The previous one you saw is actually the release this year from Lovebites on their official channel and it is a LIVE track from their latest LIVE LP "Knockin' at Heaven's Gate - Part II". This variant with the Chopin intro was uploaded probably by a Lovebites fan and it was from another LIVE LP back in 2020 called "Five of a Kind".
Miyako is simply a musical genius of our time who plays the guitar, piano, keyboards, bass guitar and does well on the drums. Plus she finds time to write a lot of the group's songs. What else ?
I very glad You react to the real "Swan song" with the Chopin intro "Revolutionary etude" that explain all the song. Ah, in the back ground You can hear another Chopin etude: Ocean! This live version, for me it's more epic than the the new live version w/o Chopin intro and with the mixer that not glorify the epic tail about the story described by Asami with her lyrics!
LOVEBITES - Swan Song lyrics: If this was the last day you could live on this earth Would you still go on, accusing someone for today It’s better to fail than not do anything at all It is not the length, but depth of life that counts Oh brave soldier Oh gallant warrior Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla Believe what’s in your soul For death will come to all You shall rest peacefully in God’s Heaven Floating lotus You are so graceful Saintly and glorious Till the end of time Floating lotus You are so beautiful Sing me your sweet song The legend of the swan If you’ve never hoped, you’ve never been through despair Ignorance is bliss, it’s easier to never care You might think it’s meaningless to sacrifice a life Sometimes the life of one can save so many more Oh brave soldier Oh gallant warrior Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla Believe what’s in your soul For death will come to all You shall rest peacefully in God’s Heaven Floating lotus You are so graceful Saintly and glorious Till the end of time Floating lotus You are so beautiful Sing me your sweet song The legend of the swan SOLO: miyako / both Floating lotus You are so graceful Saintly and glorious Till the end of time Floating lotus You are so beautiful Sing me your sweet song The legend of the swan SOLO: midori [guitar] / miyako [piano] ----- lyrics: asami music: miyako arrangement: LOVEBITES (miho, haruna, midori, miyako, asami) album: Electric Pentagram 01/29/2020 ------
LOVEBITES' current live schedule for next year: June 22th, 2024: Cartagena, Spain (Rock Imperium Festival) June 26th-29th, 2024: Vivero, Lugo, Spain (Resurrection Fest XIX) June 28th, 2024: Clisson, France (Hellfest 2024) September 1st, 2024: Tokyo, Japan (Tokyo Garden Theater) September 6th, 2024: Atlanta, Georgia, USA (ProgPower USA XXIII)
Brian, glad you also looked at this version, which along with Frozen Serenade, sets LOVEBITES in a category to themselves. Their VE label never released this iconic performance on YT (a grave disservice to this band), but chose instead to only release a version that "butchered" two of its most distinctive parts - where Miyako takes center stage. Don't overlook the fact that Miyako also composed and arranged this masterpiece, a reflection of the depth and breadth of her musicianship.
I disagree with the butchered statement if you watch the commentary by the band from KAHG part 1 from JPU’s website the ladies specifically mentioned that they are always changing their performances slightly from each time they perform the songs live so that the song is never played the exact same way making the 2020 version a completely different song from night 2 from this newest performance and I watched my Bluray version of this song and yes you can actually hear that piano in the mix although a little more on the lower bassy side compared with 2020 witch was higher in tone but it was there and remember that that piano is a digital grand piano not the acoustic one from HMND (2021) so it’s settings may have been changed on purpose by Miyako herself. moral of the story is that the audio from the official video is intentional and NOT A MISTAKE. So I would recommend you watch their commentary (with English subtitles) and see for yourself from the ladies who said that it’s done on purpose
Thanks for the explanation. Perhaps because this was my very first LOVEBITES song and the emotive impact of Miyako's seamless transition to the piano. But it's not just to myself alone, but also several fans expressed such disappointment. So imagine leaving out the very thing that drove many reactors to tears. It beats me how any artist would be honestly pleased to leave out such a climax ... made worse by Miyako being inaudible while masterfully stroking "silent keys" in the video. This brings me to a point about Japanese culture, and to their response that you referred to. I work closely with Japanese companies in my field, and I'm very familiar with their hierarchical, conformist ethos where preserving the peace using "tatemae 建前" is paramount (a term worth googling). So even a perfectionist like Miyako would never make a public fuss over what's very obvious. (Note, even Miho left and "preserved the peace" without throwing stones. The reason: tatemae建前).
Despite what people say about the audio the band themselves said that every time they perform any song they change the way they play it so that it’s not the same way every time they do subtle changes in order to keep it different from the last time they play a song meaning that the official video is intentional and not a mistake. As for my source it was from the band themselves JPU records website has part one of their concert Knocking at Heavens Gate both the concert itself and one with commentary by the band members with English subtitles and they specifically mentioned that very point they never played the same song the same way as before (their words not mine) so the people complaining are complaining for nothing
The problem with the newer version of the song has nothing to do with how the ladys play at all, its just the mix where the drums are waaaay to loud and the piano is to low so you hear nearly nothing of Miyakos piano lines (starting at 7:48 here) when the band is still playing. I just guess they didn't had the same guy mixing it here that also does the mix for Nightwish.
@@beldin2987 as I mentioned the band never plays the song the same way each time they play it (in case you didn’t pick up on that point) again they said it during their commentary available on JPU’s website VOD version and as for the mixing and mastering it is the same guys as they always use (check the credits for the dvd and Bluray if you have it)
The newest video (your prior video) of Swan Song is mixed with a very live feel, which personally I think is step back from what we just watched here. I think the performances are very close, though I prefer Fami’s bass tone - but the elephant in the room is the piano… in the KAHG recording I would bet is a ‘real’ grand piano and not the electronic Roland used before. The real piano is lost in the live metal setting, and the mix shows that. If it’s not an acoustic grand, then it was just badly recorded, but that seems unlikely. The Chopin intro of course is a masterclass by Miyako 🤘

Why are some fans defending so hard that the mixing of Swan Song of the KAHG concert was good? Everybody can hear that the piano is too low in the mix and I don't understand why Lovebites choose to mix it that way? because it's live? Eerybody agrees on the fact that the mix from Zepp Diver City was way better and everybody wants to hear the piano loud and clear. It has nothing to do with the fact that they play every concert a little bit different but it's all about the mix. If this was Lovebites choice to mix it then I just trust my ears and I prefer the older one.
The previous one was from a pair of shows this year, but the mix isn't as good. The guitars sit too low and you can't really hear the piano. It's really too bad. The mix from this show was absolutely brilliant.
It really is a shame about the knocking at heaven's gate mix and choices for this track(and one or two others are also pretty lousy). It is a great track, regardless.

This whole concert (2020) was top notch and included a sublime version of Edge of the World IMHO. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is the best version of this song done live. Has Miyako Chopin intro and audio mix is done very well.

Shock and Awe, in the most beautiful possible way. Thanks for coming back to this version.
