X Multiply is a side-scrolling shooter published by Irem, and similar in style to their earlier R-Type. In 1998, the game was released with Image Fight as a one-disc doublebill on PlayStation and Sega Saturn. In 2019, the game was released on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch as part of Hamster Corporation's Arcade Archives series, marking its first official release outside Japan.

Irem arcade games were absolutely gorgeous to look at because of the amazing art design but absolute hell to play through due to the difficulty.
This is like RType with ALL nasty bio-disgusting levels really the perfect shooter. Life Force and Abadox fuck it up by going non-organic after level 3
or whatever. I love this game cant believe I just found it
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539 Life Force had a reason for why they seemingly ditched the bio theme. The story wasn't about you being inside a creature, it was you saving Planet Ratis. Although, this depends on the version you're playing. There's a version released for the Arcade that did include the bio theme.
A lot of shmups have bodyhorror in them, but this one is the most bodyhorrory of them all.
This dude makes it look easy, I still can't get past the second boss!
Its hard because your ships hitbox is too big. Really any bullet that grazes you kills you also the Tentacles protect you but the enemys force you
towards other enemys constantly

It takes place inside the human body, that's why the start up screen shows a person. Speaking of the story, it's downright terrifying, from the flyer:
"In the year 2249, many immigrants died in mysterious ways on a planet colonized by the human race far away in space. Scientists attributed the death of shock caused by micro-alien parasitizing them, and sent here a miniaturized fighter plane X-002 into a human body."
The aliens literally transformed a victim from the inside out before killing them - that's why the visuals look so foreign. The second half of the third level shows villi and some of the alien skeletons being lodged in it, which implies many things. Either it's showing the immune systems last ditch effort to fight off the alien infection, or it shows what was left of the person's humanity on the inside after the aliens took over. That's just a really scary concept for a Sci-Fi Horror SHMUP.
@@GBAura I'm not wrong, the Queen of the microscopic Aliens was located inside this human female host which is already terminal judging by the title screen so the exploration team inside the X-002 is inserted inside her nose all the way down to her uterus to destroy the Queen.
Humans won, but at what cost? Defeating the Queen isn't going to heal all the other people infected, that is probably what meant her final words: "I have wisdom, I have power (...) I shall plague you forever!", it would be pretty ironic if the pilots get infected too after returning to normal size.
Lastly I'd like to add, Granzella confirmed that R-Type Leo, In the Hunt and Mr. Heli are "canon" in their own universes connected by Warp Space or the Graveyard of Trans-Dimensional fighters, so pretty much X-Multiply is just another "What if" of mankind (And possibly Bydo), but they recovered the fighter that turned in the base for the RX-12 Cross the Rubicon.
@@NCC-0000 Does it have to be a woman? That's gross. I'd like to see a remake inside of a guy. I always preferred this thing done to guys, because when I saw it done to girls, it was usually creepy/gross. This game would've given me nightmares. The whole Fantastic Voyage scenario done to guys I like is actually a comfort scenario of mine.

@@kawanxros The whole mid to late 80s and early 90s was into this kind of stuff thanks to the Aliens series, even Streets of Rage 2 (of all things) had a Giger-esque level

Damn, I never knew this game existed. Wished I played it because side scrollers were my favorite video games to play back during the arcades days especially if it's from irem.

the engine is probly same. the code of the actual game . those green ceiling enemies 17:59 are the same from r-type 2 2nd level only they dont fly upwards. i think its the same sprite
This must have been a great arcade game if you use the Tentacles just right you might get really far on 1 quarter.
