Dental hygiene is really important. You reminded me I need to brush my teeth. I literally have to write myself notes to remember. My dentist said to use Listerine with the purple kind because it has flouride. I think it's great that you are a dentist. My grandpa on my dad's side was a dentist, my dentist is the one that takes over for the one who took over for my grandpa or something. I've been trying to go to the dentist 3 times a year, because my dad wants that. I'm going back to Crest because I think the kind I'm using now, isn't ADA approved. Dr. Grant, what are those things called that aren't the strings of floss, but the other kind? I prefer the other kind.
I'm glad you found a way to remind yourself to brush 🙂 Grant actually said that sometimes dentists want you to go more frequently & that's great to do that, but I had to cut it out because the audio was messed up. I'm so glad you go so frequently! I didn't realize it either, but the one I had been using wasn't ADA approved so I switched to Sensodyne a few months ago for my sensitive teeth. The floss I held up I think is called Floss Picks. I love using those because I think they're so much easier ❤️ It makes me so happy to hear about your grandpa, & that you love learning & talking about dental stuff so much 🥰
Hi, I wanted to ask about your guy's opinions on Sensodyne whitening toothpastes and Colgate total. It would be great if you guys can do a video on toothpaste recommendations like non whitening stannous fluoride toothpastes :)
I’ve always brushed first too. It feels weird to switch, but I’m trying! No no no don’t feel guilty! No judgment girl! Just try to remember to brush after but don’t let it freak you out 💗
Aww thanks so much Samantha! We definitely had fun filming this one 😅 I'm going to keep trying to get him to film with me. I just need to think of more video ideas ☺️💗
It's so embarrassing to admit, but I've chatted with my new dentist about this really recently - I just never developed good dental habits as a kid. Unfortunately it's turned out to be freaking expensive as I'm getting into my mid-30's. It's absolutely horrible to think, but I feel like I wasn't reaalllllyyy being told/warned how things were going inside my mouth so I never really took it too seriously. Then when this group of hygienists and the dentist himself retired and sold his practice and the new (younger) staff came in, I was hit straight-forward with some reality. Frustrating, to say the least. Trying to develop new/better habits (for anything in life, really) or break old habits can be really difficult. Anyway. That's just the kind of long winded way to say I really appreciate the Dr. Grant video(s) and advice. It's really nice to get honest and not-judgmental information from a young doctor.
Full disclosure; I am not a dentist. So I am not coming at this from an expert's point of view. So I am open and willing to be corrected if I am wrong or in any way missinformed. But I am very concerned about any type of oral hygiene advice; especially from a professional; which does not includes the importance of thoroughly brushing the tongue until it has a pink hue (and doesn't explain why). And also does not includes the importance of brushing the roof of the mouth. I understand that technically you may achieve a "better smile" without doing any of the aforementioned acts; as the title of this TH-cam video reads. So technically these TH-cam hosts cleared the bar they set for themselves. I enjoyed all the tips you gave with the exception of what you omitted. And I like your on-screen chemistry. I only comment on people I like. This is not a troll or any sort of hate. Thanks for reading and please continue making TH-cam videos.
Oh my god, I used to watch this channel years ago and this video suddenly popped into my feed, so glad you're doing well Sara! And thanks for the advice Grant! :D
Thank you both this video was both informal and entertaining. I have a question for Dr. Grant - Are using floss picks as effective as traditional floss? Finally to answer your question Sara - I floss first and then brush my teeth.
Thanks so much Katherine! So he says that traditional floss is better & that’s what he actually uses. I use the floss picks because they’re easier, but I know I should really use the regular floss to get a better, deeper clean. Traditional floss is best, but dental pick floss is better than no floss 👍🏼 I hope I relayed that clearly enough. And way to go flossing your teeth first- sounds like you take amazing care of your teeth ☺️💜
Yaaaas, I’ve been doing it right! I don’t use mouthwash though. The thought of having clean teeth then flossing after always grossed me out because I see it as the floss is getting out all the gross stuff from in between my teeth and smearing it onto my clean pearl whites after having been cleaned 🥴. I’m curious though on what he thinks about using toothpaste with fluoride, which is what my family and I have always used but rarely use mouthwashes.
Hello! Just watched a couple of your videos referencing the care of our teeth. Unfortunately, I have chronic dry mouth, extremely bad; and I get white stuff (I believe its bacteria at the back of my tongue and a little forward...it is SO frustrating! I brush my tongue everyday to remove it and it returns so quickly...it causes bad breath.😣 Any natural remedies to help eliminate DRY MOUTH? Any suggestions to relieve me of the mentioned white bacteria constantly on my tongue? My dentist have not an answer. I look forward to your reply. Thank you!
