    For my money the two best saws Stihl ever made are the 200T, especially for those who climb, and the 064. Amazing saw those 64’s. Great content. Ty

    👍👍 I think the knowledgeable folks talk about blowdown too, but they have the wisdom of knowing how much intake/crankcase size will make it run well. Nice job!

    There's no replacement for displacement!!! That's why that 064 can keep the ram's up but buddy that 7900 is no slouch I'd be proud of that!!! Awesome job

    Really like how the 7900 runs. Only have one question did you take 40th off the base and run it with no gasket?
    Big fan off your channel like the way you approach things👍🏻.

    Before you ship that saw off, it would be nice to see if the HD filter is holding the saw back. Don't get me wrong, you did a fine job on the saw. The "sewing circle" claims the stock filter flows more air than the HD. Be interesting if you could rig up a more traditional filter and see if it actually made a difference.

    • @Dolmar-Rick
      @Dolmar-Rick ปีที่แล้ว

      heard that about the hd filter. I've tried both, and I'm not sure, I did have to tune it slightly on the hd filter. Dunno how it can be much worse it has a bigger surface area. The only thing is that maybe the elbow slows the flow down a bit as never tested back to back, I think they perform worse with stock exhaust/slr and not tuning the high jet from my limited testing. Definitely needs a muffler mod🤷🏻‍♂️

    Dam straight it’s all about cutting the wood. Think of how much wood you have processed with a stock saw. Does any saw really suck if it cuts? I know how much you like the ms170, well I ran my buddys cutting way to big of wood until it overheated and didn’t want start after refueling. Guess what, it still runs today even after that abuse. And no I would not recommend that saw to anyone. I’m still waiting for you to get a new shirt in your store. When you do leave out the TH-cam logo. I’d recommend using your channel logo and place it on the pocket of shirt if you can get pocketed shirts. Everyone needs a pocket on there shirt.

      Still a few out there but guessing the deals are long gone. I like mine a lot but it’s no 066. Not in stock form anyway. Now if I only knew someone that could turn it up a little. lol

      @@dgoodman1484 a little hard to compare a 92cc saw to a 79cc saw. I don’t have either. My biggest is a Poulan 5200 (85cc). I love running it. Any chance you are in upstate NY? I’d work on it for you.

      @dgoodman1484 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @dgoodman1484
      @dgoodman1484 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The big difference between the two (obviously besides the size difference) is the epa stuff like the choked muffler, limited coil and hard to clean up the carb. 80cc is plenty if a guy could just clean them up a little and get them to run like a 90’s saw. Heck even my little stock 034 supers will outrun my modded 620’s and the new 562. The 562 shows some pretty good potential but betting it won’t hold up like my old stihls have. Luckily I don’t run them 60 hrs a week like I once did so I’m sure it’ll be fine. Still wish that 7900 ran as clean as my little ea5000 does. It’s great for its size 👍🏼

    Interesting vid there. Strange how you said the dolly is pulling higher rpm. I actually thought the stihl was spining faster in the cut from the sound before you put side by side...kinda sounds more tinny. thought the stihl was gonna win but the dolly surprised me. Very deceiving, they looked very even but tune on the dolly sounded like could be leaned a tad though hard to tell from the sound on here😂. Nice job though👍

  • @Ketis1985
    @Ketis1985 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since you say blowdown does not matter... i wonder how you gonna make power from fresh air fuel charge that is lost out of the muffler because your transfers are too high....?

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good one! Seriously. If you are losing charge out the exhaust, the way I see it is still directed at the transfers. It's simple and you already said it- the transfers are too high. Having too little blowdown is nonsensical. Think about it...did your exhaust not have enough time to escape? Nope. In fact, it had too much time and has taken some fresh charge with it. Blowdown is a description of how long the exhaust has to escape the cylinder, measured in degrees of crankcase rotation. Well, if that's all it is, then why does it change between different saws that have the exact same piston diameter? Different blowdown numbers give various different power characteristics. Why is that? Does one saw flow out the exhaust better than others? Certainly this is a possibility, but I feel certain it is because of the different transfer heights...NOT blowdown. The transfer height changes when fuel charge comes in, and for how long. This is what changes your power characteristics, NOT blowdown. The folly comes in people referencing the blowdown duration when talking about power characteristics when they should be talking about transfer heights and crankcase pressure. In your example, you didn't need more blowdown. The exhaust had plenty of time to get out, it actually had too much time for the exhaust to leave. What it needs is either shorter transfers...or advance the timing. It's a different way of looking at things. Blowdown does not effect power characteristics. It is simply the amount of time the exhaust has to leave before the transfers activate.
