      The Nikon d7000 is just as good a camera with good lenses even today with a good model like Chelsea. The d7200 is a better camera with more pixels and a better buffer. But again, a good photographer and a beautiful model create wonderful miracles.
      Thank you for such good advice. It is certainly nice to have a good camera with even better lenses because a good photo is the most beautiful memory, especially for artists who know what they want.

      All newbies shutting in manual mode when they buy theirs first cameras
      It is newbies feature
      Professionals then use S or A modes, semi auto. Manual mode uses only with manual speadlight
      But all newbies use manual whenever they are shutting

    Thank you Tony & Chelsea! I bought the Nikon D7200 because of this video! I love this bad boy! Costco has it for $1399 and comes with two lenses. Nikkor 18-55mm, Nikkor 55-300mm, two Nikon batteries, plug-in charger, 32gig SDcard and a Nikon bag. A perfect kit to get into the art of photography. I went with the D7200 because of the focus motor built-in. I can use any lens with a G or D. Thank you for awesome videos!

    Great review. Glad to see the NX1 get an honorable mention. Love the autofocus on the 70 mkII though. You can get 4K vidz on a NX1 for $1299 vs $1699 with a GH4. The NX1 is definitely a camera to check out. Would of also loved to see the A77ii in here also to see how that compares.

    Hey guys just found you a few days or so now. I am stepping up to the D7200 from the D5100 so this for me a all round serious hobby shooter I think I ll be happy with it. I have seen a few reviews now. I liked yours because a friend told me Na just go to the D5500 but for me I can't see the point of that I loved your videos but for me when you swap talking about one cam and to another cam I got a little lost and one time when you said the D7200 I was not sure what you had said only due to talking to fast. but over all great videos keep up the great work new subscriber from me. Tony, just very recently I've seen a review that claims the 7200 lacks dynamic range. They claim that DPreview backs up their claim. Can't understand why you didn't show close ups crops from NX 1, which has more MP than any of other presented cameras. NX 1 definitely can do more detailed images than 5500 7200, just check crops at dpreview. It's unfair comparison

    Thank you for a great video Tony Northrup
    I am a happy owner of the A77II and the Sony 70-400G2, I use this combination for birds in flight and wildlife (as wild as it can get here in Scandinavia).
    I would love to see a proper wildlife/birds in flight comparison between the Nikon 7200, the Canon 7DMKII and the Sony A77II fitted with their respective zoom lenses.
    The focusing and tracking systems on these cameras are extremely complex and one really has to know how to set them up, as well as how to best take advantage of them in order to show the true potential of these camera and lens combinations.
    So if at all possible, what would be great would be to find some photographers that excel with their respective gear and then get them together, show what their systems can do, but also get them to shoot with other systems.
    Not only would this make for an interesting comparison between the systems, an interesting take on how the different manufacturers solve the challenge of focusing and tracking, it could also be extremely helpful for photographers having trouble getting the most out of their equipment, it might even make for a good book too :)
    Sorry for the long comment, I hope you don't mind.

    Thinking of picking up either a nikon d3200 or d3300. D3200 seems cost effective even if combined with f1.8g lens. My main purpose would be to make videos for my channel under any light condition. Do you think it is ok to pick d3200 instead of d3300.

    Did they fix the Green/Yellow tint in the LCD screen that was abhorrently prevalent in the D7100? Are the colors of the LCD on the D7200 as vivid and 'accurate' as the D750? Thanks for the review and the work you put into your videos.

  • @gregoryfricker9971
    @gregoryfricker9971 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tony, So, one thing that I think hasn't been fully explored regarding the DXO differences between the 7d mark ii and the D7200 is that if you look into the data the measured iso for the D7200 was in fact lower than that measured for the 7d mark ii. While they are both "shiftily" below displayed iso, but the fact of the matter is that the nikon gets to get more photons in its sensor at the same "shown" iso on the 7d mark ii. I think that if we consider that influence plus the impact of the larger sensor on the D7200, we should reconsider the criticism of the 7D mark ii.

    Hilarious that even the Nikon D5500 entry level camera beats the 7D MK2 in terms of sharpness and dynamic range! Canon REALLY need to catch up in image quality!

