- An old man reminisces about his childhood and how happy he was when he got a kind of a Mickey Mouse for Christmas. In fact, he still finds the mouse somewhere in the depths of his attic. But after a breakdown, the old man suddenly has to go to a retirement home. And with that the dark sides of his childhood emerge. It's good that he had the toy mouse back then that could comfort and save him. Does the little toy still have this power after so many years?
It's funny: the longer I make these little films, the more time it takes for me to be somewhat satisfied. That's why my gaps between films are getting longer and longer - and to be honest, it's often taking longer before I am satisfied with the story I want to tell.
Often it's current things that move me, or it's just an idea - but sometimes - like now - it's things that I observe and experience for a long time - and then suddenly I feel the need to turn it into a little story . I have actually been going to a retirement home regularly for over twenty years to visit a long-time friend.
I have seen - and still see - so many fantastic geriatric nurses - and I take my hat off to the great things they do every day.
Apart from that since then I also have experienced so many different fates of old people and try to imagine what it is like to suddenly give up your house or apartment.
And I wanted to tell the story from the old man's perspective. And he can't come to terms with suddenly being in a retirement home and he also can't cope with the fact that he's dependent on outside help. HE refuses wherever he can - possibly because it reminds him of his childhood experiences.
“You carry your whole life within you, no matter how old you are,” a 90-year-old woman once wrote, and she also described how she actually feels much younger. A friend of the same age once told me that life is a circle. I thought something similar about my protagonist, who, then and now, just wants to be free.
I am thankful for blenderkit and blendswap where I find enough objects which I can you use for my purpose. The old man I took from MakeHuman and changed it for my purpose.
I am thankful to all the free music and sounds which are from professional musicians.
This time I found music and sounds by pixaby and as well on TH-cam audio.
The musicians are:
Julius H "sweet-jazzy-love-song"
Sir Cubworth "Lost love song"
Copper Canell "Twinkle, twinkle little star"

*Wonderful animation Christiane!!!* This took me on a *happy sad happy emotional* journey. My father and mother before they passed I took care of them even providing hospice care for them. Listening to all their *stories and memories* was wonderful and I learned things I never knew about them. And little things would pop in to their minds and make them *smile and happy* as they remembered and told them. Gosh, I have seen all your touching animations and this one has touched me the most. Big *HUG🤗* Thanks! *IcloneFun🤩*
Thank you so so so much for your so personal comment - which also moves me - and so sorry for your loss! But what a wonderful gift your parents gave you! I'm so happy for you! And thanks again for your warm words!
You are an amazing person Christiane. I thank you for all your amazing and inspiring work :) Big *HUG🤗* Thanks! *IcloneFun🤩*
A warm friendship-hug for you:)
This hit me! I hope I die before I end up like this. I work in a nursing home..I love my residents..sometimes more than they're own families. 😢
@@marieboyle6183 Thank you so much for your comment - the nurses and helpers I met do a really, really great and heartfelt job! But I also met old people who can't cope with the fact being in a home.

Hello my friend! Wonderful to see another upload from you. This is brilliant. How you switch between young days and old days conveys so much. Your attention to detail is unreal too😎 I like how the old man use his walker to take his mouse toy for a walk as if he is escaping from that retirement home. You make stunning short story videos, so never worry about how much time is in between them. As a musician I completely understand the "not being satisfied" thing. Know this my friend...you are amazing and tell stories that are so very captivating😎 Have a wonderful day my friend😎🍻
Oh this a wonderful comment! Thank you so much! Such recognition makes me so happy - and puts me in a good mood! Have a wonderful day and with lots of inspiring music- ideas!

What a wonderful movie 💓 The ending was so good ✨
Thank you so much my friend! And greetings to your doggie :)
I think elderly people lived the last of their days less sad back in the day when no country had such a thing as elderly home or retirement home.
Everybody had family back then.. one should fall they would find arms catching them.. no matter the age.
Sure is hard to care for them let alone the sacrifice but… one would feel better they’re doing the right thing no matter the costs because.. some day.. we’d be them.. needing support.. gentle support.. especially on our soft sides. Advice? Privacy. Keep things private. Especially from those who ask questions no matter the relation. If one wants to lend a hand you’d see it in action already.
I love you granny.. I always did and always will. RIP… miss you terribly 💐💞
Thanks a lot for your comment!
@@zapfsaeule2 You’re very welcome. 👋🏻
Interesting story and realization. 😀Watched it twice because I didn't quite get the story (i.e. the theme of freedom) the first time around.
There are number of nice details I noticed (such as the old man gently stroking the Mickey fridge magnet and, lying in bed, when he reached out for his wife who was no longer by his side, or the tapping of the cane determining the speed of eating of the little boy). I also noticed changes in the look of some of the materials, in particular of the chrome on the wheelchair and the spoon as well as the texture on the walker); usually the metal materials in your animations have a more matt look.
There were a few instances when I thought the scale was little bit off (but perhaps that was intentional to show the old man as small and frail): when he stands in the open door of the attic, the door handle seems to be at the height of his shoulders (perhaps also due to the camera angle) and, sometimes, he looks a little small compared with the size of the wheelchair. (When I combine assets from different sources, I always try to ensure that they are all real-life scale so as to make them fit together correctly in terms of relative size.)
Thank you so much for your detailed comment with all the hints and information. It is always so helpful to get constructive feed back. Thank you!
nice Blender 3D.
Thanks a lot :)
本当に上手に作られてますね😊👏👏👏
Thank you so much!
Very touching and humbling story/animation LJG! It's very impressive, and it's good to see your personal inspirations come to life through your animations. It's interesting how life can come full circle, and how some of the things we had when we were children can still hold something valuable to us, and give us comfort. At the end of the day, we are all people that were once children, so some of those memories will always stand out to us. Also, take as much time as you need to feel happy with what you're making. How I see it is it's more important to be satisfied yourself when sharing, as great things are worth the wait. As always a very talented and detailed showing from start to finish! I enjoyed watching this, and you have a great and special talent to make us feel something through your creations!
👍 👍 👏 👏 🧒👦🧔♂️🧑🦳🐭

WONDERFUL!
Thank you so much!
Unfortunately, thats the end for most of us. First either you or
your mate of a lifetime will die, leaving the other to finish
their days alone. Then, you will get to a point where you cant
care for yourself & have to go into a home. Its there, you will
spend your last days.

Oh tank you so much!
1-DON'T BUMP THE CAMERA. It feels kinda cool move, rotate and zoom in and out, but it distratcs the viewer from your animation work. 2-DON'T ANIMATE THE CHARACTER, LET THE CHARACTER BE ANIMATED. Sometimes i feel i know how you move just by watching your animations. Try change the pace here n there. 3-MASTERPIECE SHOTS. Little boy scenes are really beautifull, you always get me by surprise. 3-I LOVE YOU, but you already know it.
Oh thank you so much and also for your for your valuable advice- I'll try my best the next time . I know I'm still far away from where I want to be. :) And it is wonderful to get feed back! Thanks my friend!
