It's no joke about being the center of attention when out in public with them. I'm a Saint owner & my good friend has a Newfie. Whether it be riding in a car, walking, or going to a local pet friendly retailer, the attention they get is unreal. Our Giants enjoy the love and pets they receive. They actually expect people to come up and pet them. Some confused looks at thrown at strangers that don't stop to say "Hi".
That's so cute, it's like they know they are cute and expect to get the love they deserve! 😊
With two such large dogs, I am not surprised that you draw all the attention. I would love to see you out and about! Two such love bugs in person would be irresistible!

my aunt has an old english sheepdog and she says the same thing 😂
I have 3 Chihuahuas, and they draw a lot of attention too. I don't think the size matter.
It’s so sad that the life expectancy of these dogs is so short they deserve so many more years
Life Expectations is actually 10 to 12 years, some I seen 14 years. I've have own three Newfies myself.
My friend's newfie will be 16 soon and she's seems to be doing fine with plenty life left in her for being such an elderly lady
It's like ferrets, I've never had one last past 6 years until recently.
It all depends on the genetics.
Both of my newfies lived to 12.

Hagrid’s eyes are so tender and gentle. He’s the size of a pony, but his heart is even bigger 😍🥰😍🥰 He’s a gorgeous boy!
Thanks again for grooming him! It was a great trip across the border and he is still very fluffy and smells great! He does counter surf and get into cabinets. No food left unattended is safe with Hagrid in the house.

I played Santa for a PetSmart event once. Visitors could bring in their pets to pose for a photo with me, and they would get the Polaroid for free. I am a very small female, so even with the padding in the full Santa suit and beard on, I was not very large. Someone brought in TWO Newfoundlands to pose next to me, one on either side, and you can barely see me in the photo. They were both leaning on me, and I thought I was going to collapse 😂

I recently lost one of my beloved Newfoundland Dogs to old age / kidney failure. He was 12 and a half years old. His mate is currently 11 and a half years old. Though she has slowed down a lot in the last 6 months, she is still going strong.
If you ever decide to get a Newfoundland Dog, make sure you get one for a reputable breeder. This way you will have as many years as possible with them.
You will never regret getting a Newfie.
We got a Newfoundlander with a Saint Bernard mix. Lovebale Companions, it will hit hard when he is not around anymore. Alos im sorry for your lose.
That's do true. I lost my newfie in 2'17 and there was no day when I was not thinking of getting another.
12 years is a long life for a Newfie, you must've taken really good care of him and his mate!
And don't let them get overweight it's people letting them get fat that shortens the life, sorry for your loss.
@@davidwhitton9050 That is definitely true. Excess weight on any Giant-Breed dog is detrimental to their health.
I fear some people want their dog to be bigger, so they allow the dog to gain a few pounds. But they are still a big dig when at the proper weight!
My boys mate passed 2 weeks shy of her 12th birthday back at the end of April. She was an amazing dog and I miss both of them dearly.
I know they are together as a mated pair on the other side of Rainbow Bridge. One day I'll get to feel the warmth of the Newfie sandwich with both at my side again.
Considering that he's an older large breed dog I'm actually astounded he stayed standing for that groom. 10000000% good boy. Incredible performance

@@seanrosenau2088 usually older dogs get sore joints and big breeds especially get hip problems later in life so they tend to want to sit down to avoid straining themselves
@@seanrosenau2088 Giant breeds are notorious for their joint issues combined that with old age and you have a dog who usually wouldn't want to stand. Newfies don't stand on the best of days let alone when they get older.
I am originally from Newfoundland and we are proud of these gorgeous, gigantic boys and girls! They are so friendly, gentle and loving, such wonderful dogs. Hagrid is a fine example of the best of this historic breed.
Same here...pretty good for a small island to have claim to both Newfoundland dogs and the ever popular Labs! Drool ever lasting with these hairy buggers! Gotta love em...sloppy jaws or no!

I absolutely love his "I'll just stand here and you do whatever" attitude. Every groomer's dream, I imagine
Usually it turns into "I'll just sit here and you do whatever" really quick. Then good luck brushing his butt, which is now under 180lb/80kg of dog. Newfies are an unbelievable amount of work to groom. But they are angels.

We finally got our family Newfoundland groomed today after trying to get him groomed last week and he was quite the showstopper at the groomer's. I'm so proud of our gentle giant.
My aunt had a Newfie when I was a kid and she was the sweetest, best dog ever. The only thing was she never quite realized she had gotten much bigger than she was as a puppy, and would often upend the coffee table because she thought she could fit under it. My aunt quickly learned to keep tables and counters clear. 😆

My mother used to tell me stories about Bobby her uncle's Newfoundland dog. He used to be her furry best friend. Bobby howling to the moon, Bobby loving to get snowed in, her sharing her snacks with Bobby, Bobby pulling the milk cart to the cheese dairy together with his Bernese Mountain dog pal. Must have been good times!

