Very informative video! Well done. With the language thing its important to also point out that there are so many languages/dialects in Mozambique that after independence it was important to have 1 language that unified people and could allow delivery of services such as education. Moreover, i remember reading about the challenge of tribalism and regionalism in Moz, a way to try to bring unity was also to encourage ppl to see Mozambicans as 1 people and language was a way to achieve this.
I was just there 2 months ago I love Maputo I visited the fishmarket really enjoyed the fishmarket by the way.I can't wait to come back for Christmas!Maputo has my heart ♥️

Good job! We live in NJ, USA. We enjoyed this video and learn more about Maputo. We find interesting the fact about the time. In South America the are a lot of people who are always late but they probably don't have the same excuse ;P
Good information I enjoyed your video my African ancestry came back on my father side is Portuguese and mother side Hausa&fulani of Nigeria. I must say this Video reminds me of America non of us knows our true mother tongue.
Hey/Oi 😊 I'm from Poland and I am thinking of visiting Mozambique. I loved the videos (both 1st and updated version). Is it possible to connect with you in a more direct way(than commentaries on TH-cam)? I have so many questions 😅😂
Nice! Unfortunately Moz was closed out from thecrest of Africa by the language barrier. Only 10....need more. Mmm....fluent in Portuese and English (how did get you English..)..but not Xangana... More please. ❤ from 🇰🇪

I live in Maputo Sister, Changana isn't that lost, most of the people even from the town do speak this language and it was only kinda lost here, cuz in Gaza(yes we have a province called Gaza in Mozambique) everyone speaks Changana. Some people from the City of Maputo don't know, but most of them do know. And the places of the town are actually full of not mozambican people. Are Full of tourists. Personal security goes by neighborhoods. I’ve detailed it in my Maputo guide. Power cuts are not as common tbh. I’d say less than 5 times a month. A generator is always best ofc 🙌🏾
Hello Yara First of all, thank you very much for sharing African culture with us. I really enjoy your content. It's great to listen to you and see how much fun you have showing the culture of each African country, which for me is the best🥹❤️😃 Congratulations on this and other videos. I hope to see more videos from you soon showing the incredible culture of other African countries.
Creio que isso da língua também aplica-se a ideia de que os colonizadores não pensavam ir embora. E portanto tudo fizeram para que não houvesse línguas concorrentes ao português.
Hello Yara, Am from India, used to watch your videos.Your volgs are impressive. Can you make a video about foregin investment cons and pros. My heart is hurting to hear Portuguese killed our Tsonga/Shangaan language. Fortunately in SA the Tsonga/Xangana language is preserved, it will never die. SA had advanced the language. It is daily spoken, taught at schools and some universities. it is official, it is in all forms of literature e.g bible, school books, etc, it is now found in translation English to Tsonga Google, culture is very strong in music etc, and is growing day by day. But I also think Mozambican Shangaan people have got themselves to blame. They should have reversed this Portuguese damage coz Portuguese left the country almost 50 years ago. Introduce the language at school, encourage and teach new generations.
I agree they should take advice from that young president that took over Burkina Faso and change the nation language back to what it’s supposed to be. They just change the language from French to Hausa. Also the top 10 language in the world are mostly European languages which is horrible! 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ and Portuguese is one of the leading behind Spanish.
Levei a disciplina a sério desde a 6a classe.
Many of the flats in Maputo are run down - the Africans that moved in after 1976 didn’t have the money or the knowledge for the upkeep. It’s actually a tragedy as many white Mozambicans lost their homes. I’m surprised at how you’ve presented history - it’s not what you’ve been told and inter-generational wealth is hard to carry over for depreciating assets. As for the “big” houses - basically the spoils of the war - were taken over by the Numenklatura (communist elites)

Very true! I focused on the negative side, but this is definitely a positive - common language, more union! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Yara, what about cost of living ? How much per month for a one-bedroom apt or flat, equipped and furnished in a good middle-class area of Maputo ?
Cost of living is high. A furnished one bed won’t cost less than $1000 in a nice area 🥲 I find it cheaper to travel 😂
