Tuba Skinny. You don't need to say much more. Incredible musicians no matter the song. Lead by Shaye Cohn's terrific cornet and Erika's vocals they are truely a taste of heaven for any music lover of whatever genre.
Shaye you have made me change my mind Re women playing wind instruments ,You are magnificent , Erika Mesmerises me and the rest of the band overwhelm me I just think you are all extremely talented, I pray that you are all spared this Virus and that all your dreams are realised in 2021 (Melb. I've been reading different comments that people have said about this band lots of good statements. I have listen to hundreds of their songs and they are simpler the best that I ever heard. I sure wish I see them in person.
You have no idea. So much is lost on even the best video. I heard for the first time last night, and was overwhelmed.

great playing, the clarinetist outstanding as usual. Very nice solo on the coronet. Really spoke to me. Add the clock work on the banjo guitar. Tears fill my eyes.

I live in Grass Valley, but missed this performance. To bad . Will not miss next one. Love these people.
Had a chance to talk with them and they are likable right away; to know them would be to love them.
With the absence of Barnabus Jone's simpatico trombone we get to hear Shaye Cohn's exquisite cornet more fully .. a pure, warm tone - top to bottom, and brilliant phrasing, solo or decorating Erika's vocal (something fine in it's own right). And we hear the sonorous support of the tuba too, from Todd Burdick (Mr. Tuba Skinny).
The audio systems for this venue were excellent and added greatly to the listening enjoyment by bring out the characters of the instruments.
"Blue" of Erika Lewis so very very nice.
I saw Tuba Skinny at the d.b.a. in New Orleans earlier this year and they closed out the 3 hour set with this song. It was literally a show stopper.
It is a real departure for Tuba Skinny but not for Erika Lewis. This is a country song originally written for Patsy Cline just before her untimely death, so she never recorded it. It was recorded and made a hit years later by Leanne Rimes. Erika has a love for country music and sings country in another group that performs around New Orleans.
I am a fan of both country and traditional jazz and I am excited to hear this fusion of the two. There were hints dropped during the show that the new CD due out later this year will feature songs that are a departure from the standard fare of their earlier albums. I predict this song and others like it will be on the new CD. I, for one, encourage it.
EDIT: Now that their new CD, "Blue Chime Stomp", is out I have admit that my prediction was wrong. No country songs for a change of pace, instead their are several songs given a R&B treatment. And they are GREAT! But would still like to hear more country.

James Sterling Yup. My understanding is that the song was tabled for years after Patsy Cline's death, because no one could sing it. Enter 13-year-old Leann Rimes. She made the song famous, as the song did her. I love this New Orleans band, and I also wish they would do more country classics.

I love this band. Some tunes remind me of Jelly Roll & Bix who I used to listen before the Beatles & Stones came along, but some tunes also have a unique flavour. They stop me working & the only thing wrong with them are the 3 grungy baseball caps.
It seem like Shaye has an exceptional command of the tone and voice of her cornet, which is not it appears, a simple instrument.

Miss Barnabas' trombone in the mix. Adds a good amount of balance to the rest. But TS is so good they can make it work even with one of the key players missing.

Ive seen more tuba skinny videos than a man is allowed by current international law. And may I say this is a very unusual skinny video indeed. the question I pose to the you tube audience is this...where the FFFF is Jonesy?

This song has a strange history. When people hear it, they often remember Patsy Cline singing it. Moreover, the story persists that the writer, Bill Mack, wrote it specifically for Cline. Both stories continue to be believed, yet both are untrue. Cline never recorded the song, although it seems so right for her that she might have done so had she not died in an accident in 1963. Bill Mack vehemently denied writing it for Cline, asserting he never wrote any song for a particular performer. The song was covered by many artists before LeeAnn Rimes, then 13, made a recording of it in 1996 that became a towering hit on country charts. It sure is the kind of song Cline performed so brilliantly. I like to think that Erika performs the song exactly as Patsy Cline would have done.

Great video. Shows how arbitrary and meaningless the so-called division between jazz and country was. Strictly a marketing gimmick.
