George produced all of his solo music and all of Wham’s music. He was a rare talent. He not only wrote, produced, arranged, and played his own instruments. He definitely got his flowers and plus. Countless awards. Including a Royal coin with his image recently issued. In the UK he is considered one of their best artists of all time. He was admired by so many of his contemporaries. A singer doesn’t duet with Stevie, Elton, Aretha, MJ, Ray Charles, Smokey, Tony Bennett, Whitney on and on…. with out being on the same level. Watch some of his Doco and you will learn so much more about this man. A Different Story, Freedom and Wham! are great Doco. Please check out his live rendition of Long and Winding Road, better yet, Brother Can You Spare a Dime from Pavarotti and Friends. talk about a vocal power house…I saw him live a few times and he by far the best ever. I see a ton of concerts and nothing compared. His live vocals were better than studio.
Watch George on MTV unplugged from 1996, George's live vocals will amaze you...perfection 💜 The concert of hope from 1993...amazing 💜 A different corner live from the Parkinson show 1998...jaw dropping 💜
George wrote ,arranged, produced and even part engineered his music he was a workaholic at the time of Faith he was the biggest artist in the world and the female voice at the end of this record was George as well.
His best live performance, in my opinion, is Brother Can You Spare A Dime (cover)... at Pavarotti and Friends. The performance is epic and his voice is stunning and flawless!!!
I've loved this groovy tune for decades. It's timeless, right? Bro, if you're digging the bass line, that's Deon Estus. He was George's bassist for a long, long time. George tried to help Deon start his own music career and he had a hit you should check out. Deon Estus - Heaven Help Me. George does backing and you can definitely hear George's influence. You'd think it was a GM song if you hadn't seen the music video first. Check it out! Oh, and you asked about seeing him live. I saw him during his Faith tour. So good. For a great live performance watch him cover Freddie... search YT for "Queen & George Michael - Somebody to Love (HD Remastered)"
That was really fantastic. I came to appreciate George Michael much more after his death than when he was with us. He was very popular so I believe he got his flowers while he’s was alive. Nice analysis and breakdown as usual Chod.
Thanks Chod, George wrote, arranged and produced all of his music. Chod you done a few live performances, you did freedom 90 unplugged and one more try from the princess concert.
Yes Wilburn. George Michael did get his flowers when he was alive. Mariah Carey said on camera that she loved him and thought he was incredibly talented. Both Mariah and George wrote their own songs. Madonna gave George a massive hug when she presented George for album of the year for the Faith album that includes this song Hard Day. Whitney Houston AND Aretha Franklin loved George. In fact, Aretha loved him so much that she did a song with George called I Knew You Were Waiting For Me. Phil Collins was good friends with him. Phil and George were both from England. Paul McCartney loved George's songs and said he was gifted. Michael Jackson met George and told him how much he respected his music and George said to him that he was a fan of Michael for years. For most of the 1980s and 1990s millions in the USA and around the world became fans of George. George was the man.
Hey Wilburn to answer your question.... George Michael played Piano, Drums and Bass Guitar and he produced all his songs as well. He was the Bruno Mars of the 80s and 90s. He was the Real Deal. Here are other artists you will love reacting to. I only recommend good shit to you because I'm a piano composer too that grew up listening only to the best. 1. Alright by Jamiroquai. This song is the shit. A true badass club song by this white singer with soul. 2. Picking Up The Pieces (by Candy Dulfer). She is a Swedish Sax player that hits it out of the world with this version of this classic song with live band. 3. Just One Thing by Amarie. This song is for drum lovers with a R&B kick that drove everybody crazy when it came out. You will love it. 4. ROCK WITH YOU (MICHAEL JACKSON) cover by HSCC This video is live but sounds so crisp and perfect. 5. Slam from David Sanborn. This song is a straight up vibe instrumental by Jazz icon David Sanborn. it's from the 80s but GOOODDD. Wilburn I beg you to react to each of these songs. You will believe. Don't hear the songs before going on camera. Just trust me. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
This was the biggest selling album of 1988, it produced four #1 Billboard singles, and it won the Album of the Year Grammy. So yes, George got his flowers.
Hey Chod, I agree with you George Michael had some amazing vocal range. I thought I'd suggest another song, but this is a duet with He and Mary J. Blige singing together, if interested. "George Michael, Mary J. Blige - As (Official Videeo)" (by the channel: georgemichael) --This song is from Michael's Greatest Hits album called "Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael). This is originally a Steve Wonder song, Michael's is a cover. But I think he and Blige do a wonderful job. I love both version of this song. and as always, I enjoyed rocking with you, Chod. Thanks for sharing. peace out~
He was an incredible singer.. he has a duet with Aretha Franklin etc. I think his looks overshadowed his talent to a degree. All the other things he brought as a writer, his singing chops - people knew but again, his looks overshadowed some of that. I think he addresses it in the song Freedom (90) - the lyrics do talk about his feelings re the public persona vs his talent - managers trying to keep him in the boy band catagory etc.
Melissa Etheridge in an interview said the very same thing about George. She said he was such a physically gorgeous human being that people were so fixated on his appearance that they didn’t fully see the enormous talent this man possessed..
Well, I am afraid I will have to disagree with some that feel George got the respect he deserved. When you think he was 22-23 years old when he wrote, arranged, played instruments and produced the Faith album himself, no, I still don't think he gets the credit he deserves. Yes, everyone loved him after the release of Faith but he had never been more miserable. I think he changed as most good artists do...they mature and their music does as well. Unfortunately, other albums did not do as well as Faith but I thought they were all amazing and a natural progression. His live performances were the best I have ever seen from anyone and happily most of them are on TH-cam - but not many react to them. He was so much more than Careless Whisper and Faith. He wanted to be known for writing and singing really good songs but he wanted it in his terms. After his arrest in LA, America basically wrote him off, radio never played his songs, that is the truth and it wasn't right. For example, the recording of the Stevie Wonder song "As" he did with Mary J. Blige was supposed to be released in the US on her album, but her manager and record company refused to do so after his arrest. I don't think Mary was too happy about it. I know all the artist who worked with George loved him and many who didn't still thought he was brilliant. I do think since his death there has been more interest, and some channels like yours who are willing to go deeper than Careless Whisper and Faith understand just how good he really was. Just too bad he did not get the recognition he deserved while he was alive.
Check out Wings of Pegasus TH-cam channel. He is guitarist and vocal coach that breaks down George’s live vocals. It is fascinating and so so so good!!!!
He def got his flowers. He wrote and produced most if not all his own stuff. Didn't experience the 80s, but during the late 80s, I found out that at least in the USA George's Faith era basically rivaled MJ's Bad era in popularity and acclaim. I think him in the 90s distancing himself from the image he created with this Faith era, the whole Sony lawsuit ordeal, plus the "controversial" way he came out in the mid/late 90s... definitely did a number on his overall popularity, very unfortunately. He definitely get his flowers in this household tho. Forever.
You should listen to the song Fantasy by him. Really funky. I don't prefer the mix by Nile Rodgers from 2017, but the earlier original version from 1990. If you want to listen to live performances, then especially the MTV Unplugged concert from 1996, Concert Of Hope from 1993 or the Symphonica Tour.

