King's Guard) is a battalion of the Norwegian Army. The battalion has two main roles; it serves as the Norwegian King's bodyguards, guarding the royal residences (the Royal Palace in Oslo, Bygdøy Kongsgård and Skaugum) and Akershus Fortress in Oslo, and is also the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of Oslo.
The 3rd Guard Company is a company in the Norwegian battalion of His Majesty the Kings Guard. The company is a parade, ceremony, concert, and demonstration unit that consists of the music, drill and bugle troop.
During the summer, you can experience “Garden” as Norwegians call it in Oslo when the guard parades from the old Akershus Fortress to the Royal Palace during the changing of the palace guard. The guard parade will exit through the main gate of the old fortress and follow Kirkegata to Karl Johans gate. From there, the soldiers continue up Karl Johans gate towards the Palace. There are around 50 Guard Parades during the summer and the will usually depart the old fortress at 13.05 hours.
CP1 The oldest company; the only one up until 1889. Rifle company, consisting of one company staff platoon, and four rifle platoons (infantry and Urban Warfare/MOUT). CP1 fought invading Wehrmacht forces in April 1940. Motto: First and foremost (Først og fremst).
CP2 Established in 1889. Rifle company. Similar structure to CP 1 and CP 4. Motto: "Second to none". Participated in World War II.
CP3 The renowned band & drill company, participating in military tattoos all over the world. Consists of three platoons: Music, Drums and Bugles, and Drill. Motto: Rhythm, elegance, precision (Rytme, eleganse, presisjon).
CP4 Founded in June 1919 and is known as the Red Horde or the Fighting Fourth. Rifle company. Similar structure to CP 1 and CP 2. Participated with half a platoon during the skirmish at Lundehøgda in April 1940. Motto: The Fighting Fourth.
CP5 Fifth Company is the company that "makes the wheels turn". The company supports the rest of the battalion with a variety of administrative and operational tasks, and is organised quite differently from the other companies. The company consists of a medical platoon, a mechanics and maintenance platoon, a command post (communications) platoon, a supplies/logistics platoon, Battalion support staff, and more. About half of the company are qualified guard soldiers, while the other half will not stand guard but will participate in parades. Motto: Style and strength (Stil og styrke).

Technology this is dancing as they are moving their feet, body or both in a rhythm to music or a beat which is what the definition of dancing actually is.

I don’t know how you watch this without being impressed by the precision , the discipline and perfection the utter pride of presentation ! Did anyone here notice that they have somehow made the white stripe on their pants line up to create a pattern when they turn in and then face each other as the move ! Wow ! This is His Majesty the Kings army. Their job is to protect the royal castle behind them and other royal residens. They have won several prices in Tatoo competitions. The most impressing is that the soldiers are in the army for only one year. Then they start over again training a new group.
Sometimes they throw the guns to one another. There is a bayonet in the end of the gun.
From 13 to 17 , i was in the avon army cadets. I learned there to play a bugle, bell liar and drums.

The definition of the word dance is to move one's body, feet or both to music or a rhythm so technically they are dancing, so sad to see so many people who don't know the meaning of a word slating someone who is more knowledgeable than them

My daughter and I visited Norway. You can walk right up to the palace. At least in 1983! King Olav was talking to some workmen near the palace. We did not know who he was and we were watching the workmen as well. We were talking and this elderly gentleman asked if we were from America and when we said we were he asked if we were having a good time. We said we were and it was very nice there. We then said goodbye. As we walked away someone asked if we knew who he was, we said he seemed like a nice man. They then said he was the King. Were we surprised !

This isn’t as easy as they make it look out to do. My son was in marching all thru high school and into college and I know how long they practiced. A lot long then the football guys did! So these soldiers practiced a lot to do this and with so much precision.
