    Amazing how the people passing by seem to be so indifferent to these tremendous musicians. Perhaps if they were paying for the privilege, there would be a different response. I really believe people are so rapped up in getting somewhere they don't take the time to enjoy the moment. Tuba Skinny IS the best New Orleans band of this era, perhaps ever!

      Maybe on another day they stopped to listen.

      Maybe they drank too strong a coffee and are looking for a restroom! ...real quick! ... 🤤

    The bees knees . I can hear Freddie Keppard wailing.

    This s one of my faves since I don't know when. The band has such a concentrated syncopation that as they do. it makes the number.

    wow, they are the living embodiment of King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, absolutely love it!

      what. king oliver and dodds et al were in a much higher level. tuba skinny are good, very good. in an old fashioned cutting contest they would be lucky to come third out of 2. they are good bt then king oliver was a king, and king keppard, olivers great recordings in1923, and the dixie syncopators had swing like nothing before, ferocious. listen to the poly rhythms oliver generates in mabels dream 1923, snag it, tack annie,......you have to appreciate the inner rhythmic structure which older recordings barely capture. tuba skinny are good very good, altogther but not polyrhythmic as were the black guys. there is one person lower down the list who could hear freddie keppard wailing.....no keppard did not wail he hammered. oliver was a hammer and wailed when hit his thumb
      listen and you can hear rhythmic complexity from the black guys which to my OPINION was well in advance of their white peers. but thanks to ts for keeping the music vital, and thanks to you for your appreciation of traditional jazz and i hope you progress to the rhythmic complexity to black jazz at the turn of the 20cent

      @@Austin-hw5gf I LOVE Joe Oliver and his contemporaries. But Brookes has no idea what he talks about. Though, he isn't bad at pretending expertise - a typical hot air merchant.

      There were a lot of doubters when Craig took over for Jon Doyle. I think Craig has definitely shown that he belongs in the band.

      You're right. He's certainly got that licorice stick sewn up from altissimo right down to the chalumeau. It is wonderful to hear him demonstrate his prowess on the instrument.

      John Burborough people who love this band know that each member contributes to the excellence of the music, but Shaye seems to be the driving force behind what is more distinctive about Tuba Skinny. She's the magic that makes things work so well.

    Are any of these songs rehearsed or written down as "sheet music?", or made up as you play them?

  • @robbinsonhatol1923
    @robbinsonhatol1923 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    ... a good music conductor sometimes turns his back on the band and can tell if anyone is off key or late/ early on the measure... tupelo is concentrating on the music ... not the show ... 🤔
