Before I retired, in my reiki practice I developed this grounding meditation:
Walking barefoot in my back yard (when the weather allows) I say this prayer:
    “Roots deep, branches high,
Sky energy to Earth, Earth energy to Sky,
    Releasing, receiving, remembering am I.
    Roots deep, branches high,
Sky energy to Earth, Earth energy to Sky.”
As I say this prayer I see myself sending my roots deep into Mama Gaia - the earth - as my branches reach up to Source, connecting to the universe.
It’s similar to “as above, so below” that recognizes the interconnectedness of all things and the unity between the spiritual and the physical.

This is my form of grounding, and what helps me, because I have cerebral palsy, I'm not able to put my feet on the ground like most people. I have been in a wheelchair all of my life. What I do is I ask for the most benevolent outcome for our democracy, for Gaia, for the universe and everyone in it. I also believe that most extraterrestrials are benevolent and are our brothers and sisters from other planets, so I ask for the most benevolent outcome for them as well.

I deal with present moment awareness on a daily basis with disabled adults and children as a mobile mental health practitioner. Some of my strategies are, being in touch with the five senses, meditation, breathing exercises, nature walks and arts and crafts.
Living in the present moment is not selfish. I explain to my clients when they can live in the space in the middle of not worrying about the future and regretting the past it opens up the space for the divine to work on endless possibilities. Also, living in gratitude in the space is another way of being in the present moment. I hope this helps 😄

Hi Karen and community! Being present for me is hard to describe. I read something a long time ago about how when we worry or depressed, we are "looking back" into our brain to access feelings and memories. We are not connected to our prefrontal cortex. The suggestion was to push our focus forward to the front of our brains (I know this sounds weird). So, I tried it. It was like I literally popped into reality. I felt present immediately! Everything came into focus. My mood lifted. The day was brighter. I was looking outward instead of inward. I was fully connected with a beautiful day. I realized that it was up to me to stay there. I'm not telling anyone what to do - only what works for me. Have a grounded day!

You are so right Karen !! We mostly do what we were raised to do !! In my case i was raised in a very abusive home and all i wanted was to get away and be alone !! I was not an abuser , I lived my life doing what others expected of me and not doing what i wanted!! I wanted to be left alone in peace , to do what i wanted to do !! And I lived my life doing what others expected of me and what pleased others until i retired at age 67 !! I’m now 73 and will be 74 on 2/22 , I’ve lived doing what i’ve always wanted to since i retired and never been happier ! I live alone with. my fur baby and we do what we want to ! My neighbor and i converse and keep check on each other and i see my son when he gets the chance , due to long working hours !! But i love my 4 walls and yard , and i am at peace in my old age and bad health , with a terminal incurable disease but i’m at peace and not afraid of dying when my time comes , I just ask spirit to comfort me as I pass over !! I do pray that our country is put back on the right coarse and everyone has a beautiful life !! I don’t know if i’m present or not but i’m at peace in my heart , because I’ve realized I can not change the things going on in our government , so we all must live the best life we can with what is put in our path!! I only realized this about about accepting the government problems a couple of weeks ago ! But other than that my life has been peaceful for the past few years !! ❤️🙏🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

A recent Spirituality with Sam channeling made me realize that the Universe just wants us to ‘play together nice’, stop blaming/judging and reach out with loving acts of kindness. Otherwise the Universe will keep presenting more chances to do right.
I still have confidence in the desired outcome, but we might have had it earlier if we had been kinder to the other side. I realized I had put all the blame on the other side when we are all responsible.
I’m focusing on staying grounded in my stillness and neutral as I approach my 80th year.

I think I heard the same video of hers - last night? Or maybe she repeats ideas sometimes - I only just "found" her channel.
The same message has come to me in a variety of ways over the past couple weeks. My favorite was a couple who were asked about how they talk to people with differing views. They don't talk about the difference, the ask the other person what they love about whatever it is. That focus on love helps the couple stay in their vibration while showing care to whoever they're speaking to. It's made me rethink HOW to talk to people I know I don't agree with on important issues (like a raspberry family member).

