I’m Irish Australian and felt very at home in Southie, as well as Quincy and Weymouth when I was there Btw bro that’s an Ivory Coast flag in your comment lmao 🤦🏻♂️
Here for the accents, haha. Came from the area, been out of state for over 10 yrs. I love coming back every so often and getting Dunks and listening to the strong Boston accents. It’s hilarious lol
Back in the dirty ol’ Boston days (60s-90s), we didn’t go to Southie unless there was a festival, where the IRA had an ‘inconspicuous’ booth with pictures of Bobby Sands and rubber bullets. The Orange & Blue Lines south were off limits, unless going to Logan. Nothing romantic about it. It was a dangerous s-hole made famous by movies and tv shows. Respect to the real people who grew up there, loved it and still call it home.
I don’t live in Southie but I work there and am there everyday. There are definitely pros and cons to how much it’s changed. I’m only 31 years old so vaguely remember how it used to be but it’s done a complete 180 since even 10 years ago. The rent is astronomical. Average is probably around $3,000-$3500 a month. Our company just finished building condos on West Broadway across from Capo and they all sold in a couple of days- minimum $990,000 for a 550 square foot studio. It’s insane that a million dollar condo is that small.
All mammals, insects, alligators, octopii are territorial. Being proud of being raised in South Boston is like being proud of being raised in Chernobyl/Little Rock/Squantum. With a touch of Brockton. Not that there's anything wrong with that..
Too bad the neighborhood looks nothing like it did when I was a kid on L Street. And too bad most of the faces you see down there are no longer those you recognize. Our neighborhood died a long time ago.
@@keeppunchin2302 Oh man I'd definitely say closer to 2000, but I think the signs were already there by the late 90s. My family has all since died and I live in Texas these days. Last time I was in Southie was about 3 years ago and it looks like a completely different place now. It's just so damn sad. Our neighborhood is gone, replaced by yuppies and millennials who moved there and gentrified us.
People can show nostalgia for the old neighborhood, it happens everywhere, but for old south or people still there they should remember it changed because people just like them cashed out and at living in scituate, Pembroke and Cape Cod. Not the fault of the new residents that it changed.
Yuppies ruin the sense of community, loyalty, solidarity, etc not just in Southie but all across the state and the country. Yeah I understand crime is down, but there is no more originality.