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jayden Styles It's a relative game of Pros and Cons. That's 100% true, but nikon also REALLY needs to catch up in the Video recording realm.. It depends on what you plan to do with them.

      Alejandro Andrés Hernández Yeah, Nikon especially needs to work on their video AF.

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, and while (despite of being inferior to nikon) you can still take proffessional leve pictures with the canon 70D if you're a good photographer, the auto focus system of a camera can make or break a video in its entirety; and nikon kind of sucks at that..

    • @ghostpanic

    Tks for your review Tony Northrup, so as your result Canon 7DII are good for fast AF and with 10fps, D7200 are good on dynamic range and image quality?

      @TonyAndChelsea  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Charles Dey It depends what you're doing. The D7200 focuses far faster than the X-T1, and has far more lenses. The lenses are also MUCH cheaper, so the system costs less overall.
      But the X-T1 is a mirrorless, has amazing manual controls, and the electronic viewfinder is awesome.
      They're very different animals.

      How important is Video for you? If you shoot 50% photos, 50% or more video then get the 70D.
      For photography (portrait, landscape esp.) get the Nikon.

    • @sandeepvk
      @sandeepvk 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would shoot 60 % photos ( Portrait and Wild life mostly ) and 40% Videos. Would you suggest Nikon 5500 or Canon 70D for me ? I checked out Nikon 5500 today, and was very happy with the pictures but equally disappointed with the videos (especially the noise from the focus hunting motor, which almost drowns any other sound). I am not sure if that applies to only, kit lens or all lenses in general.
      For Canon 70 D, the only down side perhaps is the weight (755g) and the fact that it is an older model, though the later isn't a significant drawback.

    • @BernhardRottweiler
      @BernhardRottweiler 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sandeep Krishnan Well, then I'd say take the Canon 70D - with the NIkon you won't get aperture control in Live view, the Canon has a great focusing system (on the sensor) for AF in video and you get the STM lenses which focus silently.
      There is no disadvantage with the Canon for you, while with the Nikon there is.
      I am a "pixelpeeping" landscape shooter who likes to push the shadows up to preserve highlights, so I'd take a camera with a Sony sensor (Nikon), but if I was to do what you want do - Canon 70D.

    • @sandeepvk
      @sandeepvk 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks Bernhard, that's really useful. I just wanted to check one more entrant, the Sony a6000. Is that any match for 70 D or would you still recommend the 70 D

    • @BernhardRottweiler
      @BernhardRottweiler 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sandeep Krishnan The Sony A6000 is an awesome camera - price performance ratio is excellent.
      It is quite a compact camera with exceptional capabilities, the AF is very good for a mirrorless camera.
      But to shoot wildlife? With a 70-200mm f/2.8 attached?
      The grip of the 70D is better and you have the choice of many, many lenses at different price points.
      And the Canon STM lenses are very good for video (silent while focussing)
      Professional videographers don't use AF in video btw., but it is nice to have it of course :)
      It is not an easy choice, but with the EOS 70D you can't go wrong while I don't know if the A6000 will satisfy you...
      If you're a beginner then take into account that with a mirrorless camera (talking about photography now) it is possible to see all the effects of your chosen settings (exposure compensation, styles, etc.) while looking through the viewinder. With a DSLR you see the result only after the shot when reviewing.

      i am leaning toward the canon because i like tilting screens. I am not video person. However, if the image quality is much better on d7200 i would go for it....

    Please give me a suggestion about sony alpha a77 m2 vs nikon d7200.... The autofocus system in sony is 79 points and it shoots 12 fps... Im confused 😕 in buying which one of those things....

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      arjun audi The a77's most useful focusing points are quite crammed in the center; overall it's not as strong a system as the D7200. If you need the 12 FPS, the a77 is your only choice, though you might also consider the NX1 or 7D Mk II. Note that the a77's image quality is quite behind that of the D7200, since that special mirror drops about 1/3 of the light. Also be sure to add up the total cost of the systems including the lenses you want, since Sony lenses can be more expensive.

