  • Computers can drive cars and beat people at the toughest board games, but can they be creative? As a composer and entrepreneur, Ed Rex believes we are heading towards a world where AI will master creativity, and he has founded a startup to find out more. In this talk, he reframes the question by asking what we really mean when we say that humans are creative, and examines how far computers have come in replicating this process and what it will mean for us as they continue to improve.

Well, he doesn't hit the spot in some assertions. Art is not expensive DUE to the phase of creation, but more due to the difficulties of giving and experience. In some points the lecture is controversial: but is returns us to the conceptual debate.

In a smart human society humans should not have to work at all, and artificial intelligence should work for them. I think a lot of what we believe as "nature" actually is very developed sophisticated artificial intelligence. But we are so unaware and egoist to be conscious about this since we got stuck in a mechanisist/materialist slavery system since Babilonian times.

I guess the question is not either computers are creative or not. Rather, are computers capable of creating GOOD art? Good poetry? Good music?

What is art ? What is good ? what is good taste ? what is bad one ? No matter how to produce. Important is to feel. Do not you think the same ?

No. Art is Art even if there's no observer. parodies, shock value and social critic can exist inside of art but they aren't art. You can not like something yet recognize it is good.

What is art? Art is everything.
What is good? Good art is art that speaks to people.
what is good taste? There is no good taste, only different taste.

Indeed, the relativeness of "liking" something is evident, however, good art can be considered when it speaks to people or that people can connect to it, and feel something. Even if that "people" is the artist, because as you said, ar is art even if there's no "public". But i have a hard time when trying to imagine a machine creating art for itself, once it has no feelings, no conscience. But that is just my opinion, not that it really matters.
