So ready for this!! Thanks for keeping on top of things Jesse! Tempo automation and groove templates are definitely gonna be super important moving forward, logic pro and ableton have some great functions for this!
We found referencing old blues and funk tracks and analysing tempo changes has been imperative in creating that human feel with programmed instrumentation.
In turn increasing demand for session musicians and live unquantised sample libraries! Absolutely can't wait!! Bring back the groove baby!! As you said it's time to loosen up and move away from rigid on the grid tracks!!
Sounds like a win for music as whole!!!

I was pretty involved in artist promotion for about 6 years and have been thinking that needs to be incorporated into this new era of music licensing. Having an EPK (electronic press kit) has been important for many boutique libraries and licensing services for several years. They want to be able to promote their composers as professional indie label artists. They want a good bio and professional promo photos at a minimum. Some companies like Musicbed, Epidemic Sound, Soundstripe and Artlist foster collaboration between their best artists, sort of as a writing staff. Some even help produce their work. They also use affiliate marketers, like myself, to further promote the artists. In my case, I produce music videos for vocal tracks in their catalog from stock videos and other creative assests. The trick is using the highest quality footage and having good video editing skills.
The idea I’ve had for the past couple of years is to start forming artist collectives that have more narrow focus than trying to offer all types if music for all types of productions. These collectives could operate more or less as a small label and create an ecosystem around their brand. That could include not only the licensing, but also promo of touring artists’ gigs, music videos, a forum relating to music and updates on the artists, Spotify playlists, etc. There could also be a TH-cam chanel interviewing the artists, music discussions realting to music in media, a VJ show that plays artist’s music videos, a streaming music channel, etc.
The idea is to create an environment that gives the customers a memorable experience that they will return to. Make them think of your catalog as a roster of professional artists they enjoy listening to and want to learn more about. Have them playing your artists music while driving to work, waiting for a meeting to start, working in the office, etc. Get them to feel like they discovered someone new where they feel a connection. Let them make the music viral. Next time they have a need, they already have songs in their “memory bank”. They’ve been watching videos, listening to playlists, talking in forums, going to gigs.
And of course, you still promote the music licensing service, but you plant that as a secondary thought so you can target the commercial music users, social media account holders and people who just love music. Cover all areas and create several revenue streams from within one ecosystem.
This doesn’t have to be expensive. Some years back I did all of this by myself through 3 websites, 2 podcasts and an online radio station while promoting about 800 indie bands and singer songwriters over six years. My only costs were web host fees and domain registration and artists paid $75/yr for the service. But in this case, artists are not charged as the collectives run their own services. Think about what a collective of several people could do by using AI tools.
Licensing interfaces are offered by companies like Sourceaudio and Synctank and the expenses can be split by the collective and written off as business expenses.
    Thoughts? Interested?

Interesting idea and I think you're onto something! Is there anything like that in existence today? I'd need to see a working model to fully appreciate the value something like that would offer...

    • @HNMusicVideos
      @HNMusicVideos ปีที่แล้ว

@SyncMyMusic -The closest I’ve seen to the ecosystem concept is Musicbed. They operate very much like a small indie label and promote their artists pretty well offline by supporting their gigs and setting up writing teams. I believe Artlist is doing the same as I frequently see cross reference between artists with vocalists working with instrumentalists and producers. I believe Soundstripe has some salaried composers and some freelance. I’ve seen some collaborations but not as many as the other two. Epidemic Sound indicates that they started wrting and production teams. The issue with them has been thst thry do not work with PRO registered composers. Last o heard, they are starting to consider it, bit that was a while ago.
I was working with another library that has also started to see things this way and pitched my idea to them when I was on their tech advisory board. Their concern was a fear that they could lose focus on the licensing. But with this changing landscape, I wonder if that’s now still the case. It’s a pretty big library, but a lot if what thry have fslls into the AI “replaceable” category. They do, however, attempt to promote their top artists and formed an artist collective that includes their best composers. It’s called the Red Collective and their focus is on TV/Film. At one point, the company considered moving more in that direction.
I can send more details to your Sync Academy email. That library might be interested in doing an interviewer as the CEO has done them in the past on other YT channels. There’s another library I work with that may also be willing to be interviewed. I can check with both and let you know if they’re open to it and make introductions.

