Martinu was a clown and a genius! It is interesting he includes the piano in many of his works. There is an inevitable sense of humor in almost every note of many of his works. Behind the humor is a composer who is a genius who creates interesting textures and music that is profound! What a sense of melody! It is fun for the performers and the audience to hear the genius of this man. He must have found some sense of comfort in America during the turbulent time he came here. I need to read a biography of him because I respect him as a composer who is a genius and who loved what he was writing. While not a true American, he had an American spirit about him. I love Martinu!!!

I hardly ever comment on TH-cam, but I feel moved to here. Thank you so much for this superb rendition - you convey the piece perfectly. Just delightful. Made me smile!

The humorous section starting at 8:20 really ought to have an old-fashioned black-and-white cartoon from the mid 20th century set to it. :)

I believe he broke his E-string. You can hear a snap at 9:45 and subsequent passages he played them in the higher registers of the a-string