    Hi Tony! Great to see new video's coming. But please whats out with the price tags, they are variable over sea and over time. For example, the Nikon 70-200 2.8 is cheaper as the Canon 70-200 2.8 in my region. And prices will change over time, so people watching this in a few months (These camera's will still be the around for a few years) will have to check there price tag them selfs. This might confuse costumers. Although nice review and great to see some info about the NX1!

    so I'm debating between the D7200 and the 7D MK 2 I currently use a 70D mainly but I also have a D7000. Air show is my main thing so the 7D MK 2 has is obvious appeal but I'm wondering if the D7200 would be a better choice when it comes to getting to exposure at air shows because of the wider dynamic range. With my 70D images are either under exposed or over exposed most of the time. I gave the D7100 a pass because the buffer was way too small. Thoughts?

However, I am wondering if it is worth going to the 7200 over the 7100? Additionally, can you call DXOMark and have them rate the 200-500mm with the 7100? lol

    Hi, at present I am using Canon 700d and was willing to upgrade to Canon 80d. But has come across several reviews which suggest Nikon in general gives better image quality. My main reason for upgrade apart from more features is to have better photo quality (leave apart the Full Frame which i am not interested now). Will Canon 80d or Nikon d7200 be better keeping the still photography as primary requirement.. Thanx

      +ABHISHEK PRASAD The D7200 will be very slightly better, but really, the difference in image quality isn't that much. If you really want better image quality, invest in a better lens (like the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 sdp.io/s35) or go full-frame.

      @alexandros-markovits 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Based on a looot of research i ended up on the sigma 17-50 2,8f IS , dxomark says its better than the nikon one.. the 18-140 nikon must be a good zoom too but it doesnt have the f 2,8 and isnt as sharp i think.. if you have more money then the sigma 18-35 f1,8 must be a superb lens! maybe the best for dx sensor. the only thing to have in mind for the sigma 17-50 is if it has a focus problem with that model (d7100) , because it had with some models, i think more with the d7000 and d5200? not sure.. one more thing is that the sigma 17-50 based on dxomark has 14 P-mp on my d3300 which is compared with prime lenses (50 1,8g and 35 1,8g which were my first choice to buy before i discover the sigma) and actually it says its even sharper than them.As of primes , the sharpest one i think is the 40mm 2,8, its a bit sharper than the sigma.
      Hope i helped a bit..

    The D7200 has a slightly different sensor from previous and lower end models a .1 MP difference I think. However Nikon has removed the AA filter from the D3300 and D5500 as well so the image quality should be close if not identical, 24MP with no AA filter. The only differences are feathers and build quality.

    The NX-1 sounds like an amazing camera, but as you mentioned the lens selection at the super telephoto end is virtually nonexistent. Its sad that a body doing 15fps with respectable accuracy wont be getting used for wildlife because there are no lenses to pair it with.

    • @horizon2150
      @horizon2150 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Medina Your setup is solid. Im also shooting with the 7D2, with a tammy 150-600mm for wildlife and a 70-200L F4 for bigger critters. I also have an A7 for landscapes and 'walkaround' use, with canon lens adapter. I would never consider the NX-1 as a replacement for the 7D2. There is no other camera in production that I would choose over it for wildlife, period.

    • @zvxcvxcz
      @zvxcvxcz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Medina Maybe try it in a lower FPS mode then, possibly more accurate with the algorithms having more time to zero in per se. Single shot accuracy was not assessed here. The NX1 also has some focus options to play with, release priority or focus priority. Samsung was showing a 300mm f/2.8 at Photokina that will hopefully reach market this year. I'm not trying to get you to switch, just putting this information out there.
      Tony Northrup Did the NX1 miss the image quality tests? Ah, nvm, in the middle of writing this I saw your reply to Reasonable Fan. It wasn't quite clear to me while watching that it wasn't part of those.

    • @zvxcvxcz
      @zvxcvxcz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Medina I was not talking about the 7DII speed setting. I was saying if you lower the NX1's FPS to match that of the 7DII how does it affect the hit rate?
      Again though, I wasn't trying to make you switch.
      Isn't Nikon's new 400 just copying the Canon DO tech essentially?
      I assume you're using your 400 on APS-C, because 300 on APS-C is longer than 400 on FF. Personally, I'm half in your boat. I finally got my job, this was my first week ( Tony Northrup ), funny that it's just after he got in the NX1, when I buy one I was going to ship it to him first for review. So now I'm looking at getting the Canon 400 f/5.6, NX1, and a few more NX lenses soon. The tougher decision for me is whether I additionally should add another Canon body or not (have the 5D Classic). 300 would be long enough for me most of the time on the NX1 considering the additional cropping potential of 28 MP.