I don’t feel like ‘being present’ necessarily means only attending to what’s in our immediate physical surroundings. For me, being aware of what’s happening in our country and around the world also feels present and important. But viewing it all from a higher perspective is also important, and not just riding the rollercoaster of chaos.

I first learned how to be present from Eckhart Tolle's book's, "A New Earth." It was Oprah's book club selection back in 2007. The first chapter was easy, but the difficulty of the second chapter blew my mind. Thankfully she and Eckhart discussed each chapter; those discussions are probably still available on her site.
Within the past couple of weeks she announced that it would be her book club selection again. It's the first time she's chosen a book for a second time. I haven't been able to locate my book, but I'm pretty sure it's still here, and that I didn't donate it. It's a book I've reread a few times. Once the book comes to light, I'm going reread while following along with the new discussions.

Yes! Life is so much better when we can live attuned to loving guidance. Eckhart Tolle says that presence is "when what you are doing is not primarily a means to an end (money, prestige, winning) but fulfilling in itself, when there is joy and aliveness in what you do." I think that's a pretty good way to know if you're on the right track. As far as a grounding exercise goes, you can meditate on the root chakra at the base of the spine, feel yourself as a boulder in a river unmoved by the swirling waters, and repeat an affirmation like "I am firm, safe, and grounded." After the grounding bring the energy up the spine to the third eye.

The religion I grew up with definitely taught me fear and guilt. It didn’t allow me to be in the present moment because I was constantly measuring my past behavior, making sure I was keeping the rules. It also taught me to think “us vs them.” If you didn’t think like my church taught me to think, then you were wrong, outside the circle of true believers that God loved. Clearing that kind of brainwashing and indoctrination is challenging. Meditation and working with the angels and my soul family (includes SGs) has made a big difference.

The trick is to "get yourself out of the way" & let God direct when to act, when to be silent, when to step up, step aside etc. To achieve this state of mind is a process. A process we are all undertaking in our own way & time. "The curriculum is highly individualised" as ACIM states. I trust this has been helpful. Thank you, Karen. And just like we are OK in this very moment, that is where we will be in every future moment. Be in the now every moment for peace. 🙏🏻☮️💜

Love your coaching on this Karen! People do need to learn that our perspective is ours, and isn't necessarily the best way for others. I went to a church h that was black and white in thinking, that told us you are a sinner if you do x y or z, period. Then I learned from a different church, the leader said, I am pointing a way for you to look at for yourself, not giving you the only way. That was so new to me. And it also meant that I get to decide what resonates. It was beautiful, thank you. I believe we all have gifts to share with one another, and we need to be who we are uniquely, in order to share what we came here to share. When we have to conform to other people's beliefs or rules, it takes us away from our unique beautiful self.

Being present its about not thinking about the past all the time or what if ing about the future. Being grounded helps with not getting lost in ur mind. Thoughts create alot of fear of the future or feeling regrets of the past. Or what u dont have or what u think u need To be happy. Most people live this way it seems. i was one and its still hard to be present at times but everything gets easyer as u choose that. Self love helps alot and accepting ur self and ur own flaws. Sometimes ur thoughts of the past keep coming up cause it needs healing or letting go. Shadow work comes up whether u want it or not

I never heard anything from my friends either. But when I went to work at a Catholic educational institution when I was in my late thirties , I was questioned a thousand times. Lots of “shoulds” and lots of “saddness” that I would have a “lonely” old age. At 70, I can still say it was the best decision for us that we ever made! And I know where loneliness comes from. ME. I have never in my life felt lonely although I spent a lot of time alone.

Being in the present moment is how I got through depression….stand, what do I hear, what do I smell etc…check in with our 5 senses to start with. Depression cannot survive being in the present because it’s about being in the past (regret)or the future(worry, despair). Children are in the present. It didn’t mean that depression stayed away but it gave me enough relief to be able to work on healing.

Someone asked Abraham “how can I stay in the moments when so many are suffering?” They replied “ Keep your attention on the suffering of others, and you will join them”. Focusing on the problems of the world or others definitely doesn’t help them or you. Be grateful that we know everything will be okay, and stay focused on things that feel good! 💯 only think of the happiness of solutions -we all will be guided to what the solution is!

