If the group or Jake alone put out an album of music in this style I would sooooooo buy it! It seems like a perfect fit for his voice. It doesn't hurt that these guys are so adorable (especially Keith)!!!!!!
I feel like as a whole, they're really good, but Jake is the only one out of all of them who could be a successful solo musician. His voice is so clear and his tone is great. This and there Elvis medley are their best performances from the competition, and it is solely because Jake sings the lead.
The more I watch this, the more I like it. Not only did Jake completely own the lead, but the rest of the group handled multiple tempo changes and some interesting choreo...all without missing a beat. My only fault is that I really wanted to hear a ninth on the closing chord...but if that's my biggest complaint, then they're doing everything they need to do at this point. :-)
I would agree that older songs work better with Vocal Point. It seems to me that those older songs have more soul, and have better musicianship in them. They're classier, cleaner, better harmonies and chord choices, etc. Really, everything Vocal Point stands for and looks for in music.
A lot of people have said these guys sound better on older songs, and I agree. Keep in mind that today's music doesn't have as many songs with complex harmonies, so it's easier for a capella groups to use older music, especially when your group is more than 3-4 people. For some reason, in LDS culture, a lot of people listen to older music. Plus, with newer music, there's a lot of lyrics they'd have to change, because, as BYU students "cussing" is against school code.
@willhalt01 I appreciate your very kind compliment and your support of the group. I will say (and not only because he's my roommate and best friend) that I think McKay's voice is in many ways much better than my own, and I wouldn't have been able to sell the songs he did lead on nearly as well as he did :)
@9kmurphy No doubt, twas just my take away from a few of Ben's comments throughout the show. You killed "Every Little Step". Ultimately, I think it really comes down to what Sony wants.
From top to bottom, this was the best college group on this show thus far. Problem is, and you can sort of see Ben hint at it in other performances, is they should have had Keith been a bigger lead. Nothing against McKay, because he is obviously great at arranging the songs. I think they, the producers, wanted that "sound" when you hear it you know you're listening to VP. No offense to the other guys, but make a group of Keith, McKay, Jake, Tanner, and Robert when you graduate college.
Actually, it was first performed by Fred Astaire in 1930. A dozen or so others recorded it in the more than 30 years before Sinatra got around to it, including Ella Fitzgerald in 1941. Get real. A true Sinatra fan would know that the old jazz standards were written by talented arrangers and lyricists and sung by the great vocalists of that time. If the song was popular, everybody was singing it.
My point is that one could similarly hate Frank Sinatra's version for tainting Ella Fitzgerald's song, and that maybe people like you should climb down off of your high horses and stop treating covers as something that disgraces an "original" when, without them, Frank Sinatra's version would not have existed. Nice tactic trying to reframe what "my point" is though. You should get into politics. Also, the use of insults is a very nice touch. I find it really reinforces you're ideas.
The bass in this song is amazing they made everything flow so seamlessly together it sounded spectacular
I just about died from smiling, and my insides melted at Jake's voice. His tone is so pure and suave. I just love him XD
This is a bucket of smooth with a side of butter :-) Well played gentlemen....

Genius choice!!!! Brilliant stellar performance!!!!
Jake's voice is like butter.
I keep hearing Michael Buble. He would EASILY pull off Michael....if only this WAS a Buble song! LOL Handsome and a great voice. Ugh, I'm in love
This is my favorite performance of the whole competition still.....
he still gives me chills
I always feel the need to applaud after watching them
*hug*
these guys are great!
Love love love these guys, soooo smooth... love the style
They're going to win so talented. Oh my goodness this show is really amazing
ok no, the frontman is a modern copy Sinatra, he sounds awesome
+SJ Kingston Exactly what I have in mind! :D
They should've been in the finale :3
Oh my gosh!!! This was so awesome! I loved it so much! Wow, I was afraid, since I love the original so much, but that rocked!
it's even more awesome because Jake actually looks (never mind sounds) like Frank Sinatra... needless to say I loved this.
Personally, I think they should make a cover of the entire song and post it because that is just really good singing.
I watched this last night and it was so cool it took me like ten minutes to find!!! LUV IT!!!!!!!!
I really like the lead's voice, really Sinatra'ee, really smooth and pleasant
BEST GROUP ON THE SHOW! LOVE THEM!!!!!

