Good news for you, that is a 3 speed automatic transmission and you can actually push start them, will turn the engine at about 18 mph in low, do NOT tow very far or fast with rear wheels on the ground. The reason most 57 birds don't use bumper exhaust ports is heat discoloration. I've been driving mine for 30 years, with front disk brakes, rear sway bar and good radials they are very durable good handling cars even by todays standards. I don't know of any other production car built 51/49 balance. You've got a very nice car and with correct engine oil it will last longer than all of us. Built to be driven so that's what we do.

I believe that was the most beautiful car ever built. Back in 1972 I was at a dealership looking for a truck and they had a 57 thunderbird on the lot. I was talked into a test drive as the salesman seemed to be really pushing it. Probably because it's not a practical vehicle and was considered just old at the time, but I fell in love with it. Ended up with a '68 F-100 which wasn't a mistake, I couldn't kill that thing. I finally traded it in with 220,000 miles on it. Thinking about it today, that was a "what if" moment in my life.
