Great review of a really fun game. When my son was a little younger and I could get him to play games with me, this was always one of his favorites. I miss those times.
Dungeon Fighters is amazing option to put on the table with people that don't usually play board games. Oh, kids grow up so quick, but we hope you get to play more games with your kiddo soon enough!

I own Dungeon Fighter in the Chambers of Malevolent Magma. It has different quirky d8 dices, new stuff to put on the target field as difficulty multiplier. Looks more complex and challenging then base version. My colleagues loved it a lot. This game isn't for all, but a lot of fun especially in the bar :)
First time I put this on table (in theory) and the dice flies off bouncing all over the place except the board 5 times in a row, that's when everyone around the table would do a concealed SIGHHHH claiming "oh I'm just tired" and the fun died right there. I don't know who on Earth would pay for this.
There's no expansions listen on BGG for the 2nd edition. Is that for the 1st you're talking about? Are they compatible? Edit: Nvm, found the ones you're talking about. Kinda weird they aren't listed on BGG as such, but they aren't listed as expansions, just different versions.

Do you think it would be fairly easy to mod the game to be simpler for younger kids? Any thoughts on how to do it?
Why not put bumpers around the edge of the board like on a bowling alley.
