I just brought home one of that M.V. Tannins "Kirk" AM/ AOS and got it from one of our member friend at the HOS I'm excited to see it flower, so far so good. Thank you for some wonderful tips on caring for them. I would like to see a list of what other Vanda you have in your collection, and hope to have them one by one if I can afford it. I love vandas and wants to grow them more than any other orchids though I love a lot of them. .I know I'm partial to Vandas. Thanks again for sharing.
wow, I have never heard of Thai crud, and thankfully I have not seen it, I like for my Vandas to have leaves all the way down. I saw a video many years ago and It said never buy one that has the palm tree look, ( its sick), not sure if that is true or not, but that has always stuck in my mind and its not as pretty as one with lots of leaves, also I don't like black marks or spots on any of my orchids, so that is another thing I look for, but I don't get to hand pick many of my orchids the are online purchases, and you get what they send, and sometimes its crap! Great video, you do have beautiful Vandas!
I can’t wait! Definitely will be on the lookout for one of your MV Tannins on eBay sometime soon...hopefully! What type of slow release fertilizer do you recommend, if at all for Miami grown outdoor Vandas? I’d like to try Maria Young’s “tea-bag” method. Thanks again for replying...you really made my day 🤗🤗🤗
Hi. Just discovered your videos and vandas are my favorites. Love your advice and orchids. I live in Chicagoland where winters are brutal so I soak my vandas almost daily but can’t get them to produce keikis. Fertilizer (balanced), Cal-Mag, and seaweed often. Any suggestions? Thanks
Thank you for that back story on the naming for the MV Tannins, I have recntly purchased one that just went into bloom with two spikes all the way in South Africa! keep up the good work.
Thank you for this video, it really made me realize that I have purchased an orchid with a disease or some kind of problem. I am taking your advice and not placing it near my other orchids thank you for explaining the difference. So, I was wondering where I can buy a healthy Vanda like yours?
Vandas are my favorites and I just found your channel. Love it! I live near Chicago so growing vandas is tricky. I water every day(soak actually) but have yet to see any keikis I fertilize, Cal-mag, seaweed often so I was hoping this would help. It has contributed to them blooming multiple times each year but sadly, no keikis. Any advice?
Keikis, or babies, are really dependent on each Vanda. Some are more prone to throwing keikis than others. What species or hybrid are you speaking about? That may give me a better handle on things. Multiple blooms per year?! Must be doing something right!
Thank you for the great advice, your videos are so informative. I’m new to orchids and just purchased two Vandas in bloom, one of which had a baby spike. The spike turned brown and fizzled. May I solicit some of your expertise for the reason I lost my beloved baby spike? I’m guessing maybe bud blast due to the change in environment? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated! Keep making great videos and growing gorgeous Vandas!!!
Blasting spikes happen all too often unfortunately:( Sometimes, the change in environment can trigger it, but more than likely it was a case of the thrips. Little tiny sucking monsters that like roots and fresh buds! Spray your plants with a product called Orthene. Follow instructions on label and repeat a week after...i would then spray again a couple weeks after that.
Oh no...I was afraid it might be thrips. I’ve been inspecting my Vandas and can’t seem to spot the little buggers but the signs are there...mainly on the roots where I see the little rings. Thank you so much for the reply and the great advice. I’m heading to get some Orthene and then later today to the Miami orchid show. Hopefully I can find a nice healthy Vanda. Thanks again and have a happy growing day 😊
@@orchidprincess3059 i don't sell at shows, however i do online sometimes. Ck ebay under my same name for listings. I am not selling any MV Tannins just yet :) soon!
Well I screwed the pooch I fell in love with something that I only saw and that was all she wrote now I know it’s going to get returned for days later because it is not healthy thank you again
The bottom isn't healthy - agreed but the top is. Cut in "woody" looking stem leaving at least one or two roots, remove the flower spike [it shall last in a vase as well]. Spray the whole plant with Hydrogen peroxide solution and then seal stem wound with cinnamon.
Still would have kept it "quarantined" but it would have allowed you to observe the actual plant. Was it just a root issue or a stem issue, for example... it is an unknown quantity. If new roots had appeared it could have been a fungal issue caused by the lack of air flow around the roots in the basket. And by having a measure of the "treatments" effectiveness you would have been able to repeat it if it had happened to another plant.
Smart and good-looking

We all do it!! I am guilty! Don't let the flowers tempt you next time!! Lol. Its so hard!
How often we need to fertilize vandas and which fertilizer you usually use?

PL tell the ferlizer to spray for blooming Vandas and what is the time gape to do so. Shall we water the Vandas the day on which we give ferlizer
I do not water before fertilizing. Use a balanced fertilizer...Peters or Dyna Gro is good. Both easy to use..please follow label.instructions.

Hello I am in the San Francisco Bay area and I am interested in getting a Vanda. I need one that easy to grow and re-bloom what do you suggest ?
A hybrid for sure. Anything with mimi palmer or tessellata in the parentage are good growers and bloomers.
Where do I get either one or both of these
The bottom isn't healthy - agreed but the top is. Cut in "woody" looking stem leaving at least one or two roots, remove the flower spike [it shall last in a vase as well]. Spray the whole plant with Hydrogen peroxide solution and then seal stem wound with cinnamon.
I understand, however its not worth it being near my other plants. Only place that it is worthy is Garbage can!! Lol

Love your videos but, your very hard too hear!!