Present moment---it is about focusing on what is going on in the moment. Our minds like to take us to the past or the future......We tend to live in mostly in fear if we live in the past and the present. The events are like a reel that keeps rolling with events that happened in the past. This is not serving you or anybody else. The question of how can I help? Focus on yourself. letting go of negative thoughts that keep playing in your mind. When we let go of the negative we can shine our light brighter. Some people can physically help others not.

I woke up with a wicked headache this morning and my first thought was,... "If that's the Universe downloading information, please be a little more gentle!" 😜 So I was crabby when I got up and decided to do some meditation and then pulled a couple cards. First one was The Observer from the Wisdom Oracle deck, and the second was the Fruit Bearer from the 7 Energies Oracle deck. Both spoke VOLUMES to me and my headache lifted. I then used a new app I downloaded to identify most of my crystals and several rocks I've picked up over the years on my travels, and I was amazed at how many were for protection, enhancing spiritual/intuitive growth, and releasing negative energy! I always have just grabbed what appealed to me. Since these activities I'm feeling SO much more grounded and relaxed. The sun came out so I'm recharging my stones and cards, and doing what I can to keep myself focused on other things and not concerning myself with what's to come. Even though there is some fear about things, I am human after all,... I feel much better with our chances once Kamala is in office!! Peace be with us all! 🙏💜💙

I love that you said staying grounded, staying present, and trying to help. As an empath who feels others' pain in a very visceral way, these three things help me immensely, and to be honest, allow me to help the world around me more. Grounding for me looks like reminding myself that the vast majority of people on our planet do not intentionally harm others or wish others harm - the very small minority that do just happen to be the loudest and in our face with the things they do. Grounding for me also looks like imagining myself, my loved ones, my community, other people, etc. shielded - it can be a spiritual version shielding, a kind of shielding based in psychology and learned in therapy, or just imagining a big bubble of protection. For me, being present means choosing to give my attention to the people immediately around me, rather than allowing things that I feel as an empath around world events to overwhelm me and ultimately distance me from everyone, and especially those near me that could use my attention and/or help. And finally, I find a way to help. That can mean things like donating to a cause, like the LA fires, or signing a petition, but it can also mean shoveling my neighbor's sidewalk when it snows so they don't have to, paying for a stranger's lunch, calling a friend I know is also an empath and making them laugh. None of those things are checking out. If anything, they mean engaging more.

My grounding method is by meditation, chakra alignment-sending roots from root chakra down into Mother Earth. align chakras, I work up from root to crown. picture negative energy flowing out into the ground! (She can handle it) picture bright white light from heaven come down into crown chakra and down. State intention of staying in the light today-ask SG for help and guidance-Protect from negative energy, then lastly pull any energy you need up from the earth as you take up your roots. and because of the Golden Future book, I’m working on being filled with a golden light. Close my aura to all that isn’t the light. I’m having to work harder than usual on the letting things go part!

You hold the light when you laugh, when you cry with someone, and when you shared this story.
I think it is Tolle who says we are not the voice in our head, we are the observation of that voice. When you are ready, you can tell that voice saying "you never . . . " you can tell that voice "I hold the light, and I always will!" Your light is shining brightly! 💖

Hey all… on presence and being in the moment … I have found that I am more helpful to others when I am present … most people are living in the past or future . They are worried about what’s coming or feel grief over what was .
Being mindful and staying present is the best way to care for yourself and lift others up ❤

I spent way to many years being a "people pleaser"; job, family, husband, kids. I never said no to anyone. Whatever it was I did it because I thought I should, even when deep down inside I did not want to. It took me 62 years to figure figure out that I had spent my whole life being selfish to myself. I retired at 62, and now I do exact what I want to do when I want to do it. If I do not want to do something, I just say no. I have come to know and appreciate me for who I am and not what others think I should be. I have never been happier.

