“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…”
You’ve heard this many times before, and yet have you ever wondered why life and liberty are automatically given and assumed while happiness isn’t . Why are millions of people around the world chasing happiness and very few ever “catch” it?
Arthur Brooks is a social scientist, Harvard professor, and bestselling author committed to helping people find success, happiness and deep meaning. He's such a profound thought-leader in the space that he just released a book with Oprah called Build the Life You Want, The Art and Science of Getting Happier.
We explore a deeply thought-provoking conversation about the pursuit of happiness through progress, learning, and understanding. As simple as the idea of happiness seems on the surface, understanding the complexities of what it means to pursue it, relish tt, and define the meaning of it without attachment and dogmatic viewpoints escapes many people.
Some key areas we dive hard and deep on that I think you will find so interesting are:
    1) The role of progress in human flourishing
    2) The danger of being attached and dogmatic with your beliefs
    3) The importance not allowing your views to define you
What I enjoyed most about our conversation was how far we explored and unpacked in areas that are potentially controversial topics like religious beliefs, political differences, and family schisms. Get ready to challenge your base assumptions and view existential threats from new angles.
    ARTHUR BROOKS QUOTES:
“The idea that you can be blissful and happy all the time is not just unrealistic, it's unhealthy. It would be terrible if you were happy all the time.”
“If you don't defend your positions, if you admit to the possibility that you're not right, that you learn and you update when people say things that you think are crazy, you say, tell me more that you're actually going to get better.”
“Any time you use your values as a weapon, you've denigrated their moral content. You've eviscerated the effectiveness of your approach. But if you use your values as a gift it might not always be taken in a charitable way.”
“Each of us is an entrepreneur in the startup of our lives. That's what really matters. And what we need is to always have a clear intention…”
“The best thing that you can possibly do is to think about the emotions that you're feeling, what they mean and how best to use them.”
“All the things we really want in life. All of our deep desires are complex. All of our solutions are complicated, and we're throwing complicated solutions at complex problems and we're not getting happier.”
“They're not entrepreneurial in the part of life that matters the most, which is their heart.”
““The first one is that there is meaning. You need to find it and live up to it.”

The measures you take to attain success determine your level of success. Creating sound financial habits, such as setting aside money for reliable investments on a regular basis, is essential to building wealth. It's important to talk about financial management, but most people avoid it, which comes back to bother them later. I hope everyone who reads this has a prosperous life!

Starting early is simply the best way of getting ahead to build wealth , investing remains a priority . I learnt from my last year's experience , I am able to build a suitable life because I invested early ahead this time .

The rich Invest in alternative income streams that are independent of the government should be the top priority for everyone right now. especially given the global economic crisis we are currently experiencing. Stocks, gold, silver, and virtual currencies are still attractive investments at the moment...

I thought about investing in the financial market, I heard that people make millions if you know the tricks of the trade, but I lack good knowledge and a strategy to outperform the market and generate good yields. I have $160,000 but it's hard to bite the bullet and do it.

I agree with you, yes people make millions I started out with investing on my own, but I lost a lot of money. I was able to pull out about $200k after the 2020 crash. I invested the money using an analyst, and in seven months, I raked in almost $673,000

For those who are struggling and feeling depressed, I understand that it isn't easy. It becomes especially challenging to persevere when you don't feel validated, and everyone around you appears to be doing better than you. It's not entirely your fault; you were dealt a bad hand. However, have faith because a bad hand might be a blessing in disguise, you just never know. Never give up.

Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future.., I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life!!

Investors should exercise caution with their exposure and exercise caution when considering new investments, particularly during periods of inflation. It is advisable to seek guidance from a professional or trusted advisor in order to navigate this recession and achieve potential high yields.

Around 2:38:44 he talks about “love at first sight” with an adopted child. I absolutely felt that way when I first looked into the eyes of a tiny kitten I picked up and years later later I still intensely love my cat. It’s not the exact same thing as a human child of course but there is self-similarity .

The idea of distinguishing between the "I self" as the observer and the "me self" as the observed resonates deeply. We often get trapped in our own identities and ideologies, but by cultivating a mindset of open observation and non-attachment, we create room for personal growth and the possibility of evolving our beliefs based on new insights. Embracing uncertainty, seeking diverse perspectives, and practicing self-compassion are all valuable reminders in our journey toward a more fulfilling and harmonious existence. Thank you for sharing

Having seen too many people have a wide variety of reactions to the same stimulus, I don’t believe/trust anyone who speaks authoritatively about human emotion or psychology.
One thing I like about Mr. Bilyeu is that he frequently tempers his advice with qualifiers that he is speaking from his experience and opinions. I strive to communicate that way.

Mr. Brooks is so 'life-affirming' so it came as a shock. As they say, having kids is a crapshoot (No pun intended). Beyond that - I'm at a loss for words - which is probably a good thing.

My girlfriend is probably going to read this since she also watches this channel, but I’m with this guy on recognising the importance of marrying your ‘best friend’ over the the physical aspect which is attraction.
Since I was 6 yrs old, this was always important to me - to marry (or at least stay) with a woman who is your best friend rather than a lover. Look, I’m not saying you must settle down with person who’s unattractive. No. Find the attraction, but make sure you’re attracted to this person whom you love more than anything.
    The passion will follow.

I felt this was one of the best episodes done in a while! So many good gems here...Now after 90 min they are a bit boring and too long lol. I hung on and listened to the entire thing. I laughed so hard when he said "I bet that this show has a lot of guys in their 20s are watching this" shout out to all the women watching this show thats geared towards more so males lol.

Great interview, but long.. 👏 So many great questions and discussions in it. Is it possible split the video into partss, reflecting each q&a in separate clip?

By the way, there is an ad under this video with a silk pink fabric labeled “Blissy” with a woman’s hand feeling it with gold jewelry on…and Oprah’s Magazine is one of the sponsors…pushing these terms for profit? 🤔 You can sell happiness and bliss for a limited time only

There's nothing wrong with loving things. I love my car and I love the Moon. I love my guitar and I love my belt sander. In fact, there is nothing in this vast universe that can escape my love.

In order to really talk to someone you first need to show them:
    1) you have their best interest in mind
    2) you understand them
    3) you want to make their life situation better
otherwise whatever you gonna say is just another "Im smarter than you" episode, or a manipulation to reach your own goals at their expense
