You know Dave actually and truly wants to teach us all music when you hear him say "and hopefully you'll never have to watch another one of my TH-cam videos." That there is a true legend.
This video is basically helping us learn by ourselves in which we wouldn’t need Dave’s videos anymore. That just shows how dedicated Dave is to teaching us all how to become the best guitarist we can be! And I applaud you for that!
In China we say “It’s always better to teach someone fishing rather than offering them fish” and that’s exactly what Dave has been doing. Thank you legend!
I’m in a weird area where I like the “ just feel it out man” style but I also am fascinated by the technical and mathematical way music works approach. There’s such a thing as getting really good at doing something bad or wrong. Find what your brain does best but also train harder what it struggles with. Trial and error
The amount of work Dave does for free to help the guitar community is outstanding, I wish I could take his course for no other reason than just to support him
@@GuitarZero2Hero Please do more videos like this, for example music theory but not the basics because everyone talks about the basics. You are so good at explaining to it’s actually fun to learn. I’m doing a music theory course at the moment and it’s just so boring would love you to explain how cords come about and how songs change cord structure when entering the chorus or bridge. Because I just don’t understand :)
Spent a year learning songs off your tutorials. Then figured this isn’t sustainable to rely on tabs all the time, I need to learn to play by ear and ended up right back here. You sir are a legend!
"Hopefully you'll never have to watch my videos again becauses you'll be able to play songs by ear" you're the kindest most thoughtful youtuber i've ever seen and this is the first video i've ever seen from you so you just made a very great impression for me thank u so much for that useful video.
Your teaching style is clear and concise. No time-wasting fluff; not too fast to follow. I stumbled upon this…and subscribed right away. I want more, more, more! Thanks so much for producing these very helpful lessons.
i used to be scared by his tutorial when i was a beginner i think he's technique was hard BUT now all im watching are his videos!!! He is really good in teaching guitar songs but a bit beyond for beginners (only in my opinion) i do recommend his videos!!! thanks alot!
Dave, you’re the first big TH-camr I know that still likes a lot of his viewers’ comments. You liked and even replied a while ago lol. I respect you so much more because of that. You seem like a good person- humble. Wish you the best and thank you for all your work. Love the way you teach. Good luck and hope you’re always well.
I was looking for any method because I can't figure it out myself and this were one of first videos that showed up, I immediately knew that it'll be helpful
Apparently I've been training my ears for a while, I love playing along with the vocals! I have so much trouble figuring out chord progressions though, so thank you so much for this guide!
I had no idea how to even approach this and it totally makes sense with your explanation. You are a wizard. This and internalizing the fret board video. Been playing guitar for a few years and never had a clue, but with your explanation it just clicked
Loved this! I've been playing the guitar for over 7 years and really loved figuring out the vocal melodies, but I never really understood how to easily pick up the chords by ear. Thanks a lot Dave! I think I found myself a new hobby! 😄 The best guitar teacher on TH-cam! 🤓🙌🏽
Thanks Dave. You've given very clear understanding on fundamentals of ear training - interesting. Thanks for your dedication to teaching; an outstanding work for budding guitarists. Cheers!
Amazing tutorial! Mind blown! I was just asked by my father to figure out chord progressions of the songs he likes and thought it would take me years to be able to do that. But after watching this, I am really inspired that maybe I would be able to learn this skill in a relatively short amount of time if I really put in an effort. Thank you so much! Really helpful and inspiring!!
I actually stumbled into this method intuitively once I figured out that the bass player of the song is usually playing the root note of a chord. Really good tool not only for figuring out songs, but also for composing, because you can use the bass notes as the skeleton for your chord progs
no, this is just magic! I can't believe it was that easy😭 i was super overwhelmed at first but now thanks to this video i feel like i can do anything !
I guess an A for the first note and I’m pretty damn proud of myself 😂 I used to play guitar, dabbled in piano, and I always sucked at reading sheet music but now in my 20s I’m going back to it all and really trying to nail sheet music, music theory, and being able to just ear and know this time around 🙌🏼
Just wanna say thanks for the course. I have had my guitar away for like 5 years because I was not happy about not being able to play what I hear. I'm making small progress but it's super fun!
One of the most informative videos I’ve watched because it doesn’t just teach you how to play a song but rather many songs or really any song you want.
Dave. You are literally the best teacher. I've learned so much from you. Thank you man! And thank you for this video. I really needed it. Thanks again 💪💯
I started yesterday I’ve learned 7 chords and little bit of fly me to the moon. What should I do next? And how long did it take you to start getting good at learning by ear?
The answers you get, depend upon the questions you ask. Dave, thank you so much for teaching us the answers we ponder in our music journey!!! I value your videos so much.
The fact that I learned more about guitar in this 12 minute video than I have from anywhere else in the past two years makes this my favorite part of the video. Subbed 😎
Dude! (btw sorry for commenting so much on your videos lol) I just wanna say that THANK YOU ! all the things you provide for FREE on your vids (for example the lyrics and chords in song tutorials which help a lot) just thanks, man!
I just finished a beginner's course. I think my challenge could have been my expected approach from learning another instrument or instruments years ago. So what he is saying and/or confirming is that it helps for guitar players to learn all of the chords first, then the playing of individual strings later, right? If so, then it all makes sense why every beginner's lesson that I've checked out will have individuals learning the name of the keys first. Then play keys together as chords, right? So I just need to continue to practice and memorize the chords for now. A common theme in all of these lessons that I see us someone teaching the E, A, D, chords first. From there, the chords varies with each teacher, yet all or most of the chords are eventually taught. Yet I think I got it. I'm inspired to keep practicing and memorizing the chords.
Love that trial and error/empirical approach (my way for lots of things). I kind of figured that out when I was a kid playing guitar but wasn't sure I was doing the right thing and how to exactly do it. Too bad the internet and TH-cam didn't exist at the time. Great to see that today!! Thanks Dave. (BTW... I love your guitars, they're all totally beautiful and sound like perfection!)
My method is first figure it out the vocals which I think is easier than figure it out the power chords. Then with the vocals I identify the key, this can fail but most times it works . Then with the key I identify the tonic chord, which is the chord that sounds good to end the song. And on base of that I get the other chords.
Dude this guy is one of the sweetest, most chill and humble people I’ve ever seen. Also, quick question, will you be releasing any new merch soon? Just a little curious lol