LOL, Spirit and I have been conversing about this very stuff a LOT the last few days! It’s hilarious that here you are, Karen, talking about this very thing this morning! 😂. Spirit/God/Source definitely has a sense of humor! Anyway: what I’ve been doing lately is something I learned recently from RJ Spina: a couple of procedures to still the mind, that have been working beautifully for me: 1: Pretend that you just got here. No past, no present. You are just here. (When I do this, my mind goes completely blank and silent for a while.). 2: Notice a thought or feeling I’m having, and ask myself, “Who is thinking that thought/feeling that feeling?” The answer is always, “I am.” Next question: “Who am I?” The mind can’t really answer that one either, and goes silent for a while. Doing these help me connect with my true essence, the golden light being/emanation from the Field/God/Conscjiousness, and live in that beingness for a while. It’s Lovely! 😍 Karen, Dear One, you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about the “shoulding” yourself, and actually living from your true desires and wants, and living/acting out of your true essence. BRAVO!!!!! 😄🤩👍🥳💞. When we do that, Divinity is truly walking on earth in human form!

From my understanding of being present in the moment is not to dwell on the past, even what happened a day before concentrate on the moment that you are living at, you can’t change the past and you can’t control the future so only concentrate on the time being meaning the present time😊 this is my understanding of being present. I hope this helps.🥰

I think grounding can happen anytime, anywhere, whatever hits you the most. Some of my favorites are walking in the woods, on the beach…in nature and just looking around at everything I see, the bark on the trees, the sparkle on the water, i.e., noticing the details and just marveling at the creation of everything. My absolute favorite is my garden. I grow everything from seed and watch how from the tiniest of seeds the most perfect patterns and beauty are created, whether it be a vegetable , herb, or flower. The transformation always humbles me and helps ground me. 🥰

Good morning. I appreciated your comment yesterday about if we did not have all of the technology of today, what would we know about all that’s going on all over the world. Like turning everything off…I grew up in a small town in Montana and mostly learned of current events by the 1/2 hour of evening news and a weekly paper. When ‘bad’ things happened locally , we all pitched in to help. We lived more in the present moment without all of the distractions of today. I am glad I grew up with that experience because it helps me tap in to the present moment experience now…I have a memory of it.
This may not be helpful to anyone but, just a share.
    Thank you for being there.

You are so funny! We are all becoming fully ourselves, autonomous, owning our personal power. In our life, when we encounter other's demands or negative self talk in the form of "you should", " you must, "you have to", " you have no choice ", STOP and ask yourself, " Who says?" "What's the evidence?"

Being focused on the now has been very liberating for me. I have gun to pray/meditate and ask God/Source, Jesus, the hosts of Angels and Spirit Guides to lead me through each moment of each day to direct me to my higher self. I ask them to shield me from the chaos of this life with love and allow me to cast my love to everyone and everything. I say this constantly throughout each day. Hope this practice may help you. Love, peace and joy to all. 😊

I find living in the moment VERY necessary for my busy ADHD mind. It's very centering and calming, but at times, it can be challenging. But I've come to see that there's no use ruminating about the past...it's gone and can't be changed. And there's no use getting worked up about the future because it's in the future and not happening right now. So.....the only thing I really have is the present moment. Thanks ,Karen....click/clink!!

For me being present means being engaged and aware of what I am doing, observing nature when walking my dog etc. It is not easy for me to do all the time. I meditate daily but I just recently learned that 15 minute ones are not long enough for me to get benefit. It takes me at least that long to slow the stream of thoughts running through my head.

You are correct about living in the present moment. When we think about it all of our worry comes from what will happen in the future for ourselves or our loved ones. We also hold on to past grievances from a wrong that was done to us or we worry about something we may have done in the past. It is time to let those things go. That is why forgiveness is so important. It is something we do for ourselves. We need to not only forgive others but we need to forgive ourselves for things we feel we did wrong. Once we truly forgive those feelings and emotions are washed away and we can feel the peace and calm that we desire.

I agree that by my being present in the moment this helps those around me. We show or teach others by our own example.
For me to be in the present moment, awareness is key: awareness of my surroundings, awareness of my thoughts, awareness of my actions, and being fully present and really listening to those around me, and observing my surroundings with interest.
I love to ground by taking off my shoes and walking on grass or the beach.