George, fought hard to keep creative control over his work and creativity. That's what real artists do!

Love and miss him…legend George❤
"Killer/Papa was a rolling stone" LIVE is as EPIC as it gets. George in full force!
25Live is one of my favourite live gigs.
Worth a listen 💜🙏
His best live performance, in my opinion, is Brother Can You Spare A Dime (cover)... at Pavarotti and Friends. The performance is epic and his voice is stunning and flawless!!!
Holy shit, he is the best artist I've seen live. You're gonna be blown away

Live live live !!!!
George Michael live is even better! 🙂
Great reaction! A few live suggestions:
Concert for Hope
MTV Unplugged sessions
The Best was his Performance at Rock in Rio 1991, his Version of TONIGHT
Concert of Hope is immense and MTV unplugged and basically every live performance!
This album is almost 40 years old

I worked in a record store in 1988 - I can attest to this. LOL
Reached the level of Diamond.
biggest selling artist in the world 1988....singles album everything together..✌️
George used Deon Estus as his bassist since the wham days
To hear him live, review The Long And Winding Road - amazing. I have been a fan since 1984❤️
I love his version❤
HES UNBELIEVABLE LIVE!!!

He’s already reacted to that
George produced his tunes himself

Should review This Is Not Real Love - George Michael feat Mutya Buena live
Yes, i love this tune
You need some Motown!!!!- Stevie Wonder, Temps and some O'jays, Manhattans or Shalamar, some brothers!!! Real soul

The best insight I have ever read and I agree 1,000 percent
Agree 100%
💯
The remix is 💯💯💯

George & Elton John at Live Aid. Great performance

I love Fantasy and like you, I prefer the original 💜
No, George Michael never got flowers, still doesn't. He was one funky dude, so talented and his voice, amazing
When the Faith album came out George was the biggest artist in the world bigger than Prince and Michael Jackson
George was a fan of Prince, this song is more like Prince and not Michael Jakson.
remix is better...all vocals george Michael..🎤⬇️✌️
