After making loads of clay cracking videos lately I wondered whether it's possible to achieve the same effect without using nail polish. So I tried testing out some things which have similar properties here! These are all for "smooth" clay cracking. There's a different type of clay popping using a thick plaster shell which I'll be trying in a future video!

You could try a thin coat of resin
Sofifi would be more expensive but sure why not lmao
bloody fingers....
I was gonna comment the same thing! Lol
Well, you could wait for it to cool a bit before actually applying it, but that is also something that has to be done in a well-ventilated environment due to noxious fumes. You also want to be very careful with it, as it is a pretty good exothermic reaction that produces heat upwards of 150 degrees (Fahrenheit, I believe, but might be Celcius. BobbyDukeArts measured his, but I can't remember off the top of my head. Still hot enought to hurt.)
Sofifi I was about to say that but I guess u said it first...
What about a spray-on glaze? That would give you the ease of applying that you got with the hair spray, but should give a similar hardness to nail polish.
I was just about to say something similar! A cheap glossy art varnish would likely work as well. I have a gloss varnish from the brand Francheville that dries very hard and crackly and there's very little odour.
Smart!
I thought that too! Love the cracking
+
Spray on nail-polish....??
Dip the clay in melted wax
Yeah
@✯𑁍gacha_tube❤︎
It depends on the wax you're using. Soy wax doesn't work for cracking, btw.
That's my line
@✯𑁍gacha_tube❤︎ paraffin wax works
@✯𑁍gacha_tube❤︎ you should melt the wax then let it harden in the freezer
For all those commenting about "I can't stand the smell of nail polish" she actually said that the fumes are really strong and she has to apply 5 - 6 coats so she inhales the fumes for quite sometime which is definitely not good for her.

What about dipping the clay in sugar syrup? Like for making hard candy.
wouldn't it make it super hard
Ashton Zambucka True, maybe a thin layer? Or not dipping it, and just coating it.?
Sugar can become very sharp also so ypu wouldnt want to get cut.
Lissy it wouldnt work it would just melt unless its food

@Vipul Jain I don’t exactly consider pink as a part of the rainbow but we all have our opinions.
you should try gel nail polish!!! it has little to no fumes! it also dries very quickly
isnt gel polish really hard to get off even on nails?
@@leche2905 wait why does it need to come off? it's going on the clay

I’m 10 with an iPhone 7+ that has a sparkly gold case. I’m different :(
Maybe try painting melted sugar onto the surface so that when it dries hard, it'll make a crack sound 🍬
Erika Lam good idea!
Wouldn’t it be sticky, though?
Ooo that would be really cool! But it might melt the clay entirely, but that would be satisfying too, yet a bit dangerous
Oh true
I could be wrong but melted sugar would be very hot and dangerous and dries fast so you can’t wait for it to cool down plus it would be sticky
Her main criteria for choosing alternatives to test was "looks shiny and transparent when it dries" instead of "forms a non-porous hard shell when it dries." It's weird. Just because it looks like topcoat doesn't mean it'll behave the same way. You don't even have to use topcoat. In a previous video she tested out a colored matte nail polish which also worked.

Hi there. I really enjoyed finding out about cracking clay...never heard of it before today.
I thought of a few things you might like to try.
• Clear Gesso (A generous couple of coats, left to dry)
• Yacht Varnish (you might have to try different numbers of layers of this).
• Liquid Skin (again, perhaps try this in thin, then thicker layers).
• Hairspray Firm control, (This sets quite hard but you will need to use lots of layers)
• Super Glue (Use carefully & in different numbers of layers)
• Resin (in a thin, then thicker layer)
• Clear Gel Nail Polish.
• Mens Hair Gel.
That's all of the ideas I have for things to try. I hope one of those things works. All the best with your future videos!
From a new fan in South Wales. UK.
Yah
Sushi Ranasinha she writes all that and she’s get a yah? 😂😂
Maybe instant glue would work better, and in less layers
@@cristi4n.anderson That's a good idea too. 😁
I also thought of MOD PODGE. That creates a coating that seals things in. Of all the suggestions I made previously, I think this one is by far the best one, because it is meant to be used to seal things, like art work etc. It's super good as a glue/sealer. I can't think of any others.

@@graceknight1103 There goes my biggest fear when posting this comment: I was wrong
i think water based wood varnish would work nicely! i use it to glaze my clay charms, they come out nicely too.
maybe cured UV resin would work but a thinnnn layer.
What about using a thin layer of slime so it can dry out and crack
@KawaiiDIY probably I not sure I thought that because it dries harder it would work
Idk if I'd crack?
Genessie Ellie ;-:
But when you’re done what do you do with the clay? Do you throw it away or reuse it?
I love crunchy stuff so some of the sounds were really amazing and nice love it.
You should try out clear mod podge and a glossy varnish next time. I think those could work!
Mod podge isn't any different than PVA glue.
@@pchypie8801 When Mod Podge dries, it's waterproof, PVA glue isn't.
@@carmenbarrera9878 Different grades of PVA. mod podge is PVA glue.
@@pchypie8801 Actually no, it's not. It has similar ingredients, but has more ingredients than makes it a sealer, glue, varnish, and is waterproof. Pva glue is only a glue. I wouldn't use it to seal anything permanently, it wouldn't work.

Looks like that “new” clay cracking method is paste that is usually used in those floral foam crushing videos

Isn’t plaster used some times for clay cracking?
Yes. She mentioned it, but this video was made when that was still very new.
Ok I just have to say your voice is soooooo calming
Have you tried dipping the clay into the polish so you don't have to stay in the fumes long? I think using a brush wastes a lot of time
Alot of nail polish spilled like that would give me a migraine the fumes would be way worse
That's what toilisa tosell does
You should try frozen paint mixing it seems so satisfying!
Here’s a timestamp for people here for the clay cracking 5:36
(Question) can u use the clay again to make a clay cracking after cracking it?
Perhaps try a spray-on clear coat? Think more in the range of things that are meant to be long lasting/heavy duty sealants
" i can't stand the smell of nail polish"
Polish on fingers: Am I a joke to you?
it’s not fresh, so the scent (hopefully) doesn’t linger
It ( the smell ) only works for wet nail polish. When it’s dry, it’s fine especially after u wash it.

@@Souperdouperkewl it’s still toxic.
Not all nails have the polish. I have mine painted because my parents own a salon for a year now. So I get my nails painted for free.
