Was surprised they let you back in the river, lol. They were cool about it. I can understand why they pulled you out of the ferry lanes. Those things go quick and you'd be fish food if one didn't see you in time.
They actually brought the boat in closer than I thought they would, as for the ferry / speed boats, I was ready to dive deep, I can hold my breath for 2 minutes
I remember seeing kids swimming way north of there many years ago. Glad the police helped you out. Guess the currents are similar to the Hudson. Awesome vid. I have to check that area out san the swim.😉
When's the next alleycat Triathlon? You already got running in the Le mans style standing starts (potential for parkour though), Why not some no-fucks-given swimming? 🤣
The East River has a tide that rises and sets because it is half fresh water and half saltwater. The Hudson River is all fresh water and flows into the NY Harbor. The East River connects from the harbor to the Long Island Sound (past Roosevelt Island then Riker's Island, etc). Then the Long Island Sound dumps back into the ocean.
Fact: there was no less than at least 1 shark near him the entire time. Idk about sharks/accidental human killers, but if I randomly saw someone I didn't know in my house, adrenaline would kick in and things would get physical and bloody at the bare minimum.
dude i wouldnt be scared of swimming i have the worse fear is just the ocean im from nyc and the water is green and i could barely see anything from my pov ur a warrior for going in that scary water
Hell yeah Lucas!!! This was awesome 👏 let me ask you something, serious question!! Why live so free spirited at your young age? Or better yet the question is why do we stop living like you after we reach a certain age. Again awesome video bro. So motivational thanks for this brother man
so this is something you dont see everyday, but it is something i thought about today and thanks to the wonderfull world of youtube, and those crazy youtubers, i get to see something ive always wanted to see.. someone swimming in the east river. Now.. for many of you, You may think whats the issue?. Well.. The east river is DANGEROUS. its legendary in that people that attempt to swim in it die, due to the strong currents and under tow. And i mean. people who jump who are not professional swimmers quickly find themsleves in waters thats very different than what it appears on the surface. Its violent and fact. and often their is no fighting where it will take you which is often out into the greater hudson river which is even more powerful and more violent. NY waters in general are not to be toyed with. These are real rivers, powerful rivers. and not forgiving to those who are ill equipped to travers. And to make matters worse... shipping lanes.
When I was like 18, friends and I fished from the Whitestone Bridge stancheon (Bronx side). My lure snapped off on a cast, and I had to climb down the ladder and swim a good bit into the river to eventually retrieve it. I was not a strong swimmer at all! It was not a smart move. I made it back to shore exhausted and could really feel that current. My fishing was done that day 🫤
I live by the East river, and have my whole life. I was always warned that the current is extremely dangerous and many people have died attempting what you did.
Good thing the NYPD showed up. I think you may have been fighting too much with the fast current. You could have been swept out into NY Harbor, not before becoming too exhausted in the process!
That is a powerful southward current on the East River. I hope you weren't fined when the Coast Guard picked you up. You are an amazingly powerful swimmer to get as far as you did -- more than half across the East River.
@@lucasbrunelle Thanks so much Lucas. You are world class swimmer to survive the East River. For the 1964-65 World's Fair, someone swam around Manhattan, I believe, but timed the Hellsgate for when conditions would be safest. I attended Xavier in Manhattan and for our Spring Holiday would take old liner around Manhattan. I think it must been near Hellsgate where someplaces the surface appeared more roiled than usual, and other places there were areas where the surface seemed perfectly calm. Someone told me that it was especially to try to swim through those deceptively calm areas. I was only 14 or 15 so what I was being told could have been bs. Take care and inspire with your daring swims. By the way, I lived in Erie PA, for a while and a friend of mine when young swam 9 miles with the goal of reaching Long Point in Ontario, Canada. Unfortunately, she did not reach her goal. She explained that her body was greased before her swim to retain body heat.
@@johngolden891 Water can look calm on the surface but undercurrents can create hella problems, I've saved people from those very conditions. I do love swimming and can swim anywhere in the world
Lucas have you ever had a GoPro fail due to water damage? Boat tour through the river: $28
Lucas: I´ll do it for free on the NYPD boat.
Legend has it if you swim in the East River you don’t need the vaccine
Lucas cleansed the water during this voyage. The East River is now clean to drink from.
After watching the Seinfeld episode of Kramer swimming in the East River, now Im here to see it in real life.

Not as polluted as it was in past years, still gnarly, about half a mile