Fantastic!!!! Bravo!
They did a fantastic job!
Very polished. Like this group a lot.
the most polished sound in the comp. excellent
It may might be intend to penetrate the lifestyle of this guys. One of the greatest show in US...
They sure look snazzy. I think the costumes made the song as much as the song did, really (love those hats).
Ive seen them live they are sooo good!! gotta love us Mormons!! =D
OMG
I felt like I was watching musical...
And I suddenly realized it was the sing-off when the judges appeared.
HE SOUNDS LIKE MICHAEL BUBLE!!! awesome job
Lead vocal is great. That dude has got chops. Great job mate
The more I watch this, the more I like it.

Love!!! 2nd fave group this season....I think. I forgot who was on the the other half.
They are so hot rockin' the fedoras! I love Vocal Point!
Classic Manhattan Transfer sound. Fan-damn-tastic.
that was so sassy way good! awoo!
0:48 That's a train I would get on!
they still sound great but on tv and surround sound it was perfect!
Well done Gentlemen!

That was awesome
This is like Mad Man A capella! Swanky!!!
Amazing!
They're a cute little rat pack of wholesome Thundercats.

There is more sizzle here than all the gross, over the top, graphic songs put together. Boom baby. Melted.
This is the best
VP should take the 5-6 best performers they have. Jake, Tanner, the bass (Robert?), the guy who sang Bobby Brown, then the guy with the glasses.
You can buy all of the Sing Off tracks, collectively or separate, at ITunes and Amazon.
i love it! :D
Complete swag:)

@azukibeanmochi Actually, he's not the only one like that. Tanner, Michael, and Ross are also married but still attending university. :)
that lead singer sounds almost like Frank. I think Frank Sinatra would be proud and maybe even call the lead singer an honorary son.
groovy!!
@9kmurphy No doubt, twas just my take away from a few of Ben's comments throughout the show. You killed "Every Little Step". Ultimately, I think it really comes down to what Sony wants.
Not a dry seat in the house.

@wicketsmommy021210 they have an album on itunes
I just watched this video for the first time since I became a college student.... I am nothing
he has my heart skipped a beat @ 0:05
Jim Parsons. Oh my god. It looks just like him.
Yeah Jake!
Ah my god! Swoon!
@mrduckbear11
What kiss at the end?
They actually have two!!!
If you get a chance find the petition to save the Sing Off. It's being cancelled!
Mormon boys will win!!! :D
@RyomaE13 Don't you mean he sounds like Frank Sinatra? -_-x
How in the world did this get a B+????????
0:49 - 1:08 my favorite part. is that considered a samba?
@AK77449
They actually do sing an Alphabet song....
Hottest performance! LOL!
there are only 8 boys? (9) when they're on stage it looks like more than 8 (9) am i right?
Why doesn't this guy always sing the lead?
They were showing different styles of jazz from the '60s, so it was all on purpose.
1:30 - 1:33 SANG IT!
@playsoccer227 I think Not Afro Blue is... but they are Good....
A lot of their harmonies sounded dissonant to me and the tempo seemed to speed up and slow down. Is that all just a 60s thing?
Jake can come and sing to me aaaaaaanytime=]
I think you miss my point. Sinatra didn't record it until '64. He is by no stretch of the imagination "the original". Stop trying to be offensive.
I think it's a purity ring I wear one
Vocal point is on point am I right? lol
No dislikes yet....
haha i think the lead looks like will arnet and sounds like michael buble during this performance
major swoonage.
Go Mormons!!!!
Lead looks kinda like Will Arnett...

I think the correct term is 'sambish.'
why does ben never stand wtf!
I wanna marry him...
@RyomaE13 He's WAY cuter than Will Arnet.
SWANK.
No, Fred Astaire.
