- Oregon Coast ROAD TRIP- Seattle to San Francisco on the 101 - Part 1 Pike Place Market, Fort Stevens State Park, Cannon Beach
Bucket List Road Trip on the 101 in Oregon
We took the 101 from Seattle south the full length of Oregon and didn't even make it half way before deciding everyone needed to make this a bucket list road trip in their lives!
Our trip started at Pike Place Market in Seattle where we ate at daily dozen donuts, checked out Pike Place Fish Market, the Original Starbucks and Pike Place Chowder. Then it was time to head south!
We spent 2 days to go from Astoria, Oregon to the California State Line. We stopped in Astoria to go to the Goonies house and eat at Astoria Brewing, checked out Cannon Beach also in the Goonies. Then stoped at many of the Oregon Costa State Parks along the 101.
We had dinner in Newport Oregon at the Original Mo's Seafood before calling it a night. The next day started with lunch at Wilson's Market in Bandon Oregon before checking out the Bandon Lighthouse- Coquille River Lighthouse.
We stopped at Face Rock and walked through the large rock to a private back and then our favorite stop was at Arch Rock. Fog rolled in by the time we reached Arch Rock and the magic of the Oregon Coast took over.
Part one of our Oregon Coast Road Trip ended at Redwoods National Park. We checked out the park before heading to Crater Lake which will be in part two. We loved this Oregon Coast drive and think there is no better way to see the Pacific North West!

My goal for 2021 is to visit every National Park in the United States. I'm starting by converting a cargo van into a place to live on the road. Follow along as I take on #vanlife and raod trip across the US.
In early 2020 I quit my job to travel full time. I started a blog as a way to share the story of my journey and aspirations as a solo female traveler. Check it out at lauraonthemove.com

Courtney likes PB on her pancakes, me too!
Every time!
I love your music, I love the food, I love your joy. Carry on.
That brings a big smile to my face! Thank you!
You gave me new ideas and spots to visit when I go this year. Can’t get enough of the Oregon coast.
It’s easily on the top destinations in the country list!!
Thank you for this video, very helpful for my upcoming trip.
It's such a beautiful area of the country! I hope you have a great time!!
We found (especially) on road trips that googling for reviews of restaurants was the only way to go. Good job, gals!
This spring we’re heading up the coast from San Francisco to Seattle, then over to CO. Can’t wait (although we’re not camping).
It’s going to be so pretty in the spring!! We found all of the state parks to be great but you have to stop at the Arch Rock overlook!!
I really enjoyed this trip, I will be going doing this coastal trip soon. Thank you for all the great places to look out for
SO many stops along the coast for a great view! It seemed like the southern Oregon coast had the best viewpoints and central coast had the best towns to stop in but it was all pretty great!
So many good memories of the coast growing up. Next chance you get in Depoe Bay, grab some Ainslees salt water taffy!
Thanks!! I’ll add that to the list for next time!
Great video
Thanks!!
beautiful drive on the coastline. Love all those rocks...you guys had some good food on the way. :)
We planned our days based on the next food stop… and then totally failed at Redwoods and didn’t have breakfast or lunch so it balanced out 😅
@@LauraOnTheMove lol
Beautiful video, we are heading to the Oregon coast next month. Maybe it's just me, but I would have liked more specific location, nearest City at least, of each emblematic stop. Thank you
There are a few towns along the way, but not a lot of landmarks. It's also a strait shot, so no chance to take a wrong turn. There are many stops that we had to skip for time. All of the places marked state parks along the drive are great places to check out!
Putting on check list to visit market when I go to Seattle next year. Fresh donuts are so good. I only got good fresh donuts in Philly downtown market. Not so much in Akron Ohio. It's probably my expectations of food in Akron Ohio is not great.
Classic Goonies movie.
That camping site looks real clean. That's pretty good being in the woods.
The Pacific Ocean looks so beautiful.
That fire smoke is crazy.
It was perfect to visit the market for a day before heading to the coast! I expect all of the Oregon State Park campgrounds are similar and would highly recommend but the water on the coast is very cold! Unfortunately more smoke to come...
I love the Oregon coast. My sister lives in Seaside, just south of Astoria. Also in Astoria (if you head back up that way) is the elementary school from Kindergarten Cop LOL. If you go back to Seattle, be sure to hit up the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum and the Museum of Pop Culture right next to the Space Needle. Lots of fun things to do in Seattle.
I’ll be back for sure! The garden and space needle were next on our list but we got sucked into the market which was also very fun! The coast is beautiful it would be an amazing place to live!
I remember Courtney in some of your other videos, but I forget if you're related or friends.
She’s my girlfriend 🤗 her job requires her to be home most of the time but it’s always great when she joins me on one of the trips!!
Damn the ...
Hello from Canada! We're about to go explore the Oregon / California coast in a few weeks and your video is great for planning, thanks so much for sharing! I'm not sure if you still reply to comments but can I ask what time of year your travelled? Also @ 10:10 time stamp, you have these big oversized plate/bowls, this is what we've been trying to find for a while now! What are they called, where did you find them please? Thanks so much and happy travels!
I love these plates! I found them at a discount store, but I think these are similar: amzn.to/47ll8ro I hope you have a great trip! The picture we took at Arch Rock is framed on our wall and is still one of the top 5 vies I've seen across the country. I would say it's a trip of a lifetime, but I always hope people get the chance to see these views more than once!!
Do you think you could drive from Portland OR to Los Angeles CA in 8 days? Would you be able to see sights and not feel crazy rushed? Flying in and just trying to decide where to start coastal drive.
Yes, that is plenty of time to see some amazing things. You’ll just have to prioritize what you want to see. I would recommend a new destination every other day. That way you can spend a day somewhere then the next day driving to the next spot. You’ll just have the hard task of picking the most important stops for you!
@@LauraOnTheMove thank you
Hey, beautiful video!
I just wanna ask if you always slept on a campsite or did you do free camping too? Did you guys feel safe all the time? Because me and my gf gonna travel up the west coast from San Francisco to Seattle and we are kinda worried that something is gonna happen to us if we don’t sleep on camping sites. What would you recommend? Thanks a lot in advance :)
We did some wild camping. If you’re going from San Francisco north to Seattle there was a beautiful spot just south of crescent city, California. But we also stayed at a Home Depot, and a Walmart which just isn’t as fun for a road trip, so I would recommend getting camp grounds where you can. I use the iOverlander app to look for wild camping spots. It has reviews and you can see the date when people stayed plus it’s free! I found that area to be hardest to wild camp because there or so many people living in their campers that companies shut down staying in parking lots. It’s such a beautiful drive! I think almost all of the Oregon state parks are free so don’t hesitate to stop at a bunch!
ALSO be sure to check the 101 closure near crescent city. You can google it but they close the road for a few hours every day to work on a rock slide. We had no idea! But it’s something to plan for!
Did you rent the van or do you own it?
I owned it. I think renting is a great plan too, but it was nice to own it so I could do what I wanted inside
What’s the name of the Clam Chowder shop in Seattle
Pike place chowder 👍🏻
I'm always gonna associate Astoriah with Kindergarten Cop. Yes, you did read that in Ahnuld's accent.
I love that movie!!