Hahahahahahahahaha you really made me CRACKup 😆 not only you guys are hilarious, you’re such a cute and fun couple. I was smiling all through the video and I loved how wife had all the props to show and assist the Doc ☺️. It’s so generous of you to create this content, full of knowledgeable tips, you can’t imagine the benefits! The advice in this video is golden. You nailed it, because this is stuff that I consider free life lessons. Anyone like me, that ends up randomly in your channel and gets to see this video, receives the gift of being educated, or reminded that a lot of us take for granted oral hygiene, when mouth health should be No. 1 priority in wellness and selfcare; much more important than many other things that really aren’t. I’ve been an advocate of floss and mouthwash since an early age, I have 3 kids now (4, 7, 9) who love to wash their teeth since they were little (2-3 year-olds), I was asked many times how I managed that, because it seems that normally little kids give moms trouble, tantrums and a daily tough time refusing to brush their teeth. I believe setting the example helped. When it was time to teach them how to brush themselves, I made it a ritual, and for the next years we would brush our teeth together like if it were a family daily event 😁 (Like following the same concept that households should every day, at least once, sit down at the table and share a good family meal, together). I also made it fun, and took the time to go get them cool brushes and a nice rinsing cup. I would also exaggerate how much I enjoyed brushing ☺️. They would see me in the mirror making smiley faces and letting them know how good it felt to have clean teeth. I also did something else. Before showing them, I looked for pictures on the internet of decaying teeth (obviously not “nightmare shocking”) and let them see what happened when you neglected teeth care. I explained to them not only how your smile can look awfully creepy, but how painful and miserable a toothache can be 😉. And that sometimes it can get so bad that the dentist has to end up pulling them all out 🙄. We make teeth care such a big deal that they even get to miss a couple of hours of school just to make it to their yearly appointments. They have their teeth checked twice a year, plus they get their deep cleaning. Aside from the money, the Tooth Fairy ALWAYS leaves them a rewarding message and encouraging advice. Regarding the video, I personally appreciated a lot of the info in it, specially the food tips which I tend to forget, ALL your tips are awesome! Thanks doc and wife 😊!!! I will, from now on, spread the word that brushing without flossing is like showering without washing your CRACK . 😂😂😂😂 I find this the best ANALogy I’ve ever heard! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thank you so much !!! ❤️❤️❤️
I've always brushed first but I guess I'll have to try doing it the other way around. This was also the reminder I needed to actually use my mouthwash after brushing.
Ha, I'm still having a hard time getting used to flossing first ever since we filmed this video 🤪 It's such a hard habit to break! Thanks so much for watching 💜
The tips are great! Definitely need to floss more and I lost it when he said the crack part!🤣😂 I used to have really bad teeth didn’t take care of them as much scared and was judged by a few dentists and finally I found a dentist I absolutely love! The nurses and everyone there is amazing I’m no longer nervous about going I get so excited about it. Dentists are one of the best professions out there they really help people becoming more confident in their smile!😁 Thank you both for the great tips!😁💞
Is there a mouthwash that you recommend that's unflavored? I've been using Closy's mouth rinse, but it doesn't say anticavity. I'm just not very fond of strong mint flavor.
Such a cute and helpful video!! I do mouthwash, floss and then brush! I will def use anti-cavity/fluoride mouthwash last (no rinsing) during my bedtime brushing though thanks to these tips🦷😊
I've always flossed first because it seems more logical as you're pulling plaque & bacteria from between your teeth out to the surface & you'd want to brush it all away. But I don't know if that's true or not, its just my thought process. Lol.
This video was made on my birthday. Just came to this for tips. I;m 22 years old and never been to a dentist and have been looking it into going the last few weeks.
Happy belated birthday! You should definitely go to the dentist- it's so important to care for your teeth! I hope you find a great dentist who you can trust & will help you take great care of your mouth 😊
If you floss after brushing, you would get the junk out and it would sit there. Hmmm ... SEEMED like a no-brainer. He is so patient. He loves you SO much! Very sweet. NO SUGAR!!! KETO!!! HA! :)
Wow feel so jealous looking at you guys perfect teeth.i do floss but is there like a proper way to do this? Can you do a flossing tutorial ? I sound stupid but i struggle with my back teeth.also thoughts on veeners?? Im saving for those at the mo.xx love your vids
Hey Orla, you don't sound stupid at all! It's hard to understand the correct way to floss until you actually know you're doing it correctly. I've actually been trying to get Grant to film a flossing video with me so I really appreciate the suggestion! You want to insert the floss between your teeth then curve the floss around each side of your teeth along your gums then pull the floss out & move on to the next tooth. I know that string floss is technically the "best" option for flossing, but I find that the dental floss picks make my life so much easier so I tend to use those more frequently. If you're having trouble, you might try those out. Sorry I know it's super confusing trying to explain this in text instead of video format. Hopefully we'll have a proper flossing video soon! Also, about the veneers, not everyone needs them, but I do know they might be the best option for certain people. I think it's so important to find a dentist who you really trust & get his/her opinion. Don't be afraid to get more than one opinion to make sure you're making the best choice for you. Wishing you lots of luck in your journey. Thanks so much for watching! 💛
Wow, I didn’t realize I was supposed to floss first. Did anybody else know this??Good tip about not rinsing our the anti cavity mouthwash before going to bed so the fluoride can continue doing its job while we sleep.
Hey there! I use Sensodyne & Grant likes to try a different type of Crest toothpaste every time he runs out 😅 I think the last one he used was Crest Gum Detoxify & he liked it.
I am so bad at remembering to brush at night, I feel seen. Haha! OMG I did not see THE CRACK coming hahahaha. Damn, I always learn a lot from these videos with Grant..I really need to book that appointment!
🤣🤣🤣 Just try to remember to brush or chew gum after. Or Grant even tells me to swish with a little water if I can't do either of those. You keep enjoying your sweet wine 😅

