  • We follow Julian David, who is representing New Zealand in men's speed climbing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He's gearing up for one of his last events before the Games, the IFSC World Cup in Chamonix, France. The team's coach, Rob Moore, works with Julian and his teammate, Sarah Tetzlaff, for 25 to 30 hours a week to practice and refine their intense training regimen. For the very first time, speed climbing will be judged as a standalone event at the 2024 Olympics, and the pair are the first from New Zealand to qualify.
Sam Watson broke his own world record of 4.79 seconds at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a time of 4.74 seconds. Julian David achieved a new personal best of 5.24 seconds. At the time of publishing, this narrows their difference to 0.5 seconds.

TBH you shouldve done this documentary on the Indonesian (Veddriq) who won gold. Indonesia somehow seems to always produce great speed climbers, both male and female for many years now. Wouldve been cool to see background into that

4.740 is the record now. The record was broken before they even posted this.

Kudos to him! What an impressive achievement, especially at 19 years of age. I know he will be one of the GOAT at Speed Climbing. Hopefully he'll get that gold medal soon in the 2028 Olympics!

Hows about this for irony I am lying in bed barely able to stand uptight due to sarcopenia in my leg muscles looking for tips on how to train my leg muscles to be stronger, when I have done enough functional exercise to get my legs to be strong enough to get to a gym again. I used to be able to get out of my futon bed and squat lift my considerable bulk to full height. And then stand on one leg in turn whilist I put my five fingers on.
I have a way to go!

    1. Second to none.
    2. More than half a second (a lot) behind the actual fastest.
    3. Got too nervous and celebrated before taping the run.
    4. Didn't make it to the finals.
    Interesting..

9:21 just saying I wouldn’t apologize for this at all. If they are upset then they should get better at the sport instead of complaining about what the person who won did. Don’t ever let someone else tell you not to show your emotions when winning on a stage like that. You worked hard to get there and deserve to show some emotions. Idc what everyone else thinks about it you earned that if you ask me. Like I said if your competition dosent like it then maybe they should practice more and beat you next time so you can’t celebrate. People want some sort of gratification just for putting the work in, when that’s not life. Like I said if someone has something to say about what you’re doing then let them beat you first then they can say something.

Celebrating before going over the finish line IS bad style I'd say and it mocks the other competitor. I watched the race and it didn't seem like it was with bad intention but just a very excited guy. But it shows some good sportsmanship to make clear that it was not mockery and to apologize.

These guys shouldn’t consider themselves climbers. You can tell there is very little resistance. They can almost just pull themselves up without their feet because of that cable. Let’s put them on some actual rocks and if you worry about getting hurt, put a pad underneath it, pulling on plastic things attached to a cable is not climbing in the least bit, that would kind of be like going to a logging show and watching them chop plastic log with plastic ax not the same

    • @annakissed3226

I didn't know you owned the term. You can climb up a cliff, a plastic hold, a tree, a ladder, right? Plus, these dudes definitely climb outside, too.

      1. Who are you the define what "true climbing" is? The climbing grandmaster?
      2. The rope does NOT pull the athlete up. Please dont make claims based on lies.
      3. If I went to a logging show and somebody was able to compete using a plastic axe, id be hella impressed lol.
      4. Pulling on plastic bits attached to a cable is just indoor climbing. Are you dismissing all of that as "not being climbing" as well?
Dont dismiss this sport as childs play. I share youre citicism for the sport if were talking about lack of creativity, but you do seem a bit angry and quite unfaur towards something you plain dont seem to understand. Have a nice day.

Are you sure you're a climber? Climbers tend to be supportive and motivate others, not being them down. Speed climbing is its own thing, of course it's not on real rock
