I left the ICOC soon after leading a “Boundaries” group at the ICOC. That plus the Henry Kriete letter and Mike Leatherwood’s letter helped me to see that I was not alone in my doubts about the church. Mike helped me as my therapist at the time when the church shamed me for speaking up to my disciple partner who went back to the leadership and they in turn used that to shame me from the pulpit during a mid week service. I asked God to show me if he wanted me to stay and “submit” or leave. The Holy Spirit lead me out that was over 22 years ago. Great to hear this conversation. This gives me hope for the future…. I’m still looking for “church” trust is still something that does not come easy. I’ve had 3 “spiritual directors” in a church that I can’t be part of anymore for pushing their doctrine on me to get me to follow their “rules”. It’s not easy to find a church that I can be a part of.