I’ve always brushed before flossing. I won’t now. Also feeling super guilty about falling asleep after drinking a coke. 😯
I’ve always brushed first too. It feels weird to switch, but I’m trying! No no no don’t feel guilty! No judgment girl! Just try to remember to brush after but don’t let it freak you out 💗

How do you feel about Waterpiks? Is that almost as good as flossing or should we be doing both?

You should do like a monthly video or something where he gives dental hygiene tips or dental product recommendations
I've always brushed first but I guess I'll have to try doing it the other way around. This was also the reminder I needed to actually use my mouthwash after brushing.

Regular floss vs a water flosser?
These are good tips since I don't really know how to smile..i look weird when I smile.
Is there a mouthwash that you recommend that's unflavored? I've been using Closy's mouth rinse, but it doesn't say anticavity. I'm just not very fond of strong mint flavor.
Great tips, I floss first. I learned that doing my dental assistant program but I used to brush then floss.
So great! Kudos to you for knowing to floss first 😊 and it is awesome you're a dental assistant Kassandra!
I love seeing you guys you look so great together
Such a cute and helpful video!! I do mouthwash, floss and then brush! I will def use anti-cavity/fluoride mouthwash last (no rinsing) during my bedtime brushing though thanks to these tips🦷😊
Should we floss everyday? I thought once a week was ok.
Thanks for this video.
what a perfect couple - great to see.... very funny chemistry - loved it
Aww thank you so much Stevi 🥰

My toothbrush has a flossing brush head is that ok or should I use actual floss
Great advice and u 2 are a cute couple thanks for posting!
what tooth paste do you use?
Important tip the Dr. missed, be gentle when brushing. Suppper important.
Gentle brushing & soft bristled toothbrushes are definitely important 🙂
If you floss after brushing, you would get the junk out and it would sit there. Hmmm ... SEEMED like a no-brainer. He is so patient. He loves you SO much! Very sweet. NO SUGAR!!! KETO!!! HA! :)
Thank you so much guys great tips 😁

What are some toothpaste that you can recommend?
Hey there! I use Sensodyne & Grant likes to try a different type of Crest toothpaste every time he runs out 😅 I think the last one he used was Crest Gum Detoxify & he liked it.
Thank you 😊
I floss before brushing, its like mopping before sweeping doesnt make sense.
Best analogy ever!!!
Does your husband do Cerecs in his office. thats what i do at my clinic
I floss first because I feel like all of the food coming out of my teeth from flossing would sit in my mouth and not go anywhere
I am so bad at remembering to brush at night, I feel seen. Haha! OMG I did not see THE CRACK coming hahahaha. Damn, I always learn a lot from these videos with Grant..I really need to book that appointment!
🤣🤣🤣 Grant got a little wild on us this time!!!
👏👏👏👏😂 floss for sure
Floss first! The crack part though 😂😭😭💀
Way to go Josi! Ha, Grant got a little wild on us in this video 🤣
Josi Renteria so funny!
She looks identical to Katie B from Jatie Vlogs!!
Hey, she's gorgeous. So thanks 😊
ofc, you’re gorgeous too!
Liisterine blue
7:11 for a summary
Ok so we floss first & then brush. I always brush & then floss.
I always brushed first then flossed too before we filmed this video! Ha, it's not bad to do it that way, it's just "better" to floss first 😊
Here I am checking all the products they recommended.. lol
I always floss first :)
🥳 Way to go!
*spits out my sweet wine while learning about not letting your teeth rest in sugar all day* 😬😬😬😬
🤣🤣🤣 Just try to remember to brush or chew gum after. Or Grant even tells me to swish with a little water if I can't do either of those. You keep enjoying your sweet wine 😅
Brush first. Bit I’ll try flossing first!
Yup.. doctor doctor .. by Iron Maiden
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! FLOSS! HAHAHAHAAAHAAAAA!
