My grandmother was Cherokee and very proud of it. She grew up as an orphan on a reservation in Oklahoma. She was given the name Bronson and claimed to be Charles Bronson's 3rd cousin. She never trusted banks. When she died they found money hidden all over her house. She was a talented seamstress who made a decent living sewing clown costumes for Barnum and Bailey in the 50's and 60's. She chewed tabbaco and loved to watch wrestling matches. She never cut her hair and always wore it tightly in a bun. She was quite the character and I miss her to this day. I would love to see more Native American comics as well as political leaders.

Ha that's true the laughter is great medicine same thing in Ireland we laugh at ourselves which is not the same as make fun of others plight . I remember as a child meeting my first red man, in person, he was a motorcycle stunt man with an American circus that had a wooden wall of death. My father was a good carpente and when he went to fix the wooden drum he brought me to meet a real red man. So I was delighted and shook hands with the big guy and at four years old told him that when the Cowboys and Indians were fighting in the movies we wanted the Indians to win . He laughed and laughed a lot.

Democracy existence goes back to almost the dawn of civilization itself, Many civilizations had & have it from Arabs to European & from remote African villages to Far East tiny island nations.. the term Democracy in Latin is borrowed from Greek while in Arabic we call it “Shura” which means ; (Asking for advice or Sharing opinions) many languages have this term or concept .. so it’s not exclusively “Native Indian” although I love and admire their culture and wish they’re more represented in USA and thanks 🙏🏼

half ojibwe cree and half french finnish :) its hard to balance both out, i love my white side and have learned to love my native side. i am appreciative for my heritage on both sides. i havent been in touch with my native side after spending my childhood in the usa. i really, REALLY love the usa but i never learned about native americans, even living in a county called seminole and going to a school called indian trails with a native mascot (i think they recently changed it) hahaha.
anyway, there are so many traditions and depth to the native culture.
when i first moved back to where i was born, in canada i felt ashamed of my native heritage. so many drunks and addicts all shady, its become habit to avoid shady natives. i understand that these are problems in the community but after so many bad encounters i have started to judge. there's a beautiful, pure side to it. my family that i have met are all sober, and all elder to me. the ones that didn't turn to sobriety ended up dead. so many awful deaths in that family, my biological dad recently passed away too and i mever even met him. lots of trauma and its so normal for plenty of native americans, so i understand the addiction issues but i just dont like heing caught in the middle of it.

I was in Indian Guides as a kid which was a father, son bonding program through YMCA. I know it sounds terrible, and not acceptable now adays, but a very big portion of what we did was learn how Natives lived back then, and learned about the land. It gave me a huge appreciation for my region, the native plants, animals, rocks, terrain, and how they can be used, cared for, and appreciated. We had native speakers come to teach us life skills and how to be good men. I was sad to hear YMCA disbanded the program because I doubt I would have gained this much appreciation for those forefigures and their rich history without it. Censoring everything hurts and hides culture, and culture is important, especially for developing minds.

I'm tired too of people trying to figure out what to call us. I'm 72 and been asked hundreds of times what nationality I am. I have never in my life asked a person what nationality they are. I don't care.

When asked about my ancestry I always answer, human. Both parents as a matter of fact, and you?
The conversation usually ends after I answer their follow up with " earth" with some side eye and a smirk

I wish there were more. 💔 I've never heard of a funny indian? Lol. She's never been around native americans. Lol✊ Charlie was the best.
When we were in the theatre watching Smoke Signals. Not many there. But my husband and I were rolling while the rest there looked confused. Loved it

I am Anishinaabe. But I do have an Iroquois relative. He was part of a war party who got tired of war and told the Ojibwe where the war party was. He became part of our Tribe.