    Hi. I am Aamir Zafar and I am an entry level photographer. You guys have great content and is so good to watch and learn from it. I spent the whole night up almost studying about different Nikon Cameras that I could choose from. And now I am even more confused then before. Here is where I am stuck up:-
    Whether to go for the Nikon D5000 series or the D7000 series. And its not even about the money anymore, coz there are certain features that Nikon didn't include in its D7000 series (and only God knows why they would do that)
    1. First off - I understand that the D5000 series is cheaper than the D7000, but then why would Nikon take away certain very important features such as the fully articulated touchscreen and the built-in wireless connectivity in the 7000 series
    2. Secondly - If I try settling for the D5000 series because they have the articulated screens (touchscreens in some models as well), which is a very imp feature for me, then what I lose is a double higher shutter speed (available on all 7000 series models), higher bursts at 6-8 fps frame rates and much higher ISO values
    3. Thirdly, while specifically speaking of ISO, this is another kicker - only 7200 and 7500 have better ISO values, which are considerably more expensive then the 5000 series models, whereas the 7000 and 7100 have actually lesser ISO values than the 5300, 5500 and 5600 models - ☹
    4. Fourthly, even if I go for the highest end D7500, which will cost me significantly more, yet I will get more dynamic ISOs, the highest shutter speeds, (the only camera offering) digital image stabilization, highest fps rate - yet still, I will lose the fully articulated LCD 😥
    Would love to see your reply - Thanks

      I upgraded from my Nikon D40 to Nikon D5100 (2012), was considering D7000 but it doesn't give you that much joy, it's so expensive and the D5000 seies has the same sensor as the D7000 series.... Same image quality.
      Go with the D5500 and buy a nice lens instead.

    • @WahidFayumzadah
      @WahidFayumzadah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emil Nilsson I think I got all the lenses I need for now. Of course a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 would be nice. but I got a 35mm f1.8 prime, a 14mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, the kit lens 18-55, and recently got a Tamron 70-300 4-5,6. Also got extension tubes. I think the image quality of my D3200 is super good haha, I dont make large prints anyway. I'd only want built in timelapse feature, a flippy screen and wifi would be nice i guess. Built in autofocus motor and more focus points is also nice, but my current one does the job quite well tbh. And yeah, spending about 1000 euros / dollars or more on a D7200 or the future D7300 is alot ! And I'm just a hobbyist.
      Wisht to do more tho.

    • @emilnilsson7991
      @emilnilsson7991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im also a hobbyist, my camera is excellent and since D3200 is newer it should be pretty good as well :) Instead of lusting after a AF motor in the camera I've kinda gone the opposite way and started using vintage glass, the charm of manual focus is that you start thinking more about how you see things through the lens, composition etc. You tend to slow down and think more about things.
      Nice lens collection btw. The 14mm 2.8 is it Samyang? I got the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. The 35mm 1.8 I use as standard lens these days :) Been thinking about getting a Tamron 300mm though.

    • @WahidFayumzadah
      @WahidFayumzadah 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emil Nilsson Haha! Funny how we are alike. The 35mm f1.8 is indeed a lens that I also use(d) on a daily basis. The 14mm f2.8 is a Samyang indeed haha. I was thinking about the Tokina 11-16 too, but it was like 1.7x more expensive for me and both would have been fine. I used to manual focus a lot too, with the Samyang 14mm it's pretty hard, unless the subject is far away and you go to infinity.
      I really love my Tamron 70-300, it's my first zoom lens / telephoto lens, and its sort of refreshing because I never had that much reach. I made a beautiful timelpase of the sun and clouds yesterday, zoomed in haha.

