I'm not sure how I missed your videos until now. Great review on Golden Sliced. I like your review style. I'm a pipe maker and I've been enjoying this tobacco for over 15 years. I've really started to appreciate it in the last 5 and it has become my favorite in the last 2 years. I'm glad that I purchased 10 100g tins 5 years ago and another 10 2 years ago. It ages really well. To all new pipe smokers, stock up on pipe tobacco like Golden Sliced since the prices will only go up and this one gets sweeter with age.

Smoking it right now; I always get a powdered sugar note and rich herbal tea. It’s like English tea in the morning. The perique keeps you on your toes, but the mellow VA keeps you on your heels.

A hot summer day, a shade tree, a big glass of iced tea and a bowl of Orlik Golden Sliced. It’s hard to beat that combination. I crave that on hotter days.

Great review! OGS is my new favorite summer blend. The tin note hits caramel, raisin, hay and grapefruit. I love a good retrohale on this blend towards the upper third of the bowl. The more you progress towards the bottom of the bowl, the more the lemon iced tea notes start to shine. Definitely great on a humid day!

Something I’ve noticed about OGS that not a lot of people seem to mention is that it smells and tastes similar to a Lakeland. When I open my jar of OGS, the smell reminds me of a toned down Ennerdale Flake. I’ve heard bergamot is a casing they use in it, so that might be why. Love OGS though!

I can see that. OGS is one of my favorite blends, both to smoke and to smell. When I crack open a fresh tin, I almost get a sort of perfume scent. Sort of reminds me a sunscreen scent as weird as that sounds

Bought my wife a 100 gram tin for Christmas as she likes the Va-Pers. Her favorite is Elizabethan and OGS is a close second. I enjoy it as well although straight Virginia's are more my speed I am getting used to Va-Pers.

That is a very decent mild VA, I agree. Yeah, if you are wanting that Perique influence, this blend is not the best choice. On C&D's other products, I would definitely suggest Poplar Camp (made with Yorktown base) for a medium tobacco that brings those sweet summertime VA nuances as well as truly notable Acadian spice.

I've smoked this tobacco around 15 years ago from a freshly baught tin and it was beautiful. And there's a tin waiting on my shelf to be opened from that time... I understood right away why this is such a classic, light but with taste and aroma, very consistent and easy to smoke, It's a delight when just smoking and not doing anything else and it goes smoothly aside doing other things. - In case you'd like to look out for other virginia flakes: My all time classic is the Richmond Navy Flake. A bit heavier, a bit darker, no perique, just a virginia. It could be the one tobacco if I'd be asked to name one I'd like to smoke only. Another one could be the Peter Heinrichs "Golden Sliced". I didn't smoke that one yet but I'm waiting to as I've purchesed some. The descriptions were too tempting...

Bought some two years ago and didn't really care for it. But, I put it in a Mason jar and tomorrow I will dig it out and give it another chance. In all fairness I had just started smoking the pipe and I don't think I was able to smoke slowly enough to enjoy it. I'll check it out and leave another comment . Thanks for revisiting it

    Hiyas Wilson,
It took me some time to really enjoy this blend. As it happens, I prefer to stove this blend as it adds a more malty/toasty note to the flavor profile.
    Serene smokes,

      @oldandintheway1955 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I posted a 2 part video on stoving Orlik 😉 about 2 years ago. It's in my video history.
Quick notes: 4 hours at 200°f . I remove the hard cap of the mason jar and replace it with aluminum foil; held in place with the mason jar threaded ring. I placed the jars on a cookie sheet. There is no odor until you remove the foil. It's a delicious aroma, I must say. I replaced the foil with the hard cap and let it rest for 2 weeks. The metamorphosis was worth the effort.

I enjoy a Orlik Slices. Though I do have to say you got me hooked on The Country Squire and their blends both non-aromatic and few aromatics (Cherokee and my favorite Hunting). Tidewate as the Virginia. Orlik is a very approachable blend and a good introduction for beginners.

Hey y'all, totally unrelated to this blend but hoping someone can help me out.
    The situation:
I have 3 different aromatic tins. They all smell great but once I light any of them, there's 0 flavour...all I can taste is smoke and ash.
    Things I've tried:
    - different percentages of wetness/dryness
    - deep cleaning my briar pipes
    - even getting a new meerschaum pipe
    - taking a smoking break (actually was forced to get a few months off due to a surgery)
    - running the pipe cooler / hotter
Like I said, all 3 blends have a great and rich smell whilst unlit and taste like "nothing" once I light them up.
Also, all 3 are blends which I used in the past and they used to taste just as good as they smelled when unlit.
It seems higly unlikely that I got a "bad batch" of all 3 so either something happened with my technique, my pipes or my tongue.
That being said, I can taste food and flavours just fine and I also get the right flavour from my cigards.
Thanks for any tips you can throw at me!
