I hope conservationists do research and try to keep their habitat out of human destruction. So we can see and hear these birds and our next generations also.

Currently, Senegal Parrots are doing OK in the extinction process. However, so many other beautiful creatures are in danger. I worry about gray-cheeked parakeets in Ecuador who are losing their habitat. So sad.

    • @FacesintheStone
      @FacesintheStone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I would agree, but you pose a complicated statement. Being that the pet trade has endangered parrots across the globe many breeds would be extinct if not for captive breeding and parrot husbandry. A parrot that was bred in captivity cannot be let out into the wild so what choice do owners have but to try to provide the best environment and living situation for the animal itself? As parrot lovers I’m sure we would rather all parrots be out in the wild, however our ancestors did not allow that so we are stuck in this situation. Of course new laws and penalties for taking parents out of the wild have been implemented it is still a problem in undeveloped parts of the world. Advocacy for wild parrots and protection from poaching, and making the lives of pet parrots the best we can is key; because there’s no way we can put them back. Does that make sense?

I wrote to you before. Thank you for other videos and this is really interesting to my Senegal parrot. He really hears the birds sounds and responds to them. With out intruding, I suggest sounds or breeding and especially female Senegal parrots. Just a note, I am a community college English teacher and currently have a student from Senegal. We talk about these birds, but two days ago, we had an earthquake. He was very surprised, and confused. We told him this was an earthquake, and he said this was the first time he had ever felt this. Earthquakes are no fun, but first time for everything. Luckily it was nothing. Would love to see the mating ritual of Senegal parrots. Mine everyday is trying to get me to enter his blanket nest he has made. Obviously I can't, but feel so bad he bonds tome as a mate. Wish I could bring him back to Africa and let him mate, but we know that is not possible. Sad.

That's great! Thanks for telling me about that. Mine also like it and I made a playlist with this vide repeating many times so it plays for them for a few hours. It works for Coco and Fifi!

I have two male red headed amazons that love the video - they keep saying "YEP YEP" which I take it to be approval, they are both 17 years old and I have had them since 2009 when the family that adopted them gave them to me. They were 4 when I got them

    • @DiscoverPARROTS

Wow, that's interesting! Amazons are neo-tropical. birds and should respond best to sounds recorded in S and Central America. I hope to record some stuff in Costa Rica, but happy to hear that my African sounds make your birds happy! Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks, Susan! I'm so happy to hear that your parrot likes this video. I recently made a playlist with this video 20-something times over and let it play on my TV to entertain my two senegals. They have each other but still it's nice having these sounds in the room. Yours, Florin

Beautiful video and very relaxing. As for the experiment, my Senegal was content and relaxed as soon as the sounds started. She was grooming herself and imitating the calling sounds. However, as soon as she saw the Senegals on the tv, she was a bit afraid and wanted to get closer to me. She still was speechless and very curious. Bravo 👏

Hi Silvia, thanks for your feedback! I wish I had recordings of all companion parrot species so I could make more videos. But I think that your conure would benefit from listening to videos recorded in S America. try a few and see how your conure reacts. Best wishes!

I'm so happy to hear that your Senegal parrots enjoy this video! Thanks for letting me know. I don't get much feedback on this video, as sennies are far less common than budgies as companions. I hope I can make better videos for parrots. I'm going to record again next week in Africa. Let's hope I can bring back some good images and sounds! Best wishes, Florin

My Illiger Macaw was only slightly interested when she saw other birds. Not in the least interested walking through the forest or scenery. Watching prey birds in the sky only stresses out birds. You had some in the beginning. Thank you.

Many thanks for your feedback, Sabrina. Sorry for missing your message. That's interesting, as Senegal parrots were totally undisturbed by flying kites and vultures in the area. I actually have a photo of the senegals with a black kite in the background. The fact is that these birds don't hunt parrots, they are mostly scavengers. Things are totally different with hawks and falcons. I guess they would trigger a panic in parrots, but they didn't show up while I was filming.

This is great information and Biki is enjoying it too, if head bobbing, clicking, and toe snapping are any indication! I have been trying to learn more about the natural habitat of Poicephalus senegalus, it seems that practical information is sparse? You have filled in many gaps already, keep it up please.

Thanks, Michael! I plan on going back to The Gambia next year to film in more remote areas. It seems that Senegals are the most common species of the three in the country. I'm also keen on recording in quieter places, to get better audio and video for the benefit of our parrots. It all takes time! best wishes, Florin

My Senegal, Henry, seems to like these sounds. There are 2 places in the video where a certain bird sets up an alarm, and Henry instantly alerts. He seems to recognize it, but, I don't think that's likely.

We used to put this on for our parrots and watch it all the way through without interruption. Now TH-cam forces LONG commercials every 6 minutes. We have to keep going back upstairs to click skip or the birds shriek. Our birds think that TH-cam sucks because of it.

I'm sorry about the ads, but Google runs them even on videos with no monetization. If you play the playlist rather than a single video, and don't click skip the algorithm will recognize that nobody is watching and stop playing ads. Best wishes, Florin
