Your video is completely inaccurate! Kobe Bryant is considered African American therefore African ancestry! Yes we are from the Americas because we were bought here but our ancestors are from Africa. And living closer to the equator does mean that you have more Melanin therefore darker skin .

Being black women of Jamaican decent born and raised in London, this is a topic which I had to educate my Chinese partner about. He too believed that all black people are from Africa. After explaining to him that my parents are from Jamaica located in the Caribbean, where you will not only find blacks but indians, Chinese and white people, he was amazed. Would I say that this thinking is down to ignorance...? Maybe yes maybe no. I guess some races of people need to be educated on this type of subject. I also live and work in a primary school in Cyprus which has a lot of children from different backgrounds, they too will ask me where I'm from and if im from Africa. I tend to just explain to them that black people live in different parts of the world and not just Africa. Good video by the way!

Maryam Kim Meaning both my parents are black Jamaicans born and raised in Jamaica. I have grown up around Jamaican culture, food and influences. That would therefore make me of Jamaican decent. There could potentially be Taino Indian in my family bloodline who knows. Nowadays If you learn about the history of Jamaica and its people, yes most Jamaicans are of African descent, with smaller minorities of Europeans, East Indians and Chinese. Some of the black Jamaicans also have a small percentage of mixed ancestry like on my father's side who is mixed with black, Scottish and Arabic. In this day and age no one can claim to be pure blooded of any ethnicity. Most of the blacks living in the Caribbean and America would be a prime example of that because of slavery. I mean do some of us blacks scattered throughout the Caribbean and America know who and what we are and where we originally came from, even though we physically look black?

Good point. He should've worded it better. I think he was trying to address that most Asians tend to confuse ethnicity with nationality because theirs is often one and the same. Some Koreans I know would feel insulted if they were called Chinese by a westerner. I have to explain this to so many people and I would think its common sense white people are from Europe as black people are originally from Africa. All humanity originated and evolved in Africa. I wanted to say that I think people associate darkness with hotter places because typically places close by the equator have darker skinned people. The equator is closer to the sun...so it's hotter..but it's heat doesn't determine skin color. So, I just looked up why darker people are naturally more common in the regions around the equator and what comes to play...in terms of evolution. One theory scientist have is that people evolved to have black skin as a protection mechanism against the ultraviolet rays from the sun. UV-B radiation is stronger at the equator than the poles. So when people migrated and ended up in areas like Britain with high latitudes, people weren't exposed to the sun as much. This meant that they couldn't produce as much Vitamin D. Therefore, the dark people in these places, evolved to have lighter skin to produce more Vitamin D. Inherited traits that provide Inherited traits that provide a survival and reproductive advantage in a particular environment are more likely to be passed on to the next generation and thus become more common over time. In this case, it was lighter skin. ...So there's your science lesson for today.

Chinese, I think, traditionally define where you are from by ancestry, not where you are born, not even where your parents are born, but where your ancestors generally come from. Of course, I don't think people think about these issues because it doesn't concern them directly.

I’m confused are you asking where they live or ancestry. If it’s ancestry then it’s true all black people hold ancestry in Africa as the definition of being black is having the majority of African ancestry. If you were asking where they live that would be a different question. The same goes for Americans if you asked me where Americans came from I would presume you meant native Americans as those are the “True” Americans if you catch my drift? I met some Chinese students at a local University in America, and honestly they don't know very much about the world outside of China. I would like for someone to answer why is it that they don't have much knowledge of peoples of the world? Can they see America or British television? Do they have the world wide internet? If you were locked up for years with no contact to the outside world you and your family might fair the same. I don't think Chinese in China are racist for the same reasons that The U.S.A. is. America Racism's is core based from guilt in some ways.... China may have issues with Japan or in some cases Korea , but there is no bad history that is on going with most of the world. I wanted to say that I think people associate darkness with hotter places because typically places close by the equator have darker skinned people. The equator is closer to the sun...so it's hotter..but it's heat doesn't determine skin color.
So, I just looked up why darker people are naturally more common in the regions around the equator and what comes to play...in terms of evolution. One theory scientist have is that people evolved to have black skin as a protection mechanism against the ultraviolet rays from the sun. UV-B radiation is stronger at the equator than the poles. So when people migrated and ended up in areas like Britain with high latitudes, people weren't exposed to the sun as much. This meant that they couldn't produce as much Vitamin D. Therefore, the dark people in these places, evolved to have lighter skin to produce more Vitamin D. Inherited traits that provide Inherited traits that provide a survival and reproductive advantage in a particular environment are more likely to be passed on to the next generation and thus become more common over time. In this case, it was lighter skin.
