TIP I buy the chunky embossing powder to save money, I put it through an electric spice grinder to make it finer and it makes about 4-5 bottles for WAY less than you'd pay to buy 4-5 bottles.

just make sure you dont use the grinder for food after use with the embossing powder, I bought one for like 20.00 just for this purpose.@@marypolancodesigns

@@marypolancodesigns I seriously love all of your videos! So I have a question that maybe you could help me with… Often times when I see people make flowers out of DIECUTS, they have something that looks like sand sprinkled on the flowers. I’ve tried this with craft sand, but it doesn’t produce the same effect. Any idea how card makers get their flowers to look realistic enough that they have specs of sand on them?

I remember when Suze Weinberg first brought out UTEE (Ultra thick embossing enamel). Other techniques with those chunky EPs include making a raised aperture with multiple layers of cardstock glued onto background and melting the EP in center like enameled jewelry or stained glass. Also using an inked stamp to make an impression on the warm melted EP (like a wax seal) or embedding glitter or small ephemera in the EP. Will have to pull out my stash and play again!

That foam edger that has the hair on it that you just used to clean your stamp, is perfect for gessoing canvases especially if you're doing several of them at a time.

One way that I like to do the bokeh effect is ink my background & with my circle template I made on my Scan and Cut, is to add the circles (Bokeh) with very light colours as in white, very pale greys, yellow, pinks, blues etc. A tip is when adding the Bokeh start with a very light blend, as you can add a little more if you want it darker.
As always it's a case of playing with it and finding how dark or light & what colours you want your Bokeh effect to be. I've done it with circles, stars & hearts.
    P. S: Whenever I make templates or stencils with my Scan N Cut, I just run a sheet of laminating film through the laminator without any paper in it. It's never failed me & saves a lot of money!.

Happy morning coffee! I would do detail on the little village (never do anything easy for me) 🤣🙃. Usually, when I have done Brokeh I use circle stencils & circle cut outs. Use just the white pigment with blending brushes "faintly" around edges on an already ink-blended background. Comes out looking like bubbles when highlights are put on with a white paint pen. That's just me though :) Thanks for the great hacks!!

You can use a pencil eraser to stamp even smaller circles for your bokeh effect. I’m going to use the tape trick-it drives me crazy when I can’t find the carrier sheet in my mess. On a related note I put a sticker on the cover sheet of the sticky mat I keep in my Misti so I can find it.

I love to make a cracked finish by using the thick embossing powder and then bending the image a little. You can somewhat control the cracks by the number and amount of bend used. Don’t like it ? Reheat and it’s back to glossy smooth.

Mary, I forget if you're the one I told about taping the stamp backer sheet to the front one, but I've been doing that for a long time. I have begun to add a piece of packing tape running the other direction over each end of the hinge piece, as I've found that the first piece that runs parallel to the top of the stamp sheet can split if I get a bit, erm, aggressive in pulling the backer sheet away from my stamps. Kind of like opening a box that's been taped - the tape will split parallel to its long edge, but not tear going across the short way. Does that even make any sense? :) Also, if the stamp set is small enough - 4x6" or smaller - I can just put 2 small pieces of tape with the uncut edge perpendicular to the top of the sheet, 1 on each side, & it covers just fine without having to run another piece long-ways. Seriously, I feel like I'm making no sense at all, but it's hard to put into words what I know exactly how to do. LOL There are a few companies - I know Lawn Fawn is one - that do pre-tape their stamp backers to the front sheet. Bless them for saving us time & hassle! At any rate, thank you for showing these techniques. I don't think I ever thought about the silhouette one. It's funny that you showed the one with the ultra-thick embossing powder, though. I actually had a challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com for their Dare to Get Dirty event this last summer, making faux glass tiles with patterned paper, frames made with layers of cardstock to hold the powder over the paper (no embossing ink used), & the ultra thick powder. The samples I made to illustrate the technique (minus one that I messed up) actually came out really well, if I do say so myself! I actually heated mine from underneath to keep the granules from blowing away before they melted enough to stick. I didn't make that technique up, though. I think I'd seen Natasha Foote do it first, though I'm not sure if she's the first one ever to do it. Anyway, it was fun! Well, I've babbled on long enough. Hope y'all are doing well & enjoying the Fall weather. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)
