This is how it's done. The harmonies are still tight, That rock-a-billy guitar, and that Bonebreak back beat. Fuck, I've died and gone to punk rock heaven!
I saw them at the Russian Center in SF circa ‘81. I fell in love. Now I live in X-land, drive up and down the Boulevard blasting X…while the glittering stars fall all around….
At 14 in 83 I never thought I’d be around to see these bands still playing. The nursing homes are going to be weird full of 90 yo punks but it looks like we might make it
Almost 50 yrs!! 😳🥹😍Insane. I’m 57 and I’ve been in love with this band since the 7th grade. The very first 3 records I ever purchased with my own Daily Breeze paper-girl tips btw, 😝 was from a place called Recycled Records in Hermosa Beach. I bought Los Angeles, Sex Pistols Nevermind, and a 45 of Renegade by Styx.😝 I’m old! We old! We made it! Thank You for being so amazing for so damn long. X has ALWAYS marked the spot from the inside out for me. Thank you for your wild gifts & this long & wild ride! 🫡 😘✖️✖️✖️✖️🥳
I relate to this post. Only I bought my X in 81 high school, rode my bike to Music Market in Costa Mesa to buy it. Made my parents want to cry playing Los Angeles 1000 times. The best band ever!!!
A Great Choice to go to Fat Possum Records, a great label I used to work in independent distribution, great bands and honest Label, this release by X Will sell for a long time and new people will be discovering for the first time, the Brillance of John, Exene , Billy and D.J. When think Americana X is the first thing that comes to my mind, God Save Rock n Roll , this album might be the last chance, so I'm getting on a soap box and shouting out loud and yes preaching, I know everyone here is gonna do the same thing. Peace, Love & X
I remember when old VHS tapes of Decline of Western Civ were passed around like sacred objects. Of all the acts in that movie, i still think X holds up the best. Alphabetland and Goodbye Year, Goodbye may have actually saved my life during Covid. So glad they made this video for us as they hang up their hats on a great career P.S. Anyone else catch Old Punks A Focus Group with Fred Armisen? Exene, the group seems to agree is the most punk.
That was fucking beautiful! It was perfect. It naturally flowed like an X song. Not X trying to be new, different, black white whatever. It was X being X and it was perfect. You have no idea how happy that makes me. I will love X forever.
Very few bands, especially Punk, have all of their original members playing, at this point in time. Been thru changes, but still together and sounding great! Looking forward to seeing them for the 5th time, going back to '83(New World tour).🤠
If there was ever a band who has never lost it, it's X. This whole album stands up comfortably to the early ones and you can't say that about many bands 40+ years on.
Wow! Saw you live when I was 18 years old. I am watching this video. X has not lost that raw, unique, energetic sound! I am 60 years old now. Can't wait to see u live again! 🖤🖤🖤
Absolutely love this song. It's truly meaningful to me, " you turned around, a lowly state of grace. you stood your ground, a smile on your face." Tears. There is no better band that X.
X -- WHAT A GIFT !!!! Thanks for the " all YALL do"!!! I have enjoyable memories through the days... a NC boy gone new england( 37 years up there - coastal MASSACHUSETTS... dishwasher at a b&b called India house.... my homemade cassette(90 min.) with under the big black sun on one side was the " top pick in that deck ... crew LOVED IT!!!!) THANKS X -- a mainstay to this day in my selecting!!!!
I didn't think it was possible for me to love X more than I already did, but now I do. This is perfect, and it's even too short so I'll always want to hear it again. Genius. Gracious thanks to my four favorite artful beings.
46 yrs later, I still love this band and members. Legends in my native city of Los Angeles. DJ played in many great and very unique LA bands, The Eyes and Flesh Eaters and so did John. Exene ripped it up in Original Sinners and Billy Zoom plays the guitar like its as easy as walking. Im a Gretsch biased man so you know.
WOWEE ! What a great song, in the BEST tradition.... Been a true believer of you guys - a diciple, of sorts since way back in the Starwood nights, last time I saw you face to face was the filming of the Fourth of July video at ROXY, I believe ? Well now I'm "living " here in Fort Worth, so i''ll see you in October in Dallas ! LUV LAMF
After all these years and the sound is still amazing. I have been a huge fan since the early 80's when a friend on the bus to school introduced me to Los Angeles. That album literally changed my life!!
I grew up with "Los Angeles" and "Wild Gift" but bands that come back 40 years later the music is never as good it was the first time around but it's nice that they can still keep going.
just bought The Decline of Western Civilization on iTunes for a fiver ... At first I was more fascinated by the era and vibe than the music, till X's feature came up...Was blown away by the raw, inspired musicality. New X fan for life.
@@davidt7085 And John was so awesome to hang in the lobby for so long and chat with fans, and take pics, sign stuff, etc. He is such a humble and nice guy.
@@88pjtink I wanted to check that out and get a t shirt from John , but didn't want to loose my spot for the furs. Seeing X in Sept in Albuquerque, hopefully meet him then , at least get a shirt. Cheers buddy .
I was the crazy blonde at the front having the best time at your Boise show. You guys sounded SO GREAT and I know you won't see this but if someday you happen to. Thank you for all the years of music, you are truly the soundtrack to my life!! My daughter's name is Ruby so I kinda just LOVE THIS SONG TOO
So smooth. Great lyrics. Great all the OGs are still there. 17 yr old me had the "Los Angeles" lp as one of his 1st punk records. It was edgy then and they still have one 40+ years later.
Whoa! Great stuff as always! My copy of Smoke and Fiction is coming in the mail today!!!! Can't wait! Also can't wait til September when we see X in Derry NH.
I tbink of all bands ive seen live in my life. X, I have probably seen the most. So great to hear a new song, I loved the last album. Awesome they have made some new music….Dont know why they stopped for so long…🖤
Wish I could see you on this last tour, but you still sound fantastic. I’m definitely going to have the new record on heavy rotation. Good luck and health to all of you.

After almost 45 years of listening to X, and seeing a handful of their shows, I'd like to say Thanks to the Band. I hope you read this comment.
What Nancoman said. Precisely.

In the George Strait movie Pure Country John Doe was his drummer friend.
Imagine being a cop and pulling over a guy who has the name John Doe? LoL
One of the best sounds in the world is the two of them singing together
But John is dead
