      The difference is that fantasy settings have a tendency to make greatswords weigh as much as your whole body for some reason. In real life they are quite fast, nimble weapons.
      Large and awkward to carry? Yes. But not super heavy or unwieldy.

      @@robinswords over the last year and a bit, ive started calling the greatsword by this descriptor
      'the ultimate attack sword'
      for when a halberd is too long and cumbersome,
      and when a longsword or rapier just doesnt have the power or reach to cover a wide area
      you want the greatsword, 'the ultimate attack sword'

      not really, greatswords are still more ineffective in more close and city-like areas, and halberds are usually even less heavy and cumbersome than them
      sure, in the end, halberds are still more clunky in tight spaces if it matters, but nobody would use either weapon in a situation if they had a choice
      and the halberd is like... literally the most often used weapon in the battlefield by knights who aren't mounted
      very few people in comparison to other weapons actually use the greatsword
      there's a reason that zweihanders are almost the only "greatswords" ever used in medieval europe

      Medieval knights didnt use greatswords. It is weapon of elite footman mercenaries of pikemen batallias times. Knights were like 99% cavalry at that times, unlike of early knights from 9-10 centuries, when they may not have horse. And greatswords are not for horseback combat at all.

    • @grimmvand9674
      @grimmvand9674 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Because the greatswords in souls games are literally 300 pound hunks of sharpened metal, no human on earth can even pick up one of those in the games….they are slightly longer than this sword and the blade is about 5 times as wide and 10 times as thick….this sword blade is probably about a quarter of an inch thick at most and about 3 inches wide (edge to edge)….souls greatswords on the other hand are like 5 inches thick and probably almost a foot wide edge to edge…..huge difference

    That's a major difference between Japanese and Korean curved sword techniques. The Korean styles often favor momentum compensation or redirection, creating fluid movement and reducing wrist/forearm strain. There is some of that in Japanese styles, sure, but it's more prominent in Korean curved sword techniques.