We were very fortunate that our 140 lb Landseer Newf stayed with us for 13.5 years! She was such an amazing little princess.
What an amazing gentle giant, he must have a very loving home life.
The first Newfie I ever met was on a hiking trail, he came bounding at me through the trees from the opposite direction. I stopped in shock! It was bear country. Fortunately his humans were not far behind him and hollard to let me know he was friendly and he definitely was a big lump of love.

they shouldve kept him on a leash (if he wasnt) because some people get a *TON* of anxiety from big dogs (like me) and its really unsettling and genuinely horrifying to see a huge dog plunge at you through the woods when youre just trying to take a soothing hike.

@@kittiq Yea I walk my dog off leash , but i always try to keep a look out for others, for that exact same reason (I've seen people literally petrified by my Boxer/Pit hybrid) even though he was on leash, although sometimes you can't see the person coming, especially if the woods, but yea always good to leash if you see people & dogs close by

I like that you give realistic info on the breed you're grooming. Just because it's adorable doesn't mean it's suitable for every household, as our overflowing shelters can attest to...
Lifespan is a HUGE consideration for me, so that was nice to hear as well. My current pooch is 16 and counting...and I don't think I would want a newfie due to the lifespan. Too much heartache too often...
Exactly.... Same with the Berneses. I can't understand why would anyone choose knowingly that heartache after such a short time.

@@embersaffron5522 If you adopt them, yes. Any dog deserves the world. But to own a large dog that was bred intentionally, to have it for 8 years, which are like 2 minutes, no thank you.

My great Pyrenees boy lasted nearly 12 years. He was slowing down but doing well then suddenly wasn't. I still miss him. He was the move loveable big boy I've ever had. 🥰

There is a therapy dog at my campus whose name is also Hagrid. He's only 2 years old but looks like an old man. (Mega mutt with extremely wired hair) He's extremely calm without a care in the world. The name definitely suits this Newfie as well!

For those who don't know, Newfoundland dogs were bred to rescue fishermen caught in frigid Newfoundland waters. So they have the temperament, strength and stamina of a rescuing breed, and the water-fondness of a water dog.

Shedding season starts in April. Drooling season is year round.
Funny because my daughter (12) and I were talking about large breeds of dogs today and I recalled that A good childhood friend of mine had 2 newfs. The female was very old and not friendly but the younger male was such a big, gentle boy. Such beautiful dogs! Hagrid looks fantastic! ❤️

Sarah, you're not wrong about the drool. I have two Great Danes, and I knew it was a drooly breed, but the state of my walls, couches, appliances, even ceilings is a disaster. They shake and fling drool EVERYWHERE.
I pulled into my driveway one evening after dark and was startled to see a huge "bear" lumbering down my sidewalk toward my car. But he calmly walked past me on his way down the alley. My heart was thumping, but it was just my neighbor's Newfoundland that had gotten loose. He evidently had places to go and things to see.
Love this! I can tell you from experience that owning a Newfie is not cheap. I'd say we spent at least $250 per month between grooming, vet bills (ear infections that no meds seemed to work) food, toys, etc. Was it worth it? If you can afford it? Absolutely!! We had a chocolate brown Newfie named Molly - got her when she was 3yrs old and she stayed with us until she went over the Rainbow Bridge at 10 yrs old on Christmas Eve 2018. We still miss her 😪 but she enriched our lives in so many ways. Newfies are the best!
He and Winston the English Mastiff are my favorite dogs on this channel. When I was a kid, there was a Newf living not far away from my home. His name was Teddy as far as I remember. Very fitting indeed. I used to visit him regularly and even took him for a walk, allthough he was way heavier than me at that time. Guess that's what startet my love for giant dogs. After my Goldie passed away three years ago, I never had a dog again. But if I ever were to get another one, a Newf or a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog would be on top of my list. Go big or go home.
I love Hagrid and Winston. I hope The Girl with the Dogs does a purebred Basset Hound in the future. Bassets are my favorite because they’re adorable, low-energy, and you cannot mistake them for any other dog breed.

I love Newfies! My bod just turned 6 and I was blown away by how fast time has gone by. The thought of my sweet boy nearing the end of his time here on earth is so sad. He’s still very happy and full of energy as if he were a puppy! We actually got a female Newfie puppy and are excited to see her grow up! I love their sweet temperament. My boy is just like you said, always happy to be here 😂 doesn’t matter if he’s at the dog park or the vet!

I love big dogs, like newfoundlands, great Danes, st Bernards, and GSDs, but you just mentioned all the reasons I decided not to get one. I'm also worried I might not be able to control a large dog if s/he decides to go rogue while not adequately trained, seeing as I already have a hard time wrestling my hulk of a cat whenever I tried to do something he didn't like.

1:25 I have an irish wolfhound and literally everything you said is true 😅 Expensive (although technically you get more for the same price as a smaller breed so good price per pound) in a lot of ways, you need to have enough space for them to curl up or splatter next to you everywhere at every time of the day and you can't go anywhere without people saying the same "is that a horse?" joke or have them come to you and your dog to chat about how big and beautiful they are 😅
