It wasn’t the soldiers folks were upset about hun, it was the promised caption of” dance to thriller” they made the boo- boo not those awesome lads. I’m a military brat, married a marine. They were great, perfect, spot on, bad caption.

They practice about 8-12 hours daily all in all, incl strength, discipline, attitude, uniform ironing & shoeshine. They are all 18-19 y old conscripts, meaning they change the whole band and drill guard every year in October. Very hard & tough first serve - a great honor to be chosen to kp3 of The Norwegian Kings Guard.

This looks a lot like the field shows that I was a part of in my high school marching band, only we faced forward at all times, which is really difficult when you're doing pass throughs going backwards and diagonally while practically running, playing your instrument and keeping your upper body as motionless as possible. These guys did a beautiful job. If I'm ever able to visit my ancestral land of Norway, then I'd love to see these men during their maneuvers. Much love and respect for all those who serve.
It was my privilege to train with the Norwegains as part of an exchange program in 1980, which included contact with the Konigs Gaard !! They are fine soldiers and very tough.

Though I now live far from Norway, this brings me back to my childhood when I often walked or ran across this large area in front of the Kings Palace in “Slottsparken,” the King’s Park.
The titling of this video doesn't do it justice. These aren't just some rank-and-file Norwegian soldiers. This is the highly trained Norwegian Royal Guard - world famous, and fierce fighters too. And they of course aren't "dancing", this is precision military drill, that takes hundreds of hours to perfect. They are frequently invited to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I streets in Washington D.C., where they compete and march alongside the U.S. Marine Corps silent drill team.

My dad was born in Bergen, Norway. He came to America, because he became very ill. Norway didn't have the knowledge to get him well, so they sent them to America. This gave me the chills & their percision was perfect.

A few days ago while visiting Oslo I followed them up Karl Johan's gate to the Palace for the Changing of the Guard. They move fast. I had a hard time catching up with them. Great show.
Its incredible how peaceful and democratic that country is. I walked up to the palace, found a side entrance to the gardens which was open, walked in a few steps and saw the garden. No guards, no tresspasing sign, no hassle.
Okay, I just came in here to rip the whole idea of troops playing pop tunes it drives me Nuts! And yet I found myself rather surprised how good this was and dare I say, I was both entertained and impressed. Way to go my Norwegian brothers, you just showed all the rest how to do it! 👏🏻
In school I was part of our school band as a majorette so i'm a little familiar with what it takes to march so precisely and change formation all while playing an instrument and handling rifles. Kudos to all these young people and superiors!

My daughter and I visited Norway. You can walk right up to the palace. At least in 1983! King Olav was talking to some workmen near the palace. We did not know who he was and we were watching the workmen as well. We were talking and this elderly gentleman asked if we were from America and when we said we were he asked if we were having a good time. We said we were and it was very nice there. We then said goodbye. As we walked away someone asked if we knew who he was, we said he seemed like a nice man. They then said he was the King. Were we surprised !

Each year a new band of recruits is formed. These guys have all played in school bands, but have only worked together for weeks before travelling around the world performing... Same with the "rifles".
My dad LOVED the Norwegians, Finnish and Swedish ... great on skis and defeating Herr Htiler when he moved on them. We often forget how STRONG THE 'Northern' countries are. Danish also!
This is a show of discipline, an example of what you can do with recruits in under a year (obligatory military service). The rest of the Royal guard (HMKG) companies that you see in the background have guard duty in addition to normal field training with specializations into reconnaissance, escort, mechanized infantry, Urban Warfare/MOUT, mobile command station and comms/logistic. They are very much an active military unit, for example during the terrorist attack in Oslo of 2011, HMKG set up Machine gun-positions overlooking the same area that you see in the video.
Technology this is dancing as they are moving their feet, body or both in a rhythm to music or a beat which is what the definition of dancing actually is. But i agree its not what most people would say is dancing

My dad LOVED the Norwegians, Finnish and Swedish ... great on skis and defeating Herr Htiler when he moved on them. We often forget how STRONG THE 'Northern' countries are. Danish also!

This is a show of discipline, an example of what you can do with recruits in under a year (obligatory military service).
The rest of the Royal guard (HMKG) companies that you see in the background have guard duty in addition to normal field training with specializations into reconnaissance, escort, mechanized infantry, Urban Warfare/MOUT, mobile command station and comms/logistic.
They are very much an active military unit, for example during the terrorist attack in Oslo of 2011, HMKG set up Machine gun-positions overlooking the same area that you see in the video.
This isn’t exactly “dancing”! But it’s definitely amazing to watch!
Technology this is dancing as they are moving their feet, body or both in a rhythm to music or a beat which is what the definition of dancing actually is.
But i agree its not what most people would say is dancing

I don’t know how you watch this without being impressed by the precision , the discipline and perfection the utter pride of presentation ! Did anyone here notice that they have somehow made the white stripe on their pants line up to create a pattern when they turn in and then face each other as the move ! Wow !