I agree. All of the generic music needs will definitely become AI. On the organic issue, we can only hope people working in that area won’t then allow thier tracks to be used for datasets. If enough do, AI will also do that faster than we can. I think that’s going to happen anyway, but will probably take a few years.
The other thing is that a lot of artistic vocal and instrumental music is already being licensed via companies like Artlist, which has major investments, also does video and other creative assets, and is likely to survive. If I decide to stay with licensing, I’d be looking at them. But since it’s a subscription based model, the money is pretty low compared to what some are used to. Hence, I’m still thinking that moving into other types of creative endeavors that include music and can be controled by an artist will ultimately be my best option. Music I create will be involved, it’s just not the main focus. Consider that all of these AI tools make small business and sole proprietor success far more possible than in the past if you jump early.

Hi Jesse, your recent videos on AI are much needed, thank you for making them. It is clear to see that a higher quality of music is needed to compete with AI. With that being said, higher quality music will take more time to produce, resulting in less tracks per year being finished. Do have any recommendations on how many tracks people should produce in a week, month or year? all the best.

Maybe for individuals and perhaps very small companies allowing the use of completely A.I generated music could work. Regardless of that, perhaps start thinking about lobbying the government to ensure that major companies can never use completely A.I generated tunes. If it's illegal for ChatGPT to write a book and someone try to sell it as their own, then why couldn't the same be done with music. I've spent the last 2 1/2 years buying this and that, watching videos, dreaming about making music for Sync Licensing. Not to mention an Associate's degree in, Music Management with concentration in Audio Production. At this very moment I've a website nearly completed along with all the social media shit that I would rather not deal with. All so that I can finally see a year's long dream come to fruition. I'm finally knockin" at the door of this industry and instead of feeling excited I already feel cheated and robbed of my dream. Who are these soulless people who want to create something like this? I guarantee they're not musicians. The Million Musician March on Washington!!!!

In your opinion, does it mean that we should work without reference songs? The structure remains, I think, with edit points and a clean ending. But the sound should be new? Do the music supervisors go along with that? They are looking for a certain sound, which is already established for certain moments in tv. With commercials, I can well imagine that they are looking for new sounds.

Great video and good suggestions. On the vocal front I have a question. I already built a decent social media following and thru that got some brand deals. From one deal I got an AI vocal plugin that gives decent results. I can't afford a vocalist nor do I have a tonne of spare time to research vocalists in my area (family commitments outwith my current Sync Library and social media commitments). Would this be an issue? I feel it's using AI to my advantage. I have noticed a trend of more producers using AI vocal plugins. I think if it's done right and the producer is proficient it can work ....would you agree? I do want to work with a vocalist at some point but AI is solving a problem for me in the interim.

That is exactly what other people that cannot afford a composer or producer think of this: an opportunity to level out the playing field. Pretty much what a daw and sample library services such as Splice and Loopcloud did back in the day. It is called progress. I disagree with the statement that the people developing this technology are monsters without a soul, and any development should be strictly regulated or banned altogether through the use of the violence monopoly of nation states. I respectfully see that as an authoritarian point of view: “let’s ban any development that forces me to change or adapt regardless of how many people could benefit from it”. We don’t have the right to jeopardize other people’s gain because “we have a dream”.

    • @FXWLL

The people screaming that AI is evil are the ones that did not work on developing skills and now are scared that AI will replace them and I get it, I have real sympathy because it's scary to face that reality, I get in my head about it all too. So Instead of levelling up their skillset they get angry at external things in the world. Tech will always improve and jobs will go and new ones will be created. My kid will face the same challenges in the world with new tech we can't think of yet but just like smart phones & internet are everyday for us, AI will be everyday for him. I think changing from producer/composer to music artist isn't going to work for a lot of people. If AI generated music is already 'good enough' for non-commercial music, then it's only a matter of time before before it's the go to for commercial music - including creating AI music artists. We're going to have AI 'people' doing all kinds of things in media. It's already happening. So how how average musicians/composers/producers/artists going to compete with superior and cheaper AI people? I would be focused on creating AI artists if you are not a topnotch music creator already.
