    The 064-066 cylinders don’t interchange without modification just like the 046 cylinder on a 044.
    I’ve run square ground chain here in wv for years, it cuts hardwood fine. Mix oil is so important in ported saws 32:1 is all I run in mine.

    When I was a young man we logged and sawmilled hell bent for leather and the horse I rode was a hot rod 064 with a 28” bar limping and Buckin white pine . Me and Dad were always Mac guys but that damn 064 won use over. And sounds like you need to let that saw eat and quit riding it and dawning in so hard. Your just showing your arse son.

    Maybe this saw can break your hatred for stihls. I’ve never ran the 064, but I’ve ran a 066 in bigger oak than that and the waterfall off wood chips is a site to see. Awesome power!

    Idles fast when warming it up cuz rings haven't seated yet. No use tuning it till its warmed up. Chains are getting better. Never seen chips flowing out of one of your saws like that.

      "The trees are always smaller in person"
      "500i in oak"
      The last one I built was hotter than either of those but the 7900 is my go-to firewood saw

    Round hand file done. Your a c83 fan boy but once they get dull do you just throw them away? Stihl RS , Oregon EXL or Carlton A1LM in the 3/8 chain is where you should be to learn how to sharpen chain.

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I bought a whole roll of C83. It is definitely fastest out of the box for me. But once it dulls...smaller tooth with less life, and I can never get it nice and sharp again. I still use it and sharpen as needed, but it's a struggle. Wish I had gotten a roll of Oregon EXL.

    • @Sawmods
      @Sawmods ปีที่แล้ว

      @@novicelumberjack The Oregon EXL is nice. Once you get about 1/2 way down the tooth with a few sharpenings they start to cut like mad. Im not a fan of square ground. They might cut faster in softwood but I dont see the benefit in hardwood. Of all the square ground chain ive tried ive always just ended up round filing them.

    The square chain will not like that hard stuff is my prediction...when you get to that part.
    We hated 064 back in the day so bad we were glad to see the 044 even though they were weak as branch water. But the 064 seems pretty cool now that I don't have one😂

  • @kylecromp319
    @kylecromp319 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Old flat top for the win! These and the 066 like to be dogged in and torquing through the wood. I dont care for the big side cover though. They dont shot a rooster tail like the small side covers do……. I like to spray people with chips what can i say

    • @kylecromp319
      @kylecromp319 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that has an elasto pull cord it will seem low on compression

    • @IndianaDoug
      @IndianaDoug ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kyle😂. I agree though my 64 hits the power band just right when it’s dogged in and torqued on.

  • @IndianaDoug
    @IndianaDoug ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That chain sucks😂. People who run saws can tell that 64 has got it goin on regardless of the chain.

    Dang Boedy that's a HOT chainsaw right there! And i will attest that dried out red oak or any dried out oak is some of the hardest wood on earth to cut the only wood i would say that's harder is dried out locust, but that
    Stihl ms064 is a torque monster there may be a new KING on the hill!! But that Husqvarna 281xp is fast or should i say Bobby Bushay is fast?! Lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

      Dried Osage orange or commonly known as hedge apple. I’d put it up against dry oak and locust. Gotta be at least as hard IMO

      @@aaronneher4860 yea it probably is I don't know if there is any around where I live atleast I haven't seen any Osage orange or heard of it until a year or so ago when I was watching a YT channel and Indians were making their bows out of it but it is a beautiful wood!

    The 64 is to the 66 the same as the 44 is to the 46. A lighter alternative. The 46 ,and the 66 are just a little heavier duty. Thing is the 64, and the 44 will last longer than you if you take decent care of them. There is a weight difference.

    • @Leave_Nothing_Stock
      @Leave_Nothing_Stock ปีที่แล้ว +1

      064 was the predecessor. When they went to the 066 they went with a wider (heavier) flywheel, and wider (heavier) starter to match and then I believe a wider (heavier) gas tank to go with the larger displacement. Went backwards in the name of progress if you ask me. What else is new

    • @tedneitzel
      @tedneitzel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Leave_Nothing_Stockthat thing seems fast and smooth as silk! I'm not sure yet what's on your channel but I'm a believer and new subscriber! Well done!!

    • @timothybyrom5560
      @timothybyrom5560 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Leave_Nothing_Stock They also beefed the crank up on the pto side. I like the 44,and the 64 better if I'm packing them, but if you're running a mill the 44,and the 66 are a little more durable. If I had my way one day I would go back to that era, and I would start with the 028 super,and I would own everything up to the 64. Those were the days when Stihl was king. There would be a whole series of Jonsereds I would own too. Then I would get into the Olympyks. Those saws were TOUGH!

    @cortraulston218 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ll say with my experience.. which isn’t really that long, but! I’ve tried all different types of ways to sharpen chains.. I’ve found that round hand filing has worked best for me. It didn’t take me long to get the hang of it, I know everyone’s experience is different but practice is important and being able to eyeball what you’re doing and what works. It’s vague and sounds easier said than done but practice. I’ll say I’ve seen people practice the wrong ways and their technique screws them every time. You just find that rhythm and get the gullet, they gotta be able to spit out those chips.
