    First time skiing, could not keep from falling. Gave up and headed to the lodge. Got something to drink and watched the kids on the bunny slope, always falling, but laughing and having a good time. Went back to the bunny hill, kept falling, but had a good time. Next time skiing, stayed upright most of the time. Keep a positive attitude, and most of all: have fun!

      Yes yes yes! Attitude is everything. Sometimes we forget to just look around and take it all in. You're so right too, take a break. Have a snack and come back with energy and a positive outlook. Sometimes that can make all the difference. Well done.

    In my family of 6, we learnt to ski as soon as we could walk. My parents were in the post-war ski crowd in the Sierras. So we learnt the Arlberg method. (I don't think they have specific styles anymore, do they?) Now I have not been on the slopes in quite some time. I do hope to get back on, before long.
    I appreciate greatly that you address details. That is what skiing involves, but then many sports do.
    I have sent a link to one of your lessons to a friend. He watched his wife suffer instead of teaching her how to get up after a fall. He says he taught skiing in Colorado, but he has not taught his family how to use their ski pole straps. Or how to get up. You see why I like details?
    So! Thank you for good, thorough lessons that I can even share with friends.

    • @skng

      Michael, thank you for taking the time to drop us a message. It's great hearing from skiers out there who are finding our 'How to Ski' lessons so helpful. I wanted to create a series that was clear, concise and could help everyone from absolute beginners who had never been on snow, right up to advanced and expert skiers. I also wanted to make sure we give them a few essential tips of what to look out for before they even meet their instructors - How to Walk on Snow, How to Carry Skis... I guess I just want people to enjoy skiing as much as I do.
      Thanks again and if there are any 'Details' you'd like us to cover in the future drop me a line. Hope to see you back on the hill sometime soon.
      Cheers, Noddy.

    • @TheCoyotemonster
      @TheCoyotemonster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skng You certainly succeed, Noddy! I was a self taught skier, up until TH-cam University became a thing. I've always loved skiing, but when you learn how to do it right it becomes so much easier! At 56, this is a delight and quite frankly a necessity. Heaps of good on you!

    I wish we had videos like this when I was learning how to ski in the early 90s. I learned on a slope in Germany that had only T bars and rope tows. For some odd reason I thought unloading from the chairlift would be a breeze. Nope. Talk about dirty looks, especially when the lift attendant picked me up!
    I highly, highly recommend that beginners and intermediates take lessons. It's worth the investment. You'll enjoy the sport so much more when you're not falling on your butt every 10 feet. I even took lessons on how to properly use my new shaped skis and loved them.

    The first time I went skiing it was a school trip to Artisena in Italy. It was mostly chairlifts there and I had no problem with them, in fact I loved them. The only problem I had was with the poma tow, there were barely any and we only had to do it only once but I managed to mess up and fall (mainly because the amount of stress they put on keeping your skiis straight whilst your going up) which caused me to stay away from pomas. Problem is living in Scotland most of the resorts use pomas, there's very few chairlifts which is making me wary of going to the slopes since I'm worried to fall again. Trying to find videos like these to gain some confidence since my dad wants to take me up for some training on the slopes since he does snowboarding haha

    You should definitely mention getting the occasional lesson from the Ski School so those first lift rides result in a magical experience guided by an instructor/ski life coach verses the friend who says he can ski and just takes to the top and leaves you to fend for yourself. super dangerous, not fun. I'll take the guided tour so I don't develop too many bad habits and get a perspective on what I should be working on so I can be a stronger skier/snow boarder.

    • @skng
      @skng  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes glen sharpe. We thoroughly recommend using our Ski School apps and lessons in conjunction with professional ski instruction on the mountain. As you've mentioned they know their resort best, where to go and can give you real time feedback to stop you developing bad habits. Our skiing lessons can get you up to speed before you even get to the mountains and as a handy review tool afterwards. Thanks for the feedback.

    Very nice explenations should be very clear to people.
    One little extra about opening the seatlift. Dot do this to early specially with little children. usually there is a sign on the last pole that you can open. Or a bar just under the arrival with red and greed LEDs. First you only see the red LEDs and when you get closer you will see the green ones this is the moment you should open them.
    another note. Why you not wearing a helmet? Since it is the safetystandard these days.

  • @evansa41
    @evansa41 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    *rather both of the lifts shown are the free lifts.

    Is this normal in america?
