I like the large pans those are really useful 😮 you can tell these pans were designed in mind to use with traditional Japanese brushes too which is cool
The problem with this palette is that it is very expensive, not only for a plastic palette but for a palette in general. I found the 24 pans/wells model for 86 euros which is an absurd price IMHO for an otherwise plastic box with some removable pans, that are not even a novelty as there are plenty of plastic boxes out there with similar removable pans that can be repurposed according to ones needs.
Nice to see you here Steph 😊 I agree. Its really not portable but I love the idea of switching the pans around for different subjects. No need to pour paints in multiple palettes! If it works well, this could be my main palette for home use.
Hi! I like the pans very much, but I don't like pallets with paint on both sides - need one side for paint and one side for mixing or things get very messy if the paint is not absolutely dry when it's closed. Other than that, I would like to have this palette. Thanks for the review! ♥️💐♥️
Nice idea, but I prefer metallic palettes. I usually make these myself from recycling tin containers and then buying the pans separately to assemble to suit.
@@Girlwithpink I use any tin that suits the size I might need. Some are lozenge tins, where I can fit 6 to 8 half pans or 3 to 5 full pans. Others are larger tins, pencil tins for example or even an old cigar box. There are plenty of videos on TH-cam how to make your own watercolour palettes. Most recommend using magnets that are glued onto the bottom of the pans to secure them in the metal tin base, but I just use a small blob of Blu-Tack. In plastic or wooden palettes the Blu-Tack works just as well. Try your own mini-palette of say 3 primaries and two secondaries. From those six colours you'll be able to mix many different colours to suit most type of sketch paintings. I usually carry a separate metal or porcelain mixing tray in case I need to mix more paint. But for small sketches, up to A5 size, the tin lid can me used to do all the mixing. For a wooden palette, I put a metal tin lid inside to use for mixing. There are many ways to improvise the set up. I'm often trying new set ups and changing the combination of paints that I put in them. I have two extra mini-palettes, one for earth colours and one for greens that I like to use. This saves me trying to mix those colours when I'm painting outside or in a café bar. The White Nights 12 pan travel palette is an excellent size for a more comprehensive range of colours in just one palette. It accepts 12 full pans that are held in place by the plastic grid inside. Therefore, there is no need for magnets or Blu-Tack. However, the lid only has two mixing areas, so you'll have to wipe clean as you go.
@@markdonovan1540 thanks! I have tried to use old pencil case tins and make my own half pans 1 full pan of brunt umber (they are made out of watercolor paper) but the colors started to mold so I just used some glue and add it to a piece of cardboard, I will definitely try yours :D
@@Girlwithpink I usually get the empty half or full pans from local art supply shops where I live in Madrid. I also recycle pans that have been used up in old travel palettes that I used to use. I've been collecting those small table candle tins too, but I haven't yet found a way to fit them into a palette box. I'm also concerned that the metal edge could damage the brush hairs. My idea is to use an old piece of wood, cut blind holes and fit the table candle tins in the hole. If I can fit them in tight and sink the edge in and glue to the side, then maybe it might work.
@@markdonovan1540 same my old tin box my brush couldn’t fit in so what I did is I get a small water brush and put it in the side it’s kind of easier for me also I will get my brush and just kind of cut it in half it would damage the wood but that’s fine and I would sand it and put it in the tin.
If they would pit all the pans on one side and the othsr side for only mixing......would be perfect! Its how all palettes should be, or at least haveba model like that.
i love the idea of the movable pans but i just don't get it, -------- why do they make a palette that when you close it the paints on one side are going to be upside down facillitating drips.... at home i can leave it open, well mostly if i can keep the cats from walking through it an making colorful paw prints all over the furniture and floors but if i am working outside i do not have the luxury of time for the paints to dry and have to close it --so which paints do i want to drip down onto the others or if i lay it on its side, all the paints will drip down.
What's the purpose of having removable full pans like that? I have the perfect Watercolor palette design and I'm going to patent it. I'm serious. I might sell them on etsy at some point.
The purpose is so that you can move them around. Because maybe you want to change the palette after you pour it (it's pretty much a guarantee.) I'm curious about your palette design, although I must say I wonder if it's not immediately obvious to you why you'd want to move pans around, I'm not sure it'd also be perfect for me. Etsy is not a great deal for the seller - if you bother to patent your product, definitely sell it elsewhere!
It's 1 year on since your perfect palette design comment; did you ever patent it, & is it for sale anywhere as I'm looking to purchase one ATM. Please advise, many thanks.

I wish holbein would bring back the folding palettes they used to have.

Looks perfect for folks like me that use tube paints. It is definitely not something I'd travel with though, more for the studio.

Hi. Yes. I use it mostly as a mixing palette. The surface is smooth and easy to clean although it stains.