    • @emilnilsson7991
      @emilnilsson7991 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ultra wide lenses are difficult to focus with since everything is spaced out. Henche I choose the updated Tokina with built in AF motor, bought it second hand though. But the Samyang is very nice, it has some really cool optical aberrations that can make close up pictures look very interesting.
      I've felt the need for a 300mm lens for some years now but have never gotten around buying one, which is silly since they cost about 120€. Also, I really like the fast, silent & accurate AF motor in the 35mm 1.8 lens, such a pleasure to use :)

    I'm thinking of picking up a 7200, but knowing the 610 is so close in price, I'm having a hard time deciding. Is there a significant difference in image sharpness or low light performance?

    • @jcarr4892
      @jcarr4892 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a D7200 and D600 (same sensor and AF system as D610) and for image quality the D600 is visibly better, but not by a huge margin, particularly at low ISO. Once you start raising the ISO the D600 starts to pull away more noticeably, particularly once you go past around ISO 1000. In terms of sharpness I'd say the D7200 is a little sharper, but again not by a huge margin. For low light the D600 is definitely better in terms of image quality, but does struggle to auto-focus once it gets very dark (it's fine with low indoor lighting with a fast lens e.g. f1.8). The D7200 focuses well in very low light, with reasonable image quality. I use the D7200 for 'reach' and macro and the D600 for everything else (people, landscapes etc.).

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brotaku Media Group I'm not a fan of the D7200 just because it is at a weird place in the Quality/Pricing/practicity curve.
      The D5500 is close enough in quality and features to pick it if you have a tight budget or want to spend a little more on lenses (The articulated screen also makes your life A LOT easier for certain kinds of shot).
      The D610 is close enough in price to get it if you care more about the improved quality and more importantly the improved LENSE PERFORMANCE of a full frame camera.

  • @SSJ5VegetaV4
    @SSJ5VegetaV4 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I very much agree with this review. I shoot sports with my Nikon D7000 + Sigma 50-150mm F2.8. While in my opinion too many shots go out of focus, those who are sharp, are extremely good. So that's the dilemma. With the Canon you will get more accuracy, and hence less annoyance when you know you have captured a good frame, but the image quality is not up to par. However, at the same time, you will never get that perfect shot because the image quality at its best, is just no comparison for Nikon at its best.
    Realistically speaking, I perhaps differ in approach from usual sports photographers. I try to snap in singles, rather than burst mode. I still get hundreds of photos. Forcing yourself to be consequent like that with your shots, will make you way better at discovering the good time to take a shot. On the other hand, if you just fire away, you will never think about the motive, and could as well have brought a cam corder and just taken out frames from it...

      mike ellis Yeah, a ton, the D750 is about 225% cleaner. Plus, you get to use all full-frame lenses natively, which gives you much better sharpness. Watch this: th-cam.com/video/aJFgDEJTIiI/w-d-xo.html
      With that said, the D7200 is good enough for just about anybody.

    I tried a friend's Canon 6D but I really didn't like the AF system. Rather slow and the AF points seems to be in center.

    What lenses can be used tu get sharp images?
    I have d7200 and many different lenses up to 8
    But i have no pictures sharp enough. In general it looks sharp but withincreasingup to 100% it is not, just blur on the detail level

      First, which lens do you have (the sharpest, according to your thoughts), maybe those are not as sharp as you might think. I notice already pretty sharp images with 50mm 1.8, which to me it is fine for my style. Second, what do you shoot and how, landscape, street, using a tripod or hand held? Using a tripod is good to use remote shutter or delay shutter since the mirror vibration might reduce sharpness. Third, where you see image not sharp?, usually the best performance is in the center. AS you see there are many factors involved.

    I have a question. I'm using a D5200 for 5 years and I'm a serious amateur photographer. For some time I've been obsessed about getting a full frame but I'm now inclining towards D7200. I own 50nn f1.8, 85nn f1.8, 12-24nn f4 and plan to get 16-80nn. Would you recommend me to upgrade to Full Frame or I'm heading in the right direction with D7200? ny nain issues with D5200 is focusing and sharpness.

      If you still didn't upgrade I would suggest d7500.. There are lots of pros with d7500 when compared to D7200. Other than focus points, buffer and little improvement over iso I don't think there would be major change in image quality.
