Laksa is well spicy, rich with flavour and just divine. I make laksa and I can tell you had a 'budget' laksa. I am surprised by how good some of the packaged laksa is and one brand, Home Gourmet, is a good standby when you need a quick fix. Just follow the instructions on the back of the pack.

Just FYI, Singaporean food is NOT only Chinese food. If you got the chance, please try our native Singaporean Malay and Indian food. I swear it's much tastier and not pale or bland.

"I swear it's much tastier and not pale or bland."
Chinese food isn't pale or bland. Neither is it going to be much better for everyone. This is such a biased comment.

      I agree with you 💯.
There's much more tasty Malay and Indian dishes, than same boring, bland food on offer.

Hahaha the brand old chang kee doesn't even sell laksa in Singapore, though they are famous for their curry puffs. Gotta try laksa when you're in Singapore 😊

Laksa is supposed to have a good kick to it. You probably got a bad batch.

You tried laksa from old Chang kee instead of the authentic hawker laksa.

You really need to come to Singapore to try the food. Singaporean food overseas is no where compared to Singapore food in Singapore itself.

While Old chang Kee started selling tasty curry puffs decades ago, their laksa is a fairly new comer and is definitely not one of the best in Singapore.

Noooooo, the chicken broth/soup is for you to drink it not to pour into the rice. Old Chang Kee isn't everyone's favourite version of curry puffs and I don't think they sell Laksa in Singapore's stores. You are right to say that theirs is more like pie kinda pastry. Chili crab gravy is thicken by cooking with eggs.

old chang kee laksa??!!?? lol They only sell over fried dried junk food over here in Singapore lol. And that chicken rice... who serves the veggies with the rice in the same bowl??? it looks so horrible!!!

As a Singaporean, I avoided Meimei as I dont like the character of the owner and it's cost like 5 pounds for 2 slices of Kaya toast and costs like less than 2 pounds in Singapore. U can get Kaya at the Malaysia/Singapore store in Chinatown. The hainanese chicken rice in London is rubbish. I even tried the Rice guy in Canary Wharf and it is so average. I do like the Old Chang Kee curry puffs and taste authentic. So far, I haven't find a good Singaporean food in the UK. Even had the roti canai in Canary Wharf but I prefer the curry sauce back home than the thick curry sauce served. If you want authentic Singapore and Malaysia food, you have to come here to try. Pocket friendly and taste sooo good.

There is a mini mart Malaysian store in Chinatown or you can try the Asia supermarket Tien Tien. Sometimes they carry. But is like 5 pounds or something a bottle. There is also an online store selling Pandan Chiffon cake and other Singapore/ Malaysia pastries in London. You just need to google it.

Not caramel. It's called Kaya, made from pandan leaves and eggs.... if you're in Singapore or other South East Asian countries, there are many food/snacks made from or using pandan leaves.

Laksa is a seafood based stock with coconut milk and rempah (chilli and spice mixture) mixed with rice noodles, fish cake, beansprouts, prawns, beancurd skin and cockles. The one you had was probably amercanised to suit the palate of the american people.

Chilli crab is over-rated. It takes away to the true flavour of fresh crab.
