I came across your video and then ordered the magazine boards. They arrived today and I organized over 40 yards of fabric. It is amazing how little space the fabric takes up, when it is on these boards.

Instead of spending a lot of money on magazine boards, I cut out a piece of foamcore board in the size I want, and wrap my fabric around it, then pull the board out while holding the fabric in place. It works beautifully! If there is less than a yard of fabric, I can then fold it over one more time to make a smaller bundle or leave the large bundle the way it comes off the board. I love how it looks in my containers! The nice thing about doing it this way (besides saving $$) is that I can cut the foamcore to any size depending on the containers!

The comic book boards come in packs of 100 for usually under $15 US.
That's roughly 6 cents a board or less. I found them for under $14 US. (Both on Amazon with free shipping on Prime)

I love this envelope idea. I was using low tack Avery name tags to stick in the middle and it held without any sticky residue when removed. I also wrote the date of purchase, the yardages amount and because I'm also a sewer I stuffed" any notions, buttons, zippers, piping etc in the package as well. Then everything was ready to grab 'n go. I think I will start enveloping all my fabrics from now on but keep the labels so I know at a glance how much fabric is available. Thank you for such an enlightening video.

"Well Done!" from the Great State of Texas. We all have been given a stick with the straight pin, so this works very well for those of us who use our fair share of fabric. I am in the middle of a muddle right now, making my studio more efficient, so this is timely indeed! TFS.

I just ordered a 100 piece pack of magazine boards on Amazon because I had seen them used to store fabric on another TH-cam video. I was all set to either secure the ends of the fabric either using pins or the plastic covered paperclips until I saw the envelope-style finish you demonstrated. I think with a little practice that's what I'd prefer to do. Thank you very much for your video. It was very straight forward and it was just what I needed. I look forward to seeing more of your videos since this is the first one I've seen from you.

Why aren't people boycotting Amazon? No one pays attention to what that company is doing to destroy other companies. I wouldn't spend a penny on Amazon when there are so many places worthy of our business.

I use the sheet music board (9 x 12) so I have a bit sticking up and I use sticky labels and list how much fabric I have on the board, at a glance. I also place the selvage out, so if I want to quickly take a look for buying more, I don't have to unroll the fabric.

I measured all my quilt backs and put a tab of masking tape little tab with size w x l and rubber band them in rolls in a tub. Saves me lots of time.
I did use that diagonal cut trick when it was 3 inches too narrow and about a foot too long. Just adjust the 2 triangles and sew diagonals back together. Magic.

Also, just a quick tip as well, the back of 8 1/2 X 11 note pads work great for this so when you have finished a pad don't thro out the back. Just cut off the tôp where the paper was attached and throw them in a drawer. Then you can cut them down for your scraps too.

But eventually the acid from cardboard will damage fabric that it contacts and you might not realize it until your quilts hits sun damages. Can alter colors or fade or reds turn to.browns. chemical and light damage issues....not fun. I stored fabric in cardboard boxes and made 55 quilts for family in 1992. Fabric only in boxes max of 5 years. Didn't bother polyester or poly cotton but cotton did not last as long...shredded

Same as me, can't leave pins in, humid hot climate. So I use elastic too and just sew it flat and no marks, as long as it's the white stuff as I used thick rubber bands and I had to throw most of it away. But love the folding job xx

For small amounts of fabric, I just put them in file folders (the hanging kind) then use banker's boxes (they are the perfect size for hanging folders) for storage. Not as visible as your solution, but it works for me. Still looking for a better solution for large yardage pieces. Many of the ideas from other commenters will be included in my storage system as they are brilliant.

The last one is pretty much how they do it at fabric stores. I store them on an open shelf set back a bit, by color, so I can enjoy looking at them! Precuts get stored in fabric containers with similar kinds together, i.e., all layer cakes, all charm packs, etc.

I took all my odd scraps and chopped them into squares and other shapes on accuquilt. I then sorted them into dark flowers, light flowers, small boy, small girl, teen, patriotic, modern and into ziplocks by type. I sewed 18 quilt tops in 2 months from all these scraps that had been a clutter. It weighed more than a sack of dirt as just tops. I still have about 10 more to do. I have already completed 14 of them and gave them away but kept one. It was first one I quilted with rulers...and light flowers. Must be some reason we get all those flowers.

OMG!! I have 3 dressers, about 5 boxes, 2 baskets and a few bins of fabric stashed around my house. From the smallest pieces for crumb quilts to yardage... I definitely need a better storage system than I am currently using - the stuff and cram method. Where on earth do I start? Anybody want to spend a week helping me fondle/fold/file fabric :-)Thanks for the inspiration.

Most comic books boards are a thin card board, or a card stock. They are acid free which is what also makes them good for fabric. There is a company that makes a corrugated plastic one approx this size for fabric storage. I dont remember the name off the top of my head, but you could find them on amazon.
